Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Objetivo Describir la estrategia docente administrativa de la Filial Piti Fajardo para enfrentar la COVID-19. Método: Se realizó un estudio transversal sobre la estrategia docente administrativa de la Filial Piti Fajardo para enfrentar la COVID-19 en San Cristóbal, provincia de Artemisa en el periodo de marzo-junio de 2020. Las variables analizadas fueron proceso docente, proceso extensionista, reordenamiento laboral y medidas administrativas y de servicios. Resultados: se garantizó la documentación y material bibliográfico necesario para dar continuidad a la preparación de estudiantes, los que garantizaron el universo de personas pesquisadas. Fueron reubicados los profesores con teletrabajo, y dirigiendo la pesquisa. Se aprovechó para la reparación y pintura del centro

No full textThe author analyses the different treatment of the figure of the myth of Hercules in two historic works from the Spanish baroque: Corona Gótica by the diplomat Saavedra Fajardo and De rebus hispaniae by the Jesuit Juan de Mariana. Pragmatic Case Studies as a Source of Unity in Applied Psychology
No full textTo unify or not to unify applied psychology: that is the question. In this article we review pendulum swings in the historical efforts to answer this question—from a comprehensive, positivist, “top-down,” deductive yes between the 1930s and the early 60s, to a postmodern no since then. A rationale and proposal for a limited, “bottom-up,” inductive yes in applied psychology is then presented, employing a case-based paradigm that integrates both positivist and postmodern themes and components. This paradigm is labeled “pragmatic psychology” and, its specific use of case studies, the “Pragmatic Case Study Method” (“PCS Method”). We call for the creation of peer-reviewed journal-databases of pragmatic case studies as a foundational source of unifying applied knowledge in our discipline. As one example, the potential of the PCS Method for unifying different angles of theoretical regard is illustrated in an area of applied psychology, psychotherapy, via the case of Mrs. B. The article then turns to the broader historical and epistemological arguments for the unifying nature of the PCS Method in both applied and basic psychology.Peer reviewe
A palynological study of macrofungi from the "La Franja" farm, Viancito village, Vianí-Cundinamarca
No full textColombia es un país con una gran diversidad biológica a causa de su ubicación geográfica, el clima y orografía que presenta, sin embargo, los estudios en macrohongos son escasos. Existe una dificultad por la ausencia de taxónomos especialistas e insuficientes recursos para su identificación, pues el material enfocado a la determinación taxonómica se centra mayormente en caracteres macroscópicos, lo que no permite identificar estos organismos hasta el taxón género. Por ello, es fundamental realizar estudios sobre características microscópicas e implementarlas en el proceso de identificación, ya que esto puede brindar información más específica sobre algunos géneros y especies y, por lo tanto, realizar identificaciones más precisas. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo describir las características de las esporas de macrohongos presentes en la finca “La Franja”, vereda Viancito, municipio Vianí-Cundinamarca. Se llevó a cabo una revisión bibliográfica sobre las características palinológicas que se deben tener en cuenta en macrohongos. También se llevaron las muestras de los macrohongos a la sede Macarena B de la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas. En el laboratorio se hizo la esporada a cada uno de los hongos, se realizaron montajes de las esporas y se llevó a cabo el registro fotográfico. Finalmente se hizo la descripción palinológica a cada macrohongo. Se determinaron 36 especies, 32 de la división Basidiomycota, principalmente de los órdenes Agaricales, Russulales, Auriculares, Boletales, Geastrales y Polyporales y 4 especies de la división Ascomycota, dentro de los órdenes Xylariales, Helotiales, y Pezizales. Las principales formas de esporas que se encontraron para la división Basidiomycota fueron redondas, subglobosas, elipsoides, oblonga, cilíndrica y para la división Ascomycota la forma elipsoidal. En cuanto a ornamentaciones para ambas divisiones se pueden hallar lisas, equinadas-espinosas y estriadas. Como producto se realizó un catálogo palinológico en base a los resultados obtenidos de este estudio, buscando contribuir a la identificación de especies presentes en Vianí, siendo el primer catálogo para este municipio, aportando también a la diversidad de macrohongos en Colombia.Colombia is a country with great biological diversity due to its geographical location, climate, and orography. However, studies on macrofungi are scarce. This scarcity arises from the lack of specialized taxonomists and insufficient resources for their identification, as the material used for taxonomic determination is primarily based on macroscopic characteristics, which do not allow for identification beyond the genus level. Therefore, it is essential to conduct studies on microscopic characteristics and incorporate them into the identification process, as this can provide more specific information about certain genera and species, enabling more precise identifications. The present research aims to describe the spore characteristics of macrofungi found on the “La Franja” farm, Viancito village, municipality of Vianí, Cundinamarca. A bibliographic review was conducted on the palynological characteristics that should be considered in macrofungi. Additionally, macrofungal samples were taken to the Macarena B campus of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas. In the laboratory, spore prints were prepared for each fungus, spore mounts were made, and photographic documentation was carried out. Finally, the palynological description of each macrofungus was completed. A total of 36 species were identified: 32 from the Basidiomycota division, primarily from the orders Agaricales, Russulales, Auriculariales, Boletales, Geastrales, and Polyporales, and 4 species from the Ascomycota division, within the orders Xylariales, Helotiales, and Pezizales. The main spore shapes found for the Basidiomycota division were round, subglobose, ellipsoid, oblong, and cylindrical, while for the Ascomycota division, the predominant shape was ellipsoidal. Regarding ornamentation, both divisions displayed smooth, echinate-spiny, and striate spores. As a result, a palynological catalog was developed based on the findings of this study, aiming to contribute to the identification of species present in Vianí. This is the first catalog for this municipality, further contributing to the understanding of macrofungal diversity in Colombia

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
