How can transforming growth factor beta be targeted usefully to combat liver fibrosis
Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-beta 1) plays a pivotal role in tissue fibrogenesis. Understanding the factors that control resolution of fibrosis is critical to devising means to combat clinical fibrosis. Future challenges would include designing ways to block the fibrosis-specific actions of TGF-beta.Blockade of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) activity in vivo in animal models has proven to be an effective means of inhibiting the fibrotic response to injury in various organs. Similarly, transgenic animals in which TGF-beta 1 expression is artificially enhanced show marked spontaneous fibrosis or increased fibrotic response to injury. TGF-beta is known to effect fibroplasias, not only by its well known action of increasing extracellular matrix synthesis but also by coordinately regulating key proteins which mediate connective tissue homeostasis. This includes down-regulation of interstitial collagenase and other matrix metalloproteinases and up-regulation of antiproteases such as tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase I and plasminogen activator inhibitor. Whilst inhibition of TGF-beta activity appears to be well tolerated in rodents over several weeks, the ultimately lethal phenotype of TGF-beta 1 knockout mice warns us that this pluripotent cytokine is essential for normal health. Therefore, downstream pathways activated by TGF-beta, which might be specific for its fibrotic effects, might be more useful targets for human fibrotic disease therapy. For example, the TGF-beta response protein connective tissue growth factor may be a good target for antifibrotics but definitive evidence awaits development of suitable genetically modified animal models and specific inhibitors

[[alternative]]The Reaserch of the Role and Function in Administrative Corporation of the National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center
[[abstract]]In 1975, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall was established as the first national performing arts center in memory of the former president Chang Kai-Shek. However, this organization had not been granted a decided status because of the limitation of the administration organization system and lots of laws until the year of 1992 when it was officially named National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center. Afterward, its system was assessed many times in order to go with the international trend and domestic opinion; then the Administrative Corporation was passed by the Executive Yuan at the Third Reading on January 9, 2004. Through this system, the only international performing arts center in Taiwan was reformed and its long-term problem of uncertain status was also solved on March 1, 2004.
In this research, I want to probe into the different roles and functions before and after the Administrative Corporation in National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center through literature analysis and deep interview. Besides, I hope to collect opinions and advices from related arts groups, scholars and experts in order to get the best conclusion and suggestion.
By literature analysis and deep interview, I find National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center has more different roles after the Administrative Corporation, but it is still not fully- functioned, especially as a broker to business and government. In the part of Future Envision, non-governmental performing arts groups have great expectations to National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center. In sum, non-governmental performing arts groups approve Administrative Corporation of National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center, and they think there are gap between the former and later roles of National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy for nonampullary duodenal lesions: indications and results
PD carries a high mortality and morbidity, especially for duodenal lesions. We recommend a careful endoscopic review after the index case with a high-definition optical evaluation of duodenal lesions. This, in addition to an experienced histological assessment of the index biopsy material, forms an essential prerequisite in aiding the multidisciplinary team in the decision-making process with respect to triage of these lesions to conservative management, surveillance, endoscopic resection or finally surgical resection
Romance of the stone: cultural interpretationof Yan Yuen Shek (Lover's rock)
This dissertation sheds light on the cultural significance of Yan Yuen Shek, a non man-made feature, and its relationship with the folk worship culture. Under the influence of prevailing legends probably fabricated after war, Yan Yuen Shek is often misunderstood as a contemporary cultural highlight. Actually, its cultural history could be traced back to the early colonial period as possible. Like other temples in the neighborhood, it had passed through different stages of temple development before it is incorporated into the present Lover’s Stone Garden. Based on the above, the author has some observations. First, folk worship could be manifested in various forms under different circumstances. The evolution from primitive, simple forms to extensive, elaborated forms would not be a linear path but with drawbacks at intervals. Conservationists should look beyond temples and pay equal attention to other less apparent objects. Second, the Lover’s Stone Garden is quite successful to upkeep the setting of Yan Yuen Shek as it was in 1970s but the regulations and planning intention behind the garden is not beneficial to sustain the intangible elements of Yan Yuen Shek, setting some possible constraints to its further enhancement.published_or_final_versionConservationMasterMaster of Science in Conservatio
The Stolen Button
The Stolen Button is a fully illustrated 48-page book intended for a young teenage audience. It represents multicultural stories in an Australian landscape and contains dark themes in an imaginative space portraying an exotic other, a wilderness, and a place to face demons, spirits, and foes. Referencing the Silk Road as an historical location and cultural melting point where East meets West, the book mimics a hybrid garden of Chinese stories from childhood memories of the author mixed with illustrative elements from the illustrator’s Persian painting background. The format inventively mixes a large picture-book style usually found in pre-reader texts, with sophisticated themes, story, and language relevant to an advanced reader to question notions of coming-of-age, belonging and cultural identity. Created using a hybrid style of traditional ink and watercolour used in ancient Chinese and Persian artworks, coupled with contemporary digital techniques, the artworks express innovation through this intercrossing. The Stolen Button won second place in the Queensland Children’s and Young Adult Writers and Illustrators Competition in the aspiring picture book category. Illustrations were exhibited across three Brisbane City Council libraries in 2018 and 2019. The author and the illustrator were invited to artist panels and interviewed with local, national, and international magazines including Peril Magazine and BEMAC. A Kickstarter fund raised over $6000 and was published by Rock On Kitty with an initial print run of 1000 copies. There are a number of positive reviews from professionals and general readers on the GoodReads website. No Full Tex
