    Forti muratorista insigne

    No full text

    L'acqua negli ambienti carsici italiani

    No full text

The kind of “law &literaryre” method that has characterized for thirteen years the so-called meetings and works of "Justice and Literature" at the Catholic University of Milan, can still be said to be inspired by the question well expressed by the philosopher Roberto Esposito, in the review of the first of the nine volumes that collected the results of this experience: «What can ever connect law to literature? A deep furrow seems to separate the boundless fluidity of literary writing and the rigidity of a juridical order aimed at discriminating between licit and illicit conduct». A method that "provokes" the fluvial course of narratives by opposing the arrest of judgment - often perceived by the literary worlds in that reductive and constrictive form of thatis the administration of justice of which Leonardo Sciascia felt and branded the "terribility" - and by observing the whirlwinds and floods that that (unnatural?) interposition generates. It is by moving from such a "dialectical" view between the two areas that one can grasp at least a sense of the joint (and not simply consecutive) reading of the Promessi sposi and of the Stroia della Colonna infame by Alessandro Manzoni now unavoidable after the relatively recent "discovery" by the critics of the close relationship between the two works. And the «key to everything», for such a reading, according to Manzoni's own words, lies in the fateful «they feared they wouldn't find him guilty» which the author takes from Verri: a formidable obstruction to the fluidity of that «common sense» which « there was; but he hid for fear of common sense" and that, if he prevailed, "the matter would have been clearer.

Triangular maps with all periods and no infinite ω-limit set containing periodic points

AbstractOur main result is an example of a triangular map of the unite square, F(x,y)=(f(x),gx(y)), possessing periodic orbits of all periods and such that no infinite ω-limit set of F contains a periodic point. We also show that there is a triangular map F of type 2∞ monotone on the fibres such that any recurrent point of F is uniformly recurrent and F restricted to the set of its recurrent points is chaotic in the sense of Li and Yorke. For a continuous map φ of the interval there is a long list of more than 50 conditions characterizing zero topological entropy, including, e.g., conditions (i) φ is of type 2∞, (ii) every recurrent point of φ is uniformly recurrent, (iii) φ restricted to the set of chain recurrent points is not chaotic in the sense of Li and Yorke, (iv) no infinite ω-limit set contains a cycle. The problem presented by A.N. Sharkovsky in the eighties is to decide which of these conditions remain equivalent in the class of triangular maps. Our second example completes the results obtained, e.g., by Forti et al. (1999), Kočan (2003) and Šindelářová (2003), concerning triangular maps monotone on the fibres. The first example, with a more sophisticated proof, contributes to a more difficult problem of classification of general triangular maps, which is still not completely solved; the main partial results have been obtained by Kolyada (1992)

Lowering Rates Of Limestone Along The Western Istrian Shoreline And The Gulf Of Trieste

    No full text
This paper discusses the data on the lowering of carbonate surfaces thar have been taken from a series of measurements sires located along the shoreline of the Gulf of Trieste and of Westrern Istria, paying particular attention to the phenomena occurring in the intertidal zone. These lowering rares have also been compared with those of limestone outrcropping in the Classical Karst area. The mean lowering rare of limestones along the North Eastern Upper Adriatic Sea is approximately 0.13 mm/yr, with significant changes depending on the sire: in Trieste, the mean annual rare is 0.40 mm/yr: in the sires located along the Istrian shoreline, the mean annual rare is 0.09 mm/y

Assess the utility of the PIP-ON system in M. tb and overexpress or silence several mycobacterial genes

In this system the gene of interest is under transcriptional control of the Streptomyces Pip protein, the pristinamycin sensitive repressor. The pip gene of S. coelicolor has been cloned downstream of a constitutive mycobacterial promoter (the mutant pfurA102 of M. tb), and introduced in Mycobacterium smegmatis (see pMYS696 in Fig. 1). Furthermore, a Pip-ON system has been constructed, by cloning the S. pristinaespiralis ptr promoter upstream of a reporter gene (lacZ), in the above plasmid (see pMY718 in Fig. 1). These constructs have been introduced in M. smegmatis and beta-galactosidase activity measured: the activity expressed from pMY718 is very low (less than 10 Miller units) and inducible, in a dose dependent manner, by addition of pristinamycin
