No full textIsang katangian ng kultura ay ang pagpupunyaging maiangat ang mga tradisyon na nagbibigay ng kasarinlan at ideolohiya ng isang komunidad. Nagpapakita ito ng kaugalian, tradisyon, paniniwala o relihiyon na hinabi ng matagal na panahon at ang ilan ay nanatili pa rin sa kasalukuyang pag-iral. Nagsisilbi rin ang kultura na pintuan nang nakaraan na nagsasalaysay ng mga katangi-tanging kaganapang maaaring magbigay ng aral at kabatiran sa kasalukuyan. Ang pag-aaral na ito ay naglalayong suriin ang intelektwal na talambuhay ng isang iskolar na nagmapa ng kultura at panitikang Mangyan sa Araling Pilipinas gamit ang lente ni Schleiermacher. Ang mga tiyak na layunin ng pag-aaral na ito ay; 1) ilarawan ang naging talambuhay na Antoon V. Postma bilang isang paring misyonaryo at bilang isang bahagi sa pangkat Hanunuo, Mangyan; 2) maglahad ng mga dominanteng temang naisulat ni Postma mula sa mga tesktong pagbabatayan ng pagkuha ng datos na nagtataguyod sa pagsulong ng Araling Mangyan/ Mindoro; 3) maghain ng impluwensya ng mga kontribusyon ni Postma hinggil sa pagsasagawa at pagpapakahulugan sa Araling Mangyan/ Mindoro sa Araling Pilipinas batay sa kaniyang naging pamamaraan, mga paksa, at teoretikal na ambag. Ginamit ng mananaliksik ang Deskriptibong Pag-aaral Batay sa Pansinupang Pananaliksik at Gawaing Pansilid-Aklatan (Archival Research and Library Work). Ang pagtatala, pagsisinop, at pag-iisa-isa sa nilalaman ng mga naisulat ni Postma ang naging batayan ng mananaliksik upang matukoy ang mga pangkalahatang diskurso o temang naisulat ni Postma na nagsusulong ng identidad ng kultura at panitikang Mangyan. Naging batayan ng mananaliksik ang lente ni Scheleirmacher sa kaniyang teoryang Hermeneutics na ang pagpapakahulugan ng mananaliksik sa mga tekstong kultural ni Postma ay isang mahalagang gawain at gampanin sapagkat nagbibigay daan ito sa masusing pagpapakahulugan o interpretasyon at pagpapahalaga sa kahulugan ng tekstong pangkultura. Sa pag-aaral sa intelektwal na talambuhay ni Postma ipinakita ang pagkakaroon ng iba’t ibang akda na naging ambag niya sa mundo ng kasaysayan, wika, antropolohiya, at kultura. Nakasalamuha niya sa kaniyang isinagawang pagmimisyon ang mga pangkat-etnikong Hanunuo, Mangyan na nagbigay ng daan upang matuklasan niya ang mas malawak na kaalaman ng isang komunidad, gawi, at tradisyon nito. Nagbigay daan ito upang itayo niya ang Mangyan Heritage Center na impok-salukan ng mga karunungan at kaalaman sa Araling Mindoro. Naging pangunahing paksa ng kaniyang pag-aaral ang tungkol sa Ambahan at kulturang Mangyan na nagbigay direksyon upang makapagtipon at makapa-ambag ng mga aklat na magiging batayan sa paglulunsad ng Araling Mangyan. Binigyang pansin ang solidong katibayan ng pagmumuhon ni Postma sa Araling Mindoro gamit ang lente ng teoryang Hermenyutika ni Schleiermacher. Ang isinagawang pagpapakahulugan sa mga tekstong kultural ni Postma ay naging mahalagang gampanin sapagkat nagbigay ito ng pagtutulay sa malalim na pagpapakahulugan ng kultura, tradisyon, at paniniwala ng mga pangkat ng Mangyan. Ang intelektwal na talambuhay ni Postma bilang paring misyonaryo ang nagbukas ng daan sa mga pagsusuri at pagbuo ng mga pananaliksik sa Araling Mindoro partikular sa Araling Pilipinas. Ang kaniyang kaligiran bilang isang paring nabibilang sa Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) na ang misyon sa Pilipinas ay hindi lamang nagdala ng Kristiyanismo kundi nagpakita rin ng malasakit sa mga tao sa lahat na aspeto ng kanilang buhay. Ang pananaliksik na ito ay naghahatid upang magsagawa pa ng mas malawak na pag-aaral tungkol sa mga akda ni Postma sa pamamagitan ng pag-iisa-isa sa mga koleksyong matatagpuan sa Mangyan Heritage Center partikular ang kaniyang mga unpublished manuscript. Hinihikayat pa ang pagkaroon ng pag-aanalisa o pagsusuri sa iba pang mga antropologong nag-aral sa iba pang pangkat-etnikong Mangyan maliban sa Hanunuo na siyang naging konsetrasyon ng pag-aaral ni Postma upang mapagkumpara ang kanilang natatanging mga kultura at tradisyon. Makatutulong rin ito upang makawala sa dominanteng pag-aaral ng Hanunuo, Mangyan sa iba pang pangkat ng Mangyan upang maiwasan ang cultural misrepresentation Makabubuti rin sa mga lokal na pagpaplano ang pagbuo ng Center for Hanunuo Mangyan Studies na maaaring magtipon o maglulan ng di mabilang na mga pag-aaral tungkol dito.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
