The impact of hiding information / Siti Khadijah Mazlan and Muhamad Faiz Muhamad Arif
'Hiding information' has been found at different meanings that, unfortunately, are conflicting and hence potentially misleading. In the disciplines of information management studies, 'hiding information' 'tends to be used to refer to forms of information reflects, which is increased by reducing or eliminating problems. In particular, hiding refers to possibility of accessing information, intentions or behaviour's that have been intentionally exposed through a process of disclosure. For the disciplines of computer science and IT studies, 'hiding information' is more likely to refer to a condition of information difficult to find with the eye, but actually, the information is there actually. It happens when an application or computational process is said to be hidden to the user which information is to be made accessible to some agents by an information provider. Not all information managers in the area of information studies use the expression "information hiding"
Growth and development of oil palm seedlings response on water stress at Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan Kota Tinggi Timur / Muhamad Faiz Muhamad Fadil
Oil palm or in scientific name is known as Elaeis Guineensis is a major crop that most popular planted in Malaysia. Oil palm also known as very sensitive crop that need good management practices to produce the best quality of the yields. The management started from the nursery stage. At the nursery, water is the essential requirement that needed for plant growth. Oil palm seedlings in the pre nursery need 0.5 L water while in the main nursery the oil palm seedlings should get 2.0 L per day. Besides, water also can lead the oil palm seedlings to stress. There are many factors that can cause the water stress such as drought and raining season and poor irrigation system. This experiment is focused on growth and development of oil palm seedlings in response to water stress conditions. After soil water holding test have been made, the oil palm seedlings is transferred to the sandy loam soil in the polybags. Then, the experiment is carried out by using complete randomize with four water levels that measured as water stress which were control that give enough water for the seedlings, excess water level from control, partially flooding and continuously flooding condition. Then, growth and development of the seedlings based on parameter such as plant height, diameter, number of leaves, roots length and dry weight were measured. From the experiment, significant change is occurred but the best result of seedlings even face the water stress is on control because it has the highest result on the most of measured parameter
Accelerating DNA sequence alignment based on smith waterman algorithm using recursive variable expansion / Muhamad Faiz Ismail
Reconfigurable computing, in which general purpose processor (GPP) is increasingly used for high performance computing where massive fine-grain parallelism can be exploited. A challenge is to exploit such massive parallelism on LabVIEW and more specifically how to map an application on the heterogeneous underlying platform. Similar to hardware compilers, software compilers can use loops to exploit such parallelism. The existence of a dependence between data is one the constraints that limits parallelism in a program. In this dissertation, we propose a transformation called Recursive Variable Expansion (RVE), which can be applied to an important category of loops. It removes all the data dependences by expanding the variable with its dependence expression until the expression becomes only a function of known variables. We classify two types of expressions, one which expands polynomially, and other which expands exponentially on the number of input variables. Irrespective of the type of expression, when we map an expression on LabVIEW, the area (LUT) required is proportional to the number of terms in the expression. The exponentially expanding version is applicable to the category of dynamic programming (DP) problems for which RVE is combined with dataflow. We demonstrated better performance than dataflow only, which is the best technique known so far for such problems. We generalize the approach by proposing a framework such that the technique can be applied to a large range of DP problems. Finally, we validate the proposed DP framework using the Smith-Waterman (SW) algorithm, which is a widely used, computation and data intensive application in bioinformatics. We show that our implementation yields a two times speedup at the cost of almost three times more area as compared to the conventional dataflow traditional array implementation
Musculoskeletal pain for table tennis activity: (REBA) Assessment / Muhammad Faiz Muhamad Fauzri
Today, musculoskeletal disorders are of extensive occupational injuries around the world. These problems represent one-third of all the injuries when playing table tennis. However, because of improper position of students during play a table tennis, the risk of adopting abnormal postures is common. In order to establish appropriate strategies to prevent this deterioration, having accurate information about them is necessary. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk of musculoskeletal pain amongst UiTM Bukit Besi student who playing table tennis. For this project, the methodology used is The Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA). The Rapid Entire Body Assessment tool uses a systematic process to evaluate both upper and lower parts of musculoskeletal system for biomechanical and MSD risks associated with the job the task being evaluated. However, the expected result is body posture was evaluated using REBA sheet and it can be concluded that the major areas susceptible to uncomfortable and painful working postures
January effect: the existence in Malaysia stock market / Muhamad Faiz Irwan Fadzil
Past studies in the United States, Canada and Australia indicated the existence of seasonality effect, i.e. “January effect” due to taxes imposed on the capital gains in these countries. This paper attempted to find out whether or not this conclusion is also true in the case of Malaysia where there is no tax imposed on the capital gains. Initial observations showed that there is January effect in the year 2007. The mean daily return of January in year 2007 recorded the highest mean score compared to other months studied. Higher mean daily standard deviation in the month of January than other months somewhat reinforce the existence of January effects in the Malaysian market in the year 2007. However, the F-statistic indicated that the overall differences among these months were not statistically significant, which means there is no January effect or even seasonality effect in Malaysi
The effectiveness of zakat payment management via online by Lembaga Zakat Selangor among residents in Shah Alam / Muhamad Faiz Mahbob
Management of zakat collection Via online was provided by LZS to make easier process payment. Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) are play roles as parties between zakat payers and zakat recipients. However, present system obtains still do not efficient to promote zakat payer, and leakages in zakat payment is widely discussed. Knowledgeable city community ignore information provided by facilities management collection of zakat in LZS caused some of zakat payers has negative perception from the zakat management on zakat funds. Thus, LZS should avoid any problem technical of zakat funds especially zakat payment and must provide guidelines as an effectively system to handle zakat collection based on current issue. This research will identify factors relationship between zakat payment and management collection effectively either online or via counter. There are some suggestions for improving the website system as well
Determination of the antioxidant activity of kaempferia galanga (cekur) in an fe-induced lipid peroxidation system / Muhamad Faiz Othman
Antioxidants play a major role in terminating the lipid peroxidation process and in scavenging free radicals. Phenolic compounds, which can be easily found in the plant kingdom, have been proven by many researchers to be potent antioxidants. A popular Malay herb, Kaempferia gal.anga or locally known as cekur, was reported to contain quite a lot of phenolic compounds. This study thus was carried out with the aim of determining the antioxidant activity of Kaempferia galanga using the Fe2+/NADPH induced lipid peroxidation microsomal system. The ethyl acetate extract of Kaempferia gal.anga was prepared prior to this study by a Msc. candidate. For the induction of lipid peroxidation in microsomes, iron was utilized as the free radical generator in the presence of NADPH. In this study, the optimum concentration of iron for induction of lipid peroxidation was determined. The results showed that the optimal iron concentration to initiate lipid peroxidation was 15 µM. The antioxidant activity of Kaempferia galanga ethyl acetate extract was measured using this established Fe2+/NADPH system. Lipid peroxidation was monitored by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (fBARS) method. Trolox and quercetin were use as positive control as both compounds are potent antioxidant. The results showed that Kaempferia gal.anga ethyl acetate extract possess antioxidant activity although not as potent as the controls (trolox and quercetin). The concentration which inhibits lipid peroxidation by 50% (inhibiting concentration; IC50) for the rhizome extract of Kaempferia galanga was 0.03 mg/ml while for leaf extract, it was 0.014 mg/ml.The ICso for trolox was 0.003 mg/ml The IC50 for quercetin could not be determined as it has very potent antioxidant activity even at very low concentrations in this system. In summary, the results obtained showed that the ethyl acetate extract of Kaempferia galanga (both rhizome and leaf) possessed antioxidant in vitro activity as both produced inhibition of lipid peroxidation although their magnitude of activity as not high as trolox and quercetin. Potency was half that of trolox for the leaf extract and a magnitude lower for the rhizome extract based upon a comparison of the IC50 values
