Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Biological quality of drilled well water around the shrimp paste production place in Jor Village, East Lombok District

This study aimed to determine the quality of dug well water around the shrimp paste production site in Jor Hamlet, Jor Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency. The type of research used is an experiment with two parameters based on Minister of Health Regulation Number 32 of 2017, namely Biological Parameters, including Coliform and Escherichia coli. The sampling points in this study consisted of three water sampling points from residents' dug wells with two repetitions of sampling in Jor Hamlet, Jor Village, East Lombok Regency, and with consideration of sampling points based on the distance of the dug well to the location of making shrimp paste in below 10 meters and the shrimp paste production site does not have a good wastewater disposal system. Water quality around the shrimp paste production site in Jor Hamlet, Jor Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency, several parameters do not meet the requirements based on Minister of Health Regulation Number 32 of 2017 concerning Environmental Health Quality Standards and Water Health Requirements for Sanitation Hygiene, Swimming Pools, Solus Per Aqua, and Public Baths, namely Coliform Parameters, samples at sampling points A and B exceed the Quality Standard, namely 230 in both repetitions, while the Maximum Quality Standard is 50 MPN/100 ml. The Escherichia coli Parameters for all samples at all sampling points meet the Quality Standards, namely 0 MPN/100 ml samples, or there may not be Escherichia coli in clean water intended for Sanitary Hygiene. The highest research results for Coliform and Escherichia coli parameters were high at several points due to the distance between the well and the shrimp paste production site, which was very close, and the shrimp paste production site did not yet have a good wastewater disposal system

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Chlorine content analysis on white rice at the Pagesangan Market, Mataram City

In Indonesia, rice is a staple food consumed daily. The high purchasing power of the public for good quality rice makes this a reason for producers to add dangerous bleaching agents such as chlorine to improve the physical quality of the rice they sell. The use of unclear bleaching agents on rice that do not meet the requirements for permitted additives in food and whose concentrations exceed the threshold limits is dangerous for human health. This research aims to determine the presence of chlorine in white rice sold at the Pagesangan market. The methods used are qualitative and quantitative. Three of the five rice samples tested at the Mataram STTL Laboratory tested positive for chlorine. Chlorine levels in rice samples, sample C, were 367.4 mg/L, sample D was 275.1 mg/L, and sample E was 93.4 mg/L

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Analysis of Residual Free Chlorine Content in Rinjani Waterpark Swimming Pool Water, East Lombok District

Water is the most essential component in daily life. One of its uses is as water in swimming pools. A swimming pool is a public place and facility in the form of a pool building used for swimming. The water used in swimming pools must have a quality that complies with the quality standards determined for the water. One of the parameters required in PERMENKES Nomor 2 Tahun 2023 is the remaining free chlorine. This research aims to analyze the residual free chlorine content in Rinjani Waterpark swimming pool water, where it is known from the results of preliminary studies that Rinjani Waterpark uses chlorine as a disinfectant to kill bacteria in the water and purify the pool water. There were several complaints from swimming pool visitors, such as eye irritation and itchy skin after swimming in that swimming pool, so further analysis was needed. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The samples used in this research were 4 samples. The sampling technique uses total sampling. Testing was carried out at the STTL Mataram laboratory to see the free chlorine content in water samples using Mohr's Argentometry method. After conducting the research, the results were obtained that the samples that did not meet the requirements were samples with codes P1 M=2.3 mg/L, P3 M=1.77 mg/L, P4 M=2.3 mg/L, and P3 A = 0 mg/L. Visitors who want to visit the Rinjani Waterpark swimming pool are expected to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as swimming goggles to avoid the impact of chlorine levels that are too high in the water. Swimming pool managers should pay attention to the chlorine dosage in the water so that it does not cause side effects to visitors

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
