Introduzione
Variation, Contact and Reconstruction in the Ancient Indo-European Languages. Between Linguistics and Philology
The collected papers in this book address an array of important issues in the field of Historical Linguistics and, specifically, Indo-European Linguistics, including different theoretical approaches and innovative methodologies for studying language organization and change, building on the strict relationship between Linguistics and Philology. The papers provide significant contributions to the understanding of aspects of variation, contact and reconstruction, reflect a wide range of perspectives, and focus on issues and data from a large variety of languages. The themes that emerge from the papers center around two main research lines: 1. the relationship between language facts and historical accidents; 2. the relationship between grammatical categories and conceptual representations. The book is of interest for any reader seeking to gain insight into the nature of language organization and change

Dickens transcodificato: metafiction, identità ed eredità culturale in 'The Personal History of David Copperfield' (2019) di Armando Iannucci
This essay investigates Armando Iannucci’s film The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019) through a semiotic and cultural lens. Considering the process of adaptation as a convergence of translation, transcoding, and rewriting, I intend to examine the relationship between the Dickensian hypotext and Iannucci’s work from an aesthetic, pluralist, materialist, and metafictional perspective. First, I will contextualise the film within adaptation taxonomies, relying on the director’s poetic declarations. Secondly, drawing on the concepts of ocularisation and auricularisation developed by Jost (1987), I will analyse how David Copperfield’s perspective is rendered throughout the film. Therefore, I will focus on camera work, framing, and audio narration. Thirdly, I will look into Iannucci’s attempt to render the scenic design as a ‘handmade’ ¬– and therefore ‘theatrical’ – physical entity. Lastly, drawing on Neo-Victorian Studies, I will highlight how the theme of self-discovery through the art of storytelling becomes central in the film, playing a pivotal role in the overlapping of Charles Dickens’ biographèmes (Barthes 1977) with David Copperfield’s ‘personal history’. From a cultural perspective, I will investigate how Iannucci redefines Victorian Englishness in literary terms, representing a multiethnic, creative, and outgoing society whose Dickensian humor is part of its cultural heritage

Il problema del palinsesto nell'opera di David Samojlov. Il caso di "Nočnoj gost'"
The reflection on writing and rewriting processes is here declined in an enquiry exploring the work of the Russian poet David Samoylov (1920-1990) through the category of the palimpsest. This category is used to metaphorically identify any text overlapping with a previous text, which is however not completely hidden, but remains visible in transparency. By illustrating some of the main ways in which the palimpsest is achieved in Samoylov’s poetic practice, it will be argued that it can be considered a proper privileged form of his writing. Through the problematic case of «Nochnoy gost’» [The Night Guest], a rather complex and polygenetic text, it will be shown that the tracks of the palimpsest do not necessarily perform a semantic-interpretive function. Therefore, an attempt will be made to reflect upon and highlight their further functions
