    Critical Approaches on the Changes Taking Place after 24/2014/EU in BIM Adoption Process

    In 2014, the European Union introduced the so-called BIM at the attention of the Member States with the European Directive 24/2014/EU to spread this method throughout Europe. Alongside the generally recurrent motivations (education, maturity in the construction sector, technical approaches) to understand the causes of the laborious and not yet wide diffusion of BIM in Europe, this work introduces an original way that still appears not explored well enough in the current research scenario: the analysis of the correctness of the technical terms used in the native text of the ED and the translated texts in the national languages. The goal is to demonstrate that incorrect technical terms can be misunderstood and interpreted, and they move away from the specific and original contents of Charles Eastman's method. The misunderstanding of the real technical content of the legal obligation has conditioned the clarity, speed and effectiveness of the diffusion of BIM. It is necessary to include the acronym BIM in legal texts instead of the current generic expression "building information electronic modelling". The strength of the article is to recover clarity with the original indication and definition of BIM and the limit is that, in general, all laws can be interpreted

    One of the aspects that is most frequently criticised in modern architecture is the poor durability of the technological solutions opted for. At first sight, the problem looks like a purely economic one, considering that durability requires that certain requirements be fulfilled for a given period of time; therefore, we are not dealing with an absolute value, but relative to the number of years considered. This has led to the statement that the poor durability of some buildings is not necessarily a negative fact, since, if their functional service life is shorter than that of their components, they can be more conveniently demolished and rebuilt. This can however place a cost on society which is not to be underestimated, if we also look at the problem of the endurability of a building, we see that functional requirements should be conditional on durability requirements, instead of the opposite. If, therefore, we assume that durability is a reference value, it is with this that the opportunity of using technological innovation must be compared. These have always been essential tools in the history of architecture, but they have been inadequately tested so far and cannot therefore guarantee durability. In technological innovation, there is the need to make a distinction between the innovation which makes use of new materials and that which uses old materials in a new way. In the latter case, it is easier to foresee the effect that the new use will have on durability, especially when using digital simulation techniques that, by generating output in different modes, offer the opportunity to check the project in two, three, four dimensions both “in itinere” as well as from an “a priori” point of view.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.
