Land use and coverage in the municipalities of Rio Claro-SP and Corumbataí-SP
As part of important Protection Areas, the Environmental Preservation Area (APA) Corumbataí-Botucatu-Tejupá and Piracicaba / Juquerí-Mirim AREA-I, the municipalities of Rio Claro-SP and Corumbataí-SP are part of this important area State Environmental Protection. The environmental characteristics of this region, formed by basalt cuestas, testimonial hills, Atlantic forest and cerrado biomes, in addition to the presence of the Guarani Aquifer, are certified by in accordance with Decree nº. 20.960 of 1983 and Law nº. 7.438 of 1991, which aim to protect Watershed Protection areas, which aims to protect regions of high environmental susceptibility and scenic and natural value. Being the Use and Coverage of land, the types of natural or artificial cover (soil) reflected and captured by remote sensing images and which correspond to society's relations with space and time, the present work aimed to carry out an analysis multitemporal mapping of land use and coverage in the municipalities of Rio Claro-SP and Corumbataí-SP, from 1985 to 2022. Using the MapBiomas platform, which produces annual mappings of land use and coverage in Brazil, it was possible to analyze images of remote sensing (Landsat), changing landscapes and how urban occupation and agribusiness have advanced over vegetation areas. The data allowed us to analyze that agribusiness occupies 80% (60.000 ha) of the land, divided into Agriculture, Pastures and Mosaic of Uses. Sugarcane increased by almost 10.000 hectares and along with it other classes of Use such as the Urban Network, Mining and new crops, such as Soy, Coffee and Citrus. It is observed that a large part of the region, even though it is part of the aforementioned APA and also within it the Horto Florestal – Rio Claro (SP), loses forests and other areas of natural formations for the cultivation of sugar cane and pastures. . It was found that the municipalities of Rio Claro-SP and Corumbatai-SP, in their Land Use and Coverage classifications, are very susceptible to the advancement of agribusiness
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Soil characterization and its interrelations with land use in the Ribeirão Jacutinga Watershed - SP
This study aims to characterize the soils of the Ribeirão Jacutinga Watershed, located in Rio Claro (SP), highlighting their physical properties and interactions with land use. The methodology was divided into three stages: fieldwork, which involved collecting soil samples at two specific points and validating data through mapping in ArcGIS Pro; laboratory analysis, following the protocols of the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), focusing on particle size and morphological analysis; and a literature review, which provided the theoretical foundation for this work by analyzing the interaction between environmental and anthropogenic factors, such as land use.The results revealed the presence of two soil classes — Shallow to Developed Soils (Argissolo Acinzentado association) and Shallow Soils (Neossolo Regolítico association) — with texture variations under different land uses: pasture and exposed soil. Intensive pasture use was found to compact the surface horizons, reducing water infiltration, increasing surface runoff, and promoting water erosion. In the exposed soil area, no erosive processes were observed, likely due to the surrounding vegetation cover, which included diverse crop cultivation. The study underscores the necessity of implementing proper land management strategies to mitigate the impacts of agricultural activities, providing a basis for future conservation and environmental restoration efforts
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
In the current historical moment, given the accelerated changes in landscapes, in which the dynamics of society interpenetrate and, often, exceed the dynamics of nature, the environmental issue assumes importance in several fields of knowledge, especially, Geography. Among the diverse assignments developed in geographical and environmental contexts, erosion is one of the most commonly emphasized subjects. Therefore, this thesis aimed to analyze the main elements that influence environmental vulnerability to linear erosive processes (rills, ravines and gullies) in parts of Marabá Paulista-SP and Presidente Epitácio-SP. From the theoretical-methodological perspective of thought complexity, the relief, slope plans, soils, bedrocks, vegetation, surface curvature and land use aspects were characterized, in addition to the elaboration of cartographic documents using the Geographic Information System, in particular, the map of environmental vulnerability to linear erosive processes. Due to the possibilities of integrating data and assigning weights, the map was performed based on fuzzy sets, specifically, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which provided classified mapping: low (0.32%), medium (65.15%), high (34.45%) and very high vulnerability (0.08%). The low vulnerability is identified in the reminiscent cilliary forests. The medium vulnerability is located on the hilltops with slopes of less than 5%. The land use is predominantly for pasture and soils are for the most part developed and sandy. The high vulnerability is primarily the convex and rectilinear aspects, where the slopes can reach 15%. On the prevailing pasture, however, the expansion of the sugar cane crop was found and soil exposed to its successive planting. The very high vulnerability is present in the concave slopes, whose curvature favors the convergence of rainwater and thus, linear flow. This event is intensified towards the steep slopes – more than 20% of the region. Combined with these attributes, on shallow soils there is intensive grazing of livestock, which accelerates soil compaction and leads to erosion, one of the most recurrent means of degradation in the Far West of São Paulo. Thus, the present study may contribute to guiding the management of preventive and corrective measures to control erosion through environmental planning.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES
