Sopravvivenza dei distretti industriali tra declino e resilienza: Il caso della Valle del Liri

    No full text
This paper, relying of the traditional tools offered by the literature on industrial districts, investigates the structural characteristics that distinguish the district system of the Liri Valley, in order to identify the existence or persistence of mechanisms that govern the production of external economies of area. Secondly, in an attempt to understand the nature and the evolutionary trajectories followed by the district system, the analysis leaves the approach of the local development theories and adopts a dynamic analysis offered by studies of strategic management. This approach uses a neo-institutional perspective of endogenous development as well as a market driven perspective

Territorial development dynamics between innovation and tradition: the case of the nautical district of Latina

In this work the dynamics of the territorial development of the district systems are analyzed, considering the territorial competition as a biological evolutionism. From this, we suggest a model aimed to explain the points of strength and weakness of the district systems, divided into three different and correlated phases, made up of structural, relational and strategic dimension. Such a model, allowing to appraise the results of desk and field analyses made on a sample of firms of the nautical local system in the Province of Latina, has underlined the existence of a meaningful identification of the district firms with the territory, promoting a “mark of area” of “Made in Latina” products and strengthening the identity of the local productive system through strategies of manufacturing and commercial cooperation among the actors of the locally individualized compartment

Stock price reaction over internationalization process: an event study on a sample of Italian medium-sized listed firms

    No full text
This study is grounded on the internationalization theories of the firm and discusses how different strategic and operational choices in the international environment can affect firm performance and thus shareholders value. The latter is based on share prices reflecting long term expectations on profits and cash flows. This contribution, by applying the event study methodology, provides detailed evidence of the value creation of different equity entry modes. The survey focuses on a sample of 96 announcements of international investments performed by Italian medium-sized firms listed on the Italian Stock Market during the years from 2000 to 2006. Our research shows a positive and significant market reaction to the announcement of internationalization strategies. The results are largely affected by the abnormal return of high-equity entry modes carried out in advanced economies. Low-equity entry modes do not show any significant market reaction as well as the international operations performed in emerging countries. According to common international evidence, we also find that the relative size of the deal accounts for the results: large deals lead to highly significant price reactions

Innovative food and sustainable consumption behaviour: the role of communication focus and consumer-related characteristics in lab-grown meat (LGM) consumption

    No full text
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate consumers' reactions to a new kind of green food product that is the so-called lab-grown meat (LGM). This kind of meat does not derive from animal or vegetal cultures but is produced on the basis of “tissue-engineering” technologies, by injecting muscle tissue from an animal into a cell culture, allowing cells to “grow” outside the animal's body. By considering the similar nutritional characteristics of traditional types of meat, and the potential in terms of sustainability, the authors investigate the effect of the advertising, communication focus promoting LGM-based meat, on consumers' willingness to buy (WTB) and word-of-mouth (WOM), by shedding light on the moderator role of consumers' environmentalism and status consumption orientation tendency in influencing such relationship. Design/methodology/approach: Through an exploratory research design, the authors conducted a study based on a two-cell experiment that manipulated the advertising communication focus by using a hamburger made of synthetic meat related to a fictitious brand called “Gnam”, to manipulate the advertising communication focus (sustainability vs. taste), then evaluating consumers' WTB, WOM, environmentalism and status consumption orientation. Findings: Results show that the communication focus (sustainability vs. taste) exerts a positive effect on consumers' WTB and WOM, and how such effect is magnified both by consumers' environmentalism and status consumption orientation, in the attempt to show other a green status and their green consumption tendency. Research limitations/implications: Despite the promising results, the study does not consider other consumers' individual differences, i.e. as for the role of age, or cultural differences. Practical implications: Practically, this study suggests marketers and managers how to design effective marketing campaigns to incentivise LGM-based food products purchase, and promote positive WOM, on the basis of certain consumers' individual differences useful to segment their clientele in terms of environmentalism, and status consumption orientation tendency. Social implications: Socially, this study may contribute to incentivising the use of alternative forms of meat as a food product not deriving from animal or vegetal culture, coherently with recent sustainability worldwide claimed goals. Originality/value: This is the first paper to investigate consumers' reactions to LGM-based food products, by shedding light on the fundamental role of consumers' individual differences

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
