My First Collection of Aesop's Fables
This book delivers well what its title promises. These tellings and illustrations would appeal, I think, to the very youngest. Each of 46 fables gets two pages combining verse and two-dimensional colored illustrations. Perhaps the most memorable illustration is that repeated on the front cover: a dapper fox shakes his umbrella at the crow with cheese in his beak. I had to do some research to find out even the date of publication of this book with little bibliographical information. No Autho

Rekos 5
This booklet is one of twelve published by Rekos in Greek, apparently upon the designs done by Susaeta for a European-language edition. Its sixteen pages display excellent and lively colored illustrations. One fine spread in this good version of The Wolf and the Goat shows the young goat romping off with its satchel on its first spree alone. Luckily, that satchel contains a flute…. The wolf is very dapper in his cap and scarf. I cannot be sure, either from pictures or from the modern Greek, what kind of animal saves the flute-playing goat from the wolf.Language note: GreekPeter Thoma
Geoarchaeological study of the natural resources in the territory of the Roman town of Ammaia (Northeastern Alentejo, Portugal): case studies on water supply, building stone quarrying and opencast gold mining
This PhD-thesis presents the results of geoarchaeological research conducted in the ancient territory of the Roman town of Ammaia, located in the Northeastern Alentejo region in Portugal. It is focused on the exploitation of three major natural resources: water, granite and gold. In order to disentangle the considered research questions as comprehensively as possible, a geoarchaeological approach, integrating methods, techniques and knowledge base from a wide range of archaeological and geoscientific (sub)disciplines, was adopted in all three case studies. The studies further share the same base of fieldwork in a multidisciplinary frame of archaeologists, geomorphologists and geologists with different specialisations.
The study of Ammaia’s water supply was aimed at identifying the main sources of water for use in the town, and at evaluating the possibilities of aqueduct construction for a continuous provisioning of the town. It resulted in the identification of the major sources of water and the reconstruction of two aqueduct routes to the town.
The objective of the second geoarchaeological case study was to determine the provenance site(s) of Ammaia’s granite building stone. The abandoned quarry at Pitaranha, 6 km east of the town, was appointed as the producer of the typical Ammmaian granite.
In the third case study, the existence of this large scale Roman placer gold exploitation on a site along the Tagus River, was verified and the respective roles of natural and anthropogenic processes in the Late Quaternary landscape evolution assessed in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the genesis of the present-day landscape in the area.
Although much research is still needed before the full complexity of the ancient Roman economy and society will be understood, the author hopes that the studies presented in the framework of this PhD thesis unravel some of the burning issues regarding the exploitation and use of resources by the Roman town and that it forms a contribution to the still scanty knowledge on the Romanisation of the ancient province of Lusitania
Globalization is a process by which several individual and social group transformations are generated. One of its outcomes is that people become multicultural, losing their spatial reference and creating identity crisis. Against this system, there is a strong tendency for appreciation of local cultures and the rescue of techniques and traditions applied to products and services. To understand the territory as a product beyond its physical materiality, one has to include immaterial factors. In this context, the territory begins to be experienced as a consumption product. In this sense, and understanding that the role of the designer includes the material culture of a given place, and that its creations mix up values, the goal of this study was to propose an urban furniture for the city of Guaporé-RS, inspired by the local and emotional design identity, promoting connections and sensations that may contribute to relationship reconstruction between people and space. The urban furniture aims at offering services for the population when implemented in a logic location, promoting knowledge for the society to find the best solutions to their problems. The project was based upon the methodological propositions for strategic design by Platcheck (2012), adapted by the author. Furniture
development aims at reaching a better solution for a given problem by the application of different methods

The Fables of Aesop and Others Translated into Human Nature (Hand-colored)
Here is a lovely product of the labor of love of Paul Veres. He has scanned an original copy of the 1857 edition, cleaned it up with Photo Shop, and reproduced it on excellent paper. In this case, he has also bound the book with a fitting spine. That spine in fact includes not only the title but a lovely little image of the dapper fox from The Fox and the Crocodile (18). The result may be the cleanest version yet of Bennett in color. Let me include some comments from the original hand-colored edition: I had given up on the existence of this colored version when I found a Bibliocity advertisement for it from Sotheran and followed up. Am I ever glad that I did! This book is beautiful! Sotheran rightly speaks of the spirited handcoloured engraved plates. The book-cover is colored. The front reproduces the frontispiece: a man is being tried before a frightening lion judge. The back reproduces WL. The title-page illustration of the man seeing himself as a wolf in the mirror is one of my favorites here. Others include DS (11), Catspaw (14), DW (16), and WSC (21). Pagination is by the number of the individual fable among the 22. Notice the s that is shaped like an f. I had written that the 1857 copy was one of the stars of the collection. I now say the same about this facsimile. Veres and Calligraphics are not acknowledged in the book. This is a hardbound book (hard cover)Charles H. Bennett
