    In a previous work (Amara-Hachmi &amp; El Fallah-Seghrouchni, 2004), we proposed a component-based generic adaptive mobile agent (GAMA) architecture that exhibits a minimal mobile agent behavior. In this article, we will focus on GAMAs’ awareness of their execution context. Thus, we propose a formal model of context to be used in a semantic approach for checking agents’ compatibility with new execution contexts. The remainder of this article starts with definitions of context and context-awareness for GAMA mobile agents. We then introduce our context model and detail the proposed approach, before concluding the article.</jats:p

    This book contains the proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Languages, Methodologies and Development Tools for Multi-agent Systems (LADS 2009), which took place during September 7–9, 2009 in Turin, Italy. As in its 2007 edition, this workshop was a part of MALLOW, a federation of workshops on Multi-Agent Logics, Languages, and Organizations. The LADS 2009 workshop addressed both theoretical and practical issues related to developing and deploying multi-agent systems. It constituted a rich forum where leading researchers from both academia and industry could share their experiences on formal approaches, programming languages, methodologies, tools and techniques supporting the development and deployment of multi-agent systems. From a theoretical point of view, LADS 2009 aimed at addressing issues related to theories, methodologies, models and approaches that are needed to facilitate the development of multi-agent systems ensuring their predictability and verification. Formal declarative models and approaches have the potential of offering solutions for the specification and design of multi-agent systems. From a practical point of view, LADS 2009 aimed at stimulating research and dis- cussion on how multi-agent system specifications and designs can be effectively implemented and tested. This book is the result of a strict selection and review process. From 14 papers originally submitted to LADS 2009, and after 2 rounds of reviews, we selected 10 high-quality papers covering important topics related to multi-agent programming technology, such as: agent architectures, programming languages and methodologies, social interaction models, development tools and applications of multi-agent systems

    Since the first edition in 2013, the International Workshop on Engineering Multi-Agent Systems (EMAS) is a reference venue where software engineering, MAS, and artificial intelligence researchers can meet, discuss different viewpoints and findings, and share them with industry. Originally set up by merging three separate historical workshops – AOSE, focusing on software engineering aspects, ProMAS about programming aspects, and DALT about the application of declarative techniques to design, program, and verification of MAS – EMAS overall purpose is to facilitate the cross- fertilisation of ideas and experiences in the various fields to: – enhance knowledge and expertise in MAS engineering and improve the state or-the art; – define new directions for MAS engineering that are useful to practitioners, relying in results and recommendations coming from different but continuous research areas; – investigate how practitioners can use or need to adapt established method- ologies for the engineering of large-scale and open MAS. Like in previous editions, also the 5th edition of the workshop has been co-located with AAMAS (International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems) which in 2017 took place in Brasil, Sao Paulo. The previous editions were held in St. Paul (LNAI 8245), in Paris (LNAI 8758), in Istanbul (LNAI 9318) and in Singapore (LNAI 10093). This year the EMAS workshop was held as a two-day event. Eighteen papers were submitted to the workshop and after a double review process, ten papers were selected for inclusion in this volume. All the contributions were revised by taking into account the comments received and the discussions at the workshop. Among them, the paper “Approaching Interactions in Agent-Based Modelling with an Affordance Perspective” by Franziska Klu ̈gl and Sabine Timpf also ap- pears in LNAI 10642 [Sukthankar G., Rodriguez-Aguilar J. (eds), AAMAS 2017 Ws Best Papers, LNAI 10642, 2017, DOI: 10.1007/978-3-319-71682-4 14], since it was selected as the best paper of the workshop. Finally, we would like to thank the members of the Program Committee for their work during the reviewing phase, as well as the members of the EMAS Steering Committee for their valuable suggestions and support.
