COM156: Digital photo communication / Faculty of Communication and Media Studies
The course is offered as a compulsory course for the semester 2 students of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS). Its aim is to teach students to take and compose photographs using Single Lens Reflect (SLR) cameras and later edit and manipulate them in digital form. The students will be able to learn photo-editing software, example Photoshop and will be encouraged to enhance the photograph using their creativity. The students will also learn about picture composition as well as how to operate a digital SLR camera
COM661: Practical training / Faculty of Communication and Media Studies
The practical training is designed to provide all final year students with experience in a professional work environment in the field of communication and media studies. Students will have the opportunity to practise and apply knowledge and skills in various actual environments. During the one semester practical training, students will assigned to the mass media organisations, the media supporting industries of public relations and advertising, business industries, educational institutions, non-governmental and social services organisations, or other agencies involved in the appropriate communication activities. A supervisor from the faculty will advise on the academic matters to each student undergoing the training in addition to maintaining a two-way communication with the industry supervisor over-seeing the students works. Students need to perform the appropriate and related works assigned by their employers while keeping a log of all work tasks given to them. Compulsory supervision, meetings and evaluation are part of the training requirements. At the end of the training, students will submit a report to the faculty on the required information related to their practical training for overall evaluation
COM655: Internship / Faculty of Communication and Media Studies
Internship is designed to provide all final year students to gain experience in a professional work environment in the field of communication and media studies. This course offers the opportunity for students to discover their understanding of the communication and media field of study. The area of study in communication and media involved will be specifically catered to each programme within the faculty. Students will engage in discussions with their supervisor to complete the assessment given. The central theme of the report will be based upon reflective and analysis of different studies in the area of communication and media. Students will be required to explore each reflective piece and analysis with the guidance of their supervisor. The whole assessment will be based upon how students propose their ideas according to the field related and portray their thoughts and ideas that encompass the whole communication and media practices with the theories learned throughout their studies. Students should maintain constant contact with their supervisor an as this assessment requires discussion and approval. One of the most important aspects is a student should read and analyze reading materials such as books, journals, research and previous studies. There may also be additional reading, research and discussion assigned by the supervisor. At the end of the semester, students will be required to submit their reflective piece and analysis of their chosen topic

Marketing Communications introduces the importance of integrated marketing concepts and communication focusing in the areas of Advertising campaign, Public Relations and Marketing. This course discusses the essential elements of communication and marketing concepts by focusing on effective communication in promoting services and products. It provides an overview of the importance of communication competence and marketing which include analyzing communication context in marketing opportunities, developing marketing strategies, making marketing decisions and examines effective use of advertising, public relations, direct marketing, sales promotion and the media. Marketing Communications practitioners work across these aspects to coordinate and bring effectiveness in managing marketing or communication programs

This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of interpersonal communication as a field of study. Students are taught theoretical knowledge in interpersonal communication processes, its challenges and its respective guidelines to achieve competency in interpersonal communication. Particular attention will be given to core elements of the interpersonal communication processes, such as perception building, listening skills, understanding self , communication style, verbal communication, non-verbal cues in communication and issues affecting human relationship in various communication context. These theoretical and practical application is aimed at developing meaningful interpersonal relationships, both at professional and personal levels
CMP551: Internal communication / Faculty of Communication and Media Studies
This course is offered to communication management and policy students to equip them with thorough understanding of the functions of internal communication in organisation. It will provide knowledge and skills on how employee communication programs could increase organisational value. Students will be exposed to framework for best practices in managing internal communication. Students will have opportunities to investigate issues that challenge internal communication by analyzing real case studies and designing possible solutions for the benefits of the organisation. It seeks to develop students’ ability to integrate skills and knowledge on putting media vehicles strategically for communication purposes in the organisation. In addition, students should enhance their communication skills, both written and oral, through a thorough understanding of the strategies and techniques applied in managing employees. This course will complement student’s knowledge on basic human resource management towards providing a competent internal communication executive in the work place
