Connecting Theory and Practice in LIS: The Training Model of the Information Resource Centers

The traditional LIS education is also essential as it provides the foundation for our profession. Also, the LIS theory explores the history and evolution of the librarianship in different era. The library science educators do review the LIS courses from time to time, because it isn’t one time job. As the nature of information sources changes, the sophistication of information technology advances, and the quantity of knowledge explodes; the job market of librarians itself demands revision and expansion in the curricula of the LIS. Even if the curriculum of an LIS school is up to the mark, the institution is required to train its new information professionals. Every type of library (i.e. public, academic, or special etc.) has to impart a proper training to its employees for better performance and productivity. At the same time, it is true that not all the libraries or their parent institutions can afford the expensive and sophisticated training model of the IRCs. However, if they put the professional training on priority and spend some resources and time on it, they can get best out of their employees. One way is to arrange the in-house training sessions at their libraries. Moreover, the libraries of the same kind or in the same region can coordinate training on different LIS modules. The Internet is itself a good learning, teaching and training tool. The information professional can improve the professional skills through reading the professional literature, becoming a member of professional association, and consulting the value added professional websites

INDIAN ENGAGEMENT WITH TALIBAN-LED AFGHANISTAN AND IMPLICATIONS FOR PAKISTAN

Establishing a liberal government in post-Taliban Afghanistan allowed India to fulfil its foreign policy goal, i.e., investment in Afghanistan to acquire leverage for its anti-Pakistan agenda. However, the twenty-year war ended with the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, resulting in the Taliban’s rise to power, diminishing Indian influence and reversion of its interests. India halted its investment and diplomatic engagement with the Taliban government due to its previous position, which led India to compromise on its strategic interests outlined in the presence of US forces. To safeguard its strategic interests, India has resumed its diplomatic and economic engagement with the Taliban government at a critical time when other regional states are analysing the US’ future course of action towards the war-torn country. Therefore, this paper examines how India evaluates the newly structured regional environment while finding a new role in Afghanistan. It also analyses the implications of India-Afghanistan re-engagement for Pakistan.   Bibliography Entry Farooq, Muhammad. 2022. US’ TAIWAN STRATEGY: AN INSTRUMENT TO CONTAIN CHINA

The issue of Taiwan has become a major point of contention between the US and China, with visits by US officials resulting in strong criticism from China and military escalation in the region. Experts are concerned that a conflict between these two powers in the Asia-Pacific region could endanger global peace and stability, especially given the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. China maintains its claim over Taiwan under the \u27One China Policy,’ considering it a lost province and advocating for its unification with the mainland. While recognising Taiwan as part of China under this policy, the US engages in diplomatic and military activities with Taiwan, which China considers interference in its internal affairs. In the post-Cold War era, the US adopted an ambiguous policy towards Taiwan as part of its containment strategy against China. Therefore, the US seeks to slow China\u27s perpetual growth by promising enhanced defence for Taiwan. Recent US official visits to Taiwan reflect provocative measures in line with this strategy. This paper analyses the US\u27 Taiwan policy as a containment instrument against China, recent measures adopted by the US administration to provoke China, Taiwan\u27s strategic significance, and the US\u27 long-standing commitment to Taiwan\u27s security as essential for maintaining its leadership role in international affairs.   Bibliography Entry Farooq, Muhammad. 2023. Sustainability, sustainable agriculture, and the environment

    No full text
Sustainability has always been the paradigm of sustainable agriculture that has played and still plays a decisive role in the conversion of unsustainable management models and practices, while at the same time responding to the needs of a living planet despite the constant growth of the population. For these ambitious goals, the challenges of equity and efficiency as fundamental components must also aim to reduce the gap for healthy eating in order to live in a healthier environment. Therefore, Sustainability, Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment, represent the vertices of a strictly interconnected system on which the progress acquired has shown widespread criticalities at a global level, in particular in the translation from theoretical principles to the practices of application, monitoring and evaluation of results. The impact of climate change for which the Sustainability of Agriculture represents an important part of the solutions available in the short and medium term must be taken into high consideration on these aspects. In this perspective, the advanced study and educational program in the continuous search for innovations to be transferred to direct operators of Agriculture appear as the most important need on which to turn the attention of technical and political decision-makers, identifying coordinated multidisciplinary actions and multistakeholder approaches to support of environmental compliance programs and measures

Supply Chain Operations Management in Pandemics: A State-of-the-Art Review Inspired by COVID-19

Pandemics cause chaotic situations in supply chains (SC) around the globe, which can lead towards survivability challenges. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that has severely affected global business dynamics. Similar vulnerabilities have been caused by other outbreaks in the past. In these terms, prevention strategies against propagating disruptions require vigilant goal conceptualization and roadmaps. In this respect, there is a need to explore supply chain operation management strategies to overcome the challenges that emerge due to COVID-19-like situations. Therefore, this review is aimed at exploring such challenges and developing strategies for sustainability, and viability perspectives for SCs, through a structured literature review (SLR) approach. Moreover, this study investigated the impacts of previous epidemic outbreaks on SCs, to identify the research objectives, methodological approaches, and implications for SCs. The study also explored the impacts of epidemic outbreaks on the business environment, in terms of effective resource allocation, supply and demand disruptions, and transportation network optimization, through operations management techniques. Furthermore, this article structured a framework that emphasizes the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies, resilience strategies, and sustainability to overcome SC challenges during pandemics. Finally, future research avenues were identified by including a research agenda for experts and practitioners to develop new pathways to get out of the crisis

Detection and Characterization of Food Intake by Wearable Sensors

    No full text
Food intake provides energy and nutrients to sustain human life. Studying the ingestive behavior of individuals is of particular interest in understanding and treatment of medical conditions strongly associated with food intakes, such as obesity and eating disorders. Traditionally, ingestive behavior in humans has been assessed through self-monitoring of food intake. However, this approach is inaccurate, time-consuming, and suffers from the observation and misreporting effects. Wearable sensors present a compelling alternative to overcome the limitations of self-reporting methods. These sensors can potentially provide more objective measurements of food intake by monitoring physiological processes related to one or more stages of the food consumption process: hand-to-mouth gestures, bites, chewing, or swallowing. Specialized signal processing and pattern recognition methodologies use the sensor data to automatically detect and characterize each intake episode. This chapter presents a review of the state of the art of wearable sensors and methodologies proposed for monitoring ingestive behavior in humans.Fil: Fontana, Juan Manuel. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
