No full textAlcune lettere inedite ci consentono di delineare alcuni aspetti della salute del celebre tenore bergamasco Domenico Donzelli (1790-1873). Dai repertori biografici musicali si desume che egli soffrisse di gotta, ma l’osservazione viene sempre riportata incidentalmente. Alcune lettere indirizzategli da Giovanni Antonio Lorenzo Fossati (1786-1874) ci indicano, invece, quanto tale patologia fosse sofferta da Donzelli, e continuasse ad affliggerlo. Fossati, milanese, fu l’allievo prediletto di Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828) ed è considerato il propugnatore delle idee e delle discipline frenologiche. Le lettere furono scritte da Fossati allorché risiedeva a Parigi, mentre Donzelli risiedeva a Bologna. Esse sono interessanti anche a proposito della storia della terapia antigottosa, perché riportano le idee terapeutiche di Fossati e sono corredate anche da una ricetta di purgante, da assumere unitamente alla terapia specifica

A unifying theoretical scheme for gamma-ray bright blazars
No full textThe phenomenology of gamma-ray bright blazars can be accounted for by a sequence in the source power and intensity of the diffuse radiation field surrounding the relativistic jet. Correspondingly, the equilibrium particle distribution peaks at different energies. This leads to a trend in the observed properties. an increase of the observed power corresponds to: (i) a decrease in the frequencies of the synchrotron and inverse Compton peaks, and (ii) an increase in the ratio of the powers of the high- and low-energy spectral components. Objects along this sequence would be observationally classified respectively as high-frequency BL Lac objects, low-frequency BL Lac objects, high-polarization quasars and low-polarization quasars. The proposed scheme is based on the correlations among the physical parameters derived in the present paper by applying to 51 gamma-ray loud blazars two of the most accepted scenarios for the broad-band emission of blazars, namely the synchrotron self-Compton and external Compton models. This also explains the observational trends presented by Fossati et al., dealing with the spectral energy distributions of all blazars. This gives us confidence that our scheme applies to all blazars as a class

Basic emotions, attachment style and psichological distress.
No full textRecent studies have shed light on the biological foundations of Basic Emotional Systems that can be found both in animals and in human beings. The aim of our study is to reveal the associations that exist between the Basic Emotions making up part of the personality structure, the relationship-based emotional regulatory system, i.e. Attachment Style, and the influence of these on the manifestation and expression of psychological distress. Our sample consisted of 110 subjects (M = 34, F = 76) , of whom 50 suffered from a stroke and 60 suffered from bone fractures; the average age was 72.67 (SD = 11.24). Participants were administered the following questionnaires: Feeney et al.’s Attachment Style Questionnaire (Fossati et al., 2003, Jour. Soc. Pers. Rel. 20(1), 55-79) in order to assess adult attachment styles; Zigmond and Snaith’s Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (Costantini et al., 1999, Support Care Cancer. 7:121–127) in order to assess the intensity of anxiety and depression; the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scales (Davis et al., 2003, Neuro-Psychoanalysis, 5(1), 57-69) in order to evaluate the Basic Emotional Systems.
Notwithstanding the advanced age of the subjects, the analysis indicated the existence of a statistically significant relationship between the Attachment Style (ASQ) and the Basic Emotional Systems of the personality structure (ANPS). In particular, we found a positive correlation between Secure Attachment Style and positive emotions, while the Avoidant Attachment Style seemed to modulate only partly adaptive emotions and psychological distress (HADS)
Il crescente ruolo delle ideologie nella politica mondiale dopo la guerra fredda
No full textPrima dell’89, la cultura politica conservatrice era prevalente nelle diplomazie occidentali, a causa dell'influenza della filosofia realista, basata sulla propensione degli stati a difendere i propri interessi; tale orientamento continua ad essere perseguito dopo l’89. In tale fase, in occidente si stanno consolidando prassi diplomatiche orientate al soddisfacimento di valori compatibili alle ideologie liberali, della sinistra costruttivista e manichea, che prima venivano valorizzate solo nella sfera declaratoria o in modo transitorio. L’analisi ha toccato le quattro arene della governance mondiale: culturale -relativa ai conflitti fra nazioni e/o civilizzazioni diverse-, militare (opzioni sulla pace e la guerra), economica (risposte alla globalizzazione), politica (processi di democratizzazione). Alcune ipotesi sulla maggiore influenza delle ideologie dopo l’89, come il conflitto tra civilizzazioni, il mutamento del sistema internazionale, il passaggio alla post-modernità dopo il 68
