An analytical study of the theatre of the Syrian playwright Saadallah Wannous, with particular emphasis on the plays written after the 1967 war
This study is an examination of the life and work of
the Syrian dramatist Saadallah Wannous (1941-1997). Wannous's name is virtually unknown in the West; only two academic studies of any significance have appeared in English on this eminent and challenging writer, who was honoured by UNESCO at the end of his life. Even in the Arab world his standing rests largely upon his celebrity as a cultural icon, since professional performances of his plays are rare due to the decline of the theatre in the region, and little attention has been devoted to theatre studies by Arab academics. The two studies in English do not attempt to be comprehensive but focus on particular stages of Wannous's career. This study is, therefore, the first to encompass the full range of Wannous's work. To do so it combines an account of his life which seeks to comprehend the various forces that shaped his thinking with an analysis of his dramatic works. The study concentrates on the plays written in the years following the trauma inflicted on the Arab world by the catastrophe of their
defeat in the Arab-Israeli war of June, 1967. Wannous's career can be divided into three phases: the immature plays of his young manhood which are influenced by European models and generally focus on the social condition of the individual; his middle period - the `theatre of politicisation', when his Marxist politics were the main
factor shaping his drama; and his late works, which are characterised by an extraordinary freedom of thought and expression. The introduction places Wannous in his historical and sociocultural context and provides a brief background explaining the literary and theatrical traditions of the Arab world that influenced his activity as a dramatist. Each phase is then examined in turn and the plays are analysed in accordance with the focus of the study. This means that emphasis is given to the middle period,
but no significant work is neglected. The study aims to trace the trajectory of Wannous's development using a
variety of sources: the plays themselves, Wannous's own journalism and critical writings, interviews with his widow, his friends and colleagues, and numerous
journals, books and articles, some of which contain
important interviews with Wannous that shed light on his thought and ways of working. Use is also made of the
two studies mentioned above. The study shows that Wannous's theatre was influenced by the key political, social and cultural developments of his time, and that he
constantly sought to find forms that would express those transformations in dramatic terms
Tafsir Al-Qur'an, attr.to Abdullah b. Abbas (d.68/668)
This research is an analytical study and an edition of Sürat al-Fätiha and Sürat al-Baqara
from a copy of the manuscript that is the tafsir ascribed to Ibn `Abbas according to the
transmission of al-Kalbi from Abü Sälih. Historians reckon some ninety-eight copies of
this manuscript exist, some complete and others partial commentaries, as mentioned in
the Fahras al-Shimil. I have relied upon the main copy extant at Markaz Juma ` al-Mäjid,
Dubai, cross-referencing it against three separate manuscripts and the printed Tanwir al-
Migbäs.
The study concludes that the text is neither the authorship nor the direct narration of Ibn
`Abbas but is likely to be the work of al-Kalbi. This is based on a careful and detailed
presentation of the life of Ibn `Abbas, his knowledge, his scholarship in exegesis, the
sources upon which he relied for his exegesis, methodology and the aspects and subjects
he treated therein; The aim of this chapter is to ascertain what the probability is of the
edited text being the work of Ibn `Abbas, the probability that al-Kalbi has transmitted it
from him, and if not, then is it correct to posit that al-Kalbi is its author ? Also, the life of
al-Kalb-i, his works in tafsir, his style, methodology and his contributions to the field of
exegesis.
Also the study concludes that the printed Tanwir al-Migbäs is the same in transmission,
with some differences in words order or commentaries with the other manuscripts, we
used in this study.
I have divided the study into two parts: an analytical study of the text and edition. The
study includes a biography of Ibn `Abbas covering his social and intellectual life in order
to ascertain whether there is any truth in the ascription of the manuscript to him. There is
also an account of the life of al-Kalbi, the alleged reporter of this tafsir, and the one who
ascribes it to Ibn `Abbas, covering similar aspects as that for Ibn `Abbas, in order to shed
some light on whether there is a possibility that he is the author of the manuscript. R , ere
is also a comparative study on some aspects that appear in the manuscript with other
books in tafsir. After this I undertake an analytical study of the manuscript to clarify its
methodology in tafsTr by way of presenting the sources of tafsir it uses and the subjects it
covers along with its style. Also included are the characteristics of the manuscript with a
conclusion covering the results found.
The second part of this study is an edition of al-Fätiha and al-Baqara taken from the
manuscript and in Arabic. The edition involved the following: inserting of grammatical
inflections to verses of the Qur'än and numbering, writing of the verses in a font (Kufic
script) differentiating them from the rest of the text, referencing of hadith from their
sources, the inserting of grammatical inflections on unusual or unclear words and an
explanation of their meanings, correction of typographical errors, indications of variant
readings of verses if required, biographies of personalities and the identification of
countries, places and tribes
Ghayat al-amani and the life and times of al-Hadi Yahya b. al-Husayn: an introduction, newly edited text and translation with detailed annotation
The thesis is anchored upon a text extracted from an important 11th / 17th century Yemeni historical work. This text deals primarily with al-Hādī ilā 'I-Haqq, the founder of the Zaydī Imamate in the Yemen that lasted well over a thousand years. AI-Hādīs imamate, of considerable significance in itself, also coincides with one of the most turbulent periods of early Yemeni mediaeval history. The- edited Arabic text, with its accompanying apparatus criticus. Is to be found at the opposite end of this volume. The Introduction considers various aspects of Imam al-Hadī’s life, religious ideas and aspirations and matters directly connected with the edited text and the work of which it forms a part. Among the most important subjects discussed are the MSS used in the production of the edited text, the problem concerning the authorship of Ghāyat al-amānī and the relationship of the latter work to Anbā' al-zaman. A short biography of al-Hādī is provided, together with a treatment of the historical background to ai-Hādīs imamate. The introduction also describes the editorial method followed with regard to the text, and certain key personal names and toponyms are dealt with there. The method employed by the author of the Ghāyat is to record the events of any one year by Itself. I have translated one year at a time and then followed it by the annotations appertaining to it. It is hoped that by means of these annotations. (some of which through necessity are quite detailed ), the text will be better understood. The numerous personages, tribal names and toponyms are considered, as well as problems concerning points of chronology and various matters of historical and religious significance. Specific comment is made upon certain interesting terms or any unusual or striking vocabulary. The thesis concludes with maps, genealogical tables and a comprehensive bibliography
Generating B-spline curves with points, normals and curvature constraints: A constructive approach
This paper presents a constructive method for generating a uniform cubic B-spline curve interpolating a set of data points simultaneously controlled by normal and curvature constraints. By comparison, currently published methods have addressed one or two of those constraints (point, normal or cross-curvature interpolation), but not all three constraints simultaneously with C2 continuity. Combining these constraints provides better control of the generated curve in particular for feature curves on free-form surfaces. Multivalued Caristi's type mappings in fuzzy metric spaces and a characterization of fuzzy metric completeness
In this note we show a fixed point theorem for multivalued Caristi's type mappings on a large class of complete fuzzy metric spaces. Blueprint for the STIG1.0: setting the performance indicators
Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) have been developed over the last decades all over the world. SDI is the integration of several components to create a platform which enables a wide variety of stakeholders to access, share and use spatial data in an efficient and effective way. To stimulate the SDI development effectively and efficiently, it is key to assess the progress and benefits of the SDI. Currently, several SDI assessment methods exist. However, most assessment methods are analyzing the SDI as a whole, which does not allow understanding their internal dynamics and none of these appear to meet the requirements of practitioners. Thus, SDI decision makers are still without any guidance on the success of their SDI.The research on this paper stands on an ongoing PhD research project on the development of a sound foundation for an academic theoretical framework for the STIG, Stress Test for Infrastructure of Geographic information. The last paper was focused on the similarities of the Financial infrastructures with the Spatial Data Infrastructures and if the financial stress testing which is commonly used to assess the sustainability and success of the financial system can be used for SDI assessment. Based on a review of the nature and concept of the SDI and Financial Infrastructure (FI) we conclude that there is significant similarity between these two infrastructures and the stress test methodology is likely to be an appealing alternative way of assessing SDIs.The purpose of this paper is to define the Core SDI Principles based on the 29 Basel Core Principles and setting up the Core SDI performance indicators. Additionally, a set of essential and additional assessment criteria for each Core SDI Principle will be defined. From all the examined types of risk factors and methods to construct financial stress tests, the Multi-factor Stress tests (Hypothetical and a Non-systematic Subjective scenario model) are most promising as a basis for SDI assessment. This hypothetical scenario first chooses and then stresses risk factors based on expert inputs including users, producers, data owners, management, consultants etc. SDI practitioners can construct hypothetical scenarios when no historical scenarios match the special features of their situation or when they want to stress new combinations of risk factors. Stress testing as a SDI assessment method once implemented in the decision-making process, can effectively increase system robustness of a SDI. When implementing stress testing, challenges remain in modeling the interaction of different risk factors and their impacts. Such things as: integrating stress testing at different levels and making stress tests workable, realistic and timely remain complicated. These issues will be addressed in the research further developing the Stress Test for Infrastructure of Geographic information: the STIG. This chapter presents the summary of this report. It aim to summarize the activities related to the Problem description in chapter 1.3. In the section for problem description below the main activities are presented with regards to accomplishment and the contributions from the author of this master thesis is marked: contribution from author .
Problem description:
The problem description is based on the assignment and described in chapter 1.3:
Through the master thesis the student shall study and evaluate how Enterprise modeling and Architecture improves integration governance at NTNU supported by TOGAF. Case to be studied is TIA (Service Oriented Integration Architecture at NTNU). The student also shall research best practice for Integration Governance at comparable enterprises. By comparing and analyzing best practice with TOGAF and improvements identified by Enterprise modeling the student shall propose an Integration Governance model for NTNU and steps for implementation.
This necessitates following main activities:
1. Literature study and study of relevant NTNU internal documents:
(a) Concepts found in the literature study are defined in chapter 2: Definition of

A cross-sectional questionnaire based KAP study was conducted at Civil Hospital, Karachi, during the period of January to September 2006. HCWs were inquired about possible modes of HBV transmission and association with NSIs. Data were entered using EpiInfo 6.04d software. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 12.5 software. A total of 343 HCWs participated, and those answered at least 5 correct modes of HBV transmission were considered knowledgeable. Knowledgeable group was more likely to report NSIs (p \u3c 0.006), more vaccinated (p \u3c 0.001) and were also more likely to attend awareness session (p \u3c 0.009). Overall knowledge were inadequate and behaviour and attitude towards clinical practices were found compromised. To reduce the occupational risk, effort should be focused to establish effective infection control program and training of staff
