The effects of vegetarian diets on bone health: a literature review
No full textIn these recent years many people are adopting a vegetarian type diet due to the numerous positive health effects of this regimen such as the reduction of the incidence of many chronic disorders like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cancer. However this diet is quite restrictive and so it could be possible to have a deficiency in some specific nutrients, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Although there are conflicting results on the effects of the vegetarian diet on bone health and fracture incidence, it is always recommendable in vegetarian people to have an adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, through an increased intake of supplements, natural and fortified foods, an adequate intake of protein, fruit, vegetables, as well as vitamin B12. The aim of this literature review is to revise the actual knowledge of the effect of some nutrients and vegetarian diets on bone health. Novos arranjos e velhos dilemas na democratização das políticas sociais: os Conselhos de políticas públicas e a experiência de Araraquara
No full textCristhiane Falchetti trata nesta obra, especificamente, dos Conselhos Gestores de Políticas Públicas, que representariam uma novidade institucional na relação entre estado e sociedade e uma forma de democratizar as decisões sobre políticas públicas e assegurar os direitos de cidadania. A autora parte do contexto do processo de transformações por que passaram as sociedades no final do século XX, o qual tornou a democracia um valor universal, amparado no modelo liberal. No entanto, o modelo liberal democrático tem sido questionado por se mostrar incapaz de absorver demandas sociais cada vez mais abrangentes e diferenciadas. É no interior desta contradição que Falchetti conduz seu trabalho. Araraquara, cidade paulista rica e próspera, mas com resistentes traços de coronelismo em sua cultura política, foi o campo escolhido pela autora para verificar, na prática, em que medida a participação popular se efetiva por meio dos novos canais e influencia o processo de formulação e implantação de políticas públicas. As conclusões, porém, não são muito animadoras. Para Falchetti a participação existe, mas se dá ainda de maneira bastante imperfeita e insatisfatória do ponto de vista da democracia

Elisabetta Falchetti (1948-2022): For the culture of sustainability
No full textElisabetta Falchetti was a reference point for all those approaching the boundaries of knowledge and relationships between disciplines such as Ecology, Art Sciences, Museology, Education and Neuroscience within a sustainability framework. Her worldview was contagious and stimulated anyone she met along her path to play an active role in her life. With the European Centre for Cultural Organisation and Management (ECCOM), we met precisely on the ground of this common commitment. She was deeply convinced of the need for profound social transformation to promote justice, equity, gender equality, well-being, quality of life and sustainable communities. Her gaze and attention were constantly addressed to local communities, especially those marginalized or discriminated against, to create opportunities for cultural life participation, to encourage creative interaction and exchange. She always supported and felt the need for a new cultural and social museology more focused on the needs of communities. The emerging social museology must reflect on certain social priorities and experiment new strategies to create “contact zones” (Clifford, 1997). The metaphor, which she loved so much and has guided many of our reflections, takes inspiration from systemic structure of living systems. The spaces that in the various structures represent borders and contiguous areas, such as those between cells, organs, populations, biotic communities, ecosystems, guide reflection on the importance of boundaries (Da Milano, Falchetti & Guida, 2019). In those contact zones it is possible to develop constructive relationships between environment and culture, new narratives and visions, social representations. This process can encourage multi-, inter- and trans-cultural approaches.
For Elisabetta Falchetti, Ecology was the science that can integrate narratives and visions that spread systemic thinking. Feudozzo’s experience (L’Astorina et al., 2021) represented a moment of reflection on this issue to help build new ethical-social attitudes and horizons (Falchetti & Guida, 2021).
A fundamental element for her was the role that imagination plays in the processes of transformation and change. In one of her latest contributions, she said "people’s imaginative capacity must be nurtured. In fact, only with a fervent imagination does it become possible to build a sustainable perspective for the future and to identify strategies to pursue it” (Guida & Falchetti, 2021).
She leaves us with many things to reflect on but also with things still to be imagined and told.
