Pobreza multidimensional em Silveira Martins/RS: uma aplicação do Método Alkire-Foster (AF)
The Capability Approach, as proposed by Amartya Sen (1979, 1985, 1987, 1999a, 1999b), analyzes poverty beyond monetary income in considering dimensions as health, education, sanitation and others that are valued by people. From this proposal, Alkire and Foster (2007) have developed a method of measuring poverty that aggregates the various aspects of people's lives in a multidimensional measure. The objective of this study is to explore the Alkire-Foster Method (AF) and present the general measurement obtained in a study in the city of Silveira Martins (RS). The final measure revealed that people are most deprived of the freedom enjoyed in the community, access to income, employment, basic services and education, which supports the senian view that poverty is beyond monetary income. Based on the AF Method, it is possible to formulate policies aimed at the dimensions in which many people suffer more deprivation.
Contractile muscle volume and agonist-antagonist coactivation account for differences in torque between young and older women
It is controversial whether specific tension (the ratio between muscle strength and size) declines with aging. Therefore, contractile muscle volume was estimated separately from the intramuscular noncontractile tissue by magnetic resonance imaging, and maximum isometric torque was measured in the knee extensors and flexors of 10 young (22.8 +/- 5.7 years) and 10 older (69.5 +/- 2.4 years) healthy active women. Specific tension was lower in the older women both in the extensors (93.1 +/- 20.1 kN.m(-2) vs. 112.1 +/- 12.3 kN.m(-2); P < 0.05) and in the flexors (100 &PLUSMN; 31 kN.m(-2) vs. 142.7 &PLUSMN; 23.9 kN.m(-2); P < 0.01). This was accompanied by an increase in the percentage coactivation of the knee flexors during knee extension. These data suggest that the lower level of muscle torque in the older women can be explained not only by smaller contractile muscle mass but also by increased coactivation of the antagonist muscles during knee extension
#nowplaying-rs

The nowplaying-rs dataset features context- and content features of listening events. It contains 11.6 million music listening events of 139K users and 346K tracks collected from Twitter. The dataset comes with a rich set of item content features and user context features, as well as timestamps of the listening events. Moreover, some of the user context features imply the cultural origin of the users, and some others - like hashtags - give clues to the emotional state of a user underlying a listening event.

The dataset contains three files:

user_track_hashtag_timestamp.csv contains basic information about each listening event. For each listening event, we provide an id, the user_id, track_id, hashtag, created_at

context_content_features.csv: contains all context and content features. For each listening event, we provide the id of the event, user_id, track_id, artist_id, content features regarding the track mentioned in the event (instrumentalness, liveness, speechiness, danceability, valence, loudness, tempo, acousticness, energy, mode, key) and context features regarding the listening event (coordinates (as geoJSON), place (as geoJSON), geo (as geoJSON), tweet_language, created_at, user_lang, time_zone, entities contained in the tweet).

sentiment_values.csv contains sentiment information for hashtags. It contains the hashtag itself and the sentiment values gathered via four different sentiment dictionaries: AFINN, Opinion Lexicon, Sentistrength Lexicon and vader. For each of these dictionaries we list the minimum, maximum, sum and average of all sentiments of the tokens of the hashtag (if available, else we list empty values). However, as most hashtags only consist of a single token, these values are equal in most cases. Please note that the lexica are rather diverse and therefore, are able to resolve very different terms against a score. Hence, the resulting csv is rather sparse. The file contains the following comma-separated values: <hashtag, vader_min, vader_max, vader_sum,vader_avg, afinn_min, afinn_max, afinn_sum, afinn_avg, ol_min, ol_max, ol_sum, ol_avg, ss_min, ss_max, ss_sum, ss_avg >, where we abbreviate all scores gathered over the Opinion Lexicon with the prefix 'ol'. Similarly, 'ss' stands for SentiStrength.

Please note that user_track_hashtag_timestamp.csv and context_content_features.csv partly provide the same features. We deliberately chose to do so to be able to provide useable files that do not have to be matched and joined with each other to perform e.g., simple recommendation tasks.

Please also find the training and test-splits for the dataset in this repo. Also, Asmita provides prototypical implementations of a context-aware recommender system based on the dataset at https://github.com/asmitapoddar/nowplaying-RS-Music-Reco-FM.

Environmental education as tool for the sustainability in a forest fragment in Passo Fundo, Rs, Brazil
The change in living standards has been done that the contact with nature becomes extremely important to the people life quality and its harmonious relationship with the environment. The preservation of areas like forest fragments contribute to maintaining biological diversity, promote sustainable use of natural resources and foster the conditions for education. This work was developed to guide the environmental education program in a forest fragment in Passo Fundo, RS. It was done a literature review, identifying key aspects to be consider, the appointment of the potential and the problems encountered today, surveying vegetation and identification of options for developing the environmental education program. For estimate the maximum number of visits per day, was calculated the load capacity effective area. The forest survey identified 45 species, especially the native and fruit trees. Through one proposal of zoning was suggested that recomposition of the vegetation at the edges, planting new trees into it, maintaining a pristine preserved area, construction of an interpretation trail and reforestation of some areas of open field. The forest fragment is a source of biodiversity due to the large number of species and its use for environmental education is one way of ensuring the sustainability of the area
The socioeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS in Monze District, Zambia.
Zambia has one of the highest HIV
seroprevalence
rates
in
the
world, estimated
in
1995 at 17%. Rural Monze district in the
Southern
province, the
site of the
study,
has high
rates of HIV, estimated at 10-12% in 1991. During the
study, the
district
was
affected
not
only by AIDS but also by the 1991-92 drought
and
by
a
bovine
epidemic of
East Coast
Fever. This study documents the impact of
HIV
and
AIDS
on the
health
services and on
the district economy, and draws some
long term
implications for the
national economy.
At the district hospital, approximately
44%
of
inpatients
and
30%
of outpatients were
HIV seropositive as were 18% of rural
health
centre patients.
Tuberculosis,
other
respiratory
infections, and diarrhoea accounted for the
majority of
days in hospital.
The
HIV
epidemic
was found to be affecting the hospital staff
as well,
with mortality at
Monze
and
neighbouring Choma hospitals rising
from
2
per
1,000
nurse
years
in 1980 to
27 in
1991
- a
13-fold increase. Measures to increase supply,
reduce
losses,
and
make
better
use
of existing
staff are proposed. The household survey found that
while
patients
were
better
off
overall than the
district population, there was no appreciable
difference in
wealth
between
patients
with
HIV
infection and those without. HIV-positive patients
were
younger
than
HIV-negative
patients, and had fewer children. The loss
of a member with
HIV
would
cause
a rise
in the
average household's dependency ratio of
16-17%. Production
was
affected
by
HIV
disease,
with an average of 94 days' loss of labour (patients
plus carers)
in the
final
year of
life.
Implications for policy include the
need to
decentralize
care of
patients
with
HIV
disease to health centres, and to protect and make
better
use
of the
health
human
resources.
The impact of HIV/AIDS on rural production,
with
approximately
1 in 3
district
households having a member with AIDS, combined
with
external
factors
such as
removal
of
subsidies, changes in marketing processes under structural
adjustment,
and
long term
drought, makes it increasingly difficult to
eke out a
living from farming.
Combined
with the
lure of apparent employment opportunities
in
urban
areas created
by deaths
due to
AIDS,
these factors may contribute to increased urbanization,
making
it
difficult for
Zambia to
replace declining copper revenues with
increased
yields
from
agricultural production
