Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Evidence against solar influence on nuclear decay constants
The hypothesis that proximity to the Sun causes variation of decay constants at permille level has been tested and disproved. Repeated activity measurements of mono-radionuclide sources were performed over periods from 200 days up to four decades at 14 laboratories across the globe. Residuals from the exponential nuclear decay curves were inspected for annual oscillations. Systematic deviations from a purely exponential decay curve differ from one data set to another and are attributable to instabilities in the instrumentation and measurement conditions. The most stable activity measurements of alpha, beta-minus, electron capture, and beta-plus decaying sources set an upper limit of 0.0006% to 0.008% to the amplitude of annual oscillations in the decay rate. Oscillations in phase with Earth's orbital distance to the Sun could not be observed within a 10−6 to 10−5 range of precision. There are also no apparent modulations over periods of weeks or months. Consequently, there is no indication of a natural impediment against sub-permille accuracy in half-life determinations, renormalisation of activity to a distant reference date, application of nuclear dating for archaeology, geo- and cosmochronology, nor in establishing the SI unit becquerel and seeking international equivalence of activity standards. © 2016 The Author

In light of the combination of interactive fiction and RPG (role playing game), starting from the Nineties up to the very latest evolution in ARGs (alternate reality games), this contribution aims to apply some paradigms of the Reader Response Theory and Affect Theory to the analysis of the global game industry. The purpose is to frame the migration of videogames from the digital platform to the real world through its re-evaluation as a performative event and affective process, with the conjunction between empathic and ethical reflections. It means that this medium is seen as an interrelation sistem of identity representation and social integration, starting from the analysis of the receptive phenomena to which it lends itself, which are not too different from those of the literary text
Durability of Chopped FiberReinforced Polymeric Composites for use in Experimental Automotive Fuel Cells
Recent interest in utilizing hydrogen fuel cell technology for automotive applications has lead to concerns regarding the durability of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite materials. Automotive fuel cell power train systems must prove themselves as a reliable alternative to the combustion engines and automatic transmissions. The use of polymer composites in fuel cells to serve as manifolds is promising because of their high strength to weight ratio, and they do not corrode like metals manifolds. Composite materials designed for use in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cells are exposed to very high humidity environment and operated at elevated temperatures (~85°C). The susceptibility of fiber reinforced polymers to reduction in modulus, strength, and life in chemical environments has been well documented in the literature, especially at elevated temperatures.
A chopped carbon fiber epoxy composite (Material A) and a chopped glass fiber epoxy composite (Material B) were exposed at 85°C to air, water, and a 50/50 water/antifreeze mixture, and periodically examined for tensile, compression, and flexural strengths at various temperatures. Following 2000 hours (83 days) of exposure, Materials A & B did not reach full saturation. Fatigue tests were conducted at various load levels and temperatures to determine their effect on cycles to failure, and carpet plots were generated. Blister formation in aged composites led to reductions in material properties as great as 25% to 75%. A mechanistic explanation was developed for the formation of blisters in the epoxy composite. Recommendations for material improvement and feasibility of material use for fuel cell manifolds and pressure plates were made.Master of Scienc
From nonequilibrium Green’s functions to quantum master equations for the density matrix and out-of-time-order correlators: Steady-state and adiabatic dynamics
We consider a finite quantum system under slow driving and weakly coupled to thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. We present a systematic derivation of the quantum master equation for the density matrix and the out-of-time-order correlators. We start from the microscopic Hamiltonian and we formulate the equations ruling the dynamics of these quantities by recourse to the Schwinger-Keldysh nonequilibrium Green’s function formalism, performing a perturbative expansion in the coupling between the system and the reservoirs. We focus on the adiabatic dynamics, which corresponds to considering the linear response in the ratio between the relaxation time due to the system-reservoir coupling and the time scale associated to the driving. We calculate the particle and energy fluxes. We illustrate the formalism in the case of a qutrit coupled to bosonic reservoirs and of a pair of interacting quantum dots attached to fermionic reservoirs, also discussing the relevance of coherent effects.Fil: Bhandari, Bibek.
