No full textThe ancient Altinum, before being a Roman town, was an important town belonging to the Venetic culture. This article reviews briefly the records in the Venetic language, which consist in more than sixty votive and funerary inscriptions from sixth to second century B.C. The inscriptions show an interesting use of Venetic writing, because of the presence, joint to the local script, of the oldest Venetic alphabet and the Padua alphabet. Through the inscriptions the contact between different peoples (Veneti, Celts, Romans) is also investigated
I processi contro i ribelli della Marca anconitana durante il pontificato di Giovanni XXII
No full textIl testo indaga i nessi fra il ghibellinismo nella Marca di Ancona durante il primo trentennio del XIV secolo e la politica repressiva di Giovanni XXII. In questo periodo si assiste nella Marca al consolidarsi di una coalizione ostile al potere papale che si organizza attraverso stabili strutture di coordinamento militare, quale la Lega Amicorum Marchiae, e che agisce in modo tanto coeso come mai è dato di riscontrare nel decenni precedenti e successivi. A capo dei ghibellini figurano i principali protagonisti sulla scena storica marchigiana: Federico di Montefeltro, i fratelli osimani Guzzolini e alcune famiglie aristocratiche di Recanati loro satelliti. Il papa dopo aver condannato i ribelli con ogni sanzione civile e spirituale nel 1318 attraverso i rappresentati delle istituzioni dello Stato nella provincia ecclesiastica, decide nel 1919-20 di sferrare contro di loro una guerra senza frontiere e di sottoporre i capi ghibellini ad un processo per eresia e idolatria, celebrato dall’inquisitore francescano fra Lorenzo da Mondaino. L’eccessivo zelo e la fretta di quest’ultimo crea qualche resistenza da parte delle gerarchie minoritiche, tanto che il Ministro provinciale rimuove temporaneamente fra Lorenzo dal suo incarico. Ciò non impedisce ai processi di giungere a conclusione attraverso sentenze, oggi perdute, di piena condanna per tutti gli inquisiti. Così, alla fine del 1321 il papa fa predicare in tutta Europa la crociata contro i ribelli marchigiani e concede tutti i benefici previsti per i crociati in Terrasanta a chi avesse combattuto contro di loro. Una svolta nello scontro fra il papato e i ribelli si ha tuttavia non tanto grazie ai processi inquisitoriali bensì all’uccisione di Federico di Montefeltro avvenuta nel 1322 ad Urbino; il tirannicidio, perpetrato dal popolo, venne in realtà ordito da un emissario papale e dai nemici politici dei Montefeltro.
Uno scontro tanto aspro fra il papato e i suoi avversari politici non si era mai prodotto all’interno dei confini della Marca. Ci si interrogherà dunque sul ruolo e sugli effetti della strategia ‘oltranzista’, perseguita con tenacia da Giovanni XXII, all’interno dei processi di consolidamento dell’autorità pontificia nello Stato della Chiesa. Si noterà quindi come tale strategia si ponga in contrasto con quella sviluppata dai suoi successori nel corso il Trecento e soprattutto dall’Albornoz, il cui intervento fu teso ad arginare le forze ostili attraverso la costruzione di forme accettabili di convivenza, fino al loro riconoscimento de facto. Anche la revisione dei processi ereticali ai danni dei Guzzolini avviata nel 1335 da papa Benedetto XII e condotta non senza contrasti e resistenze dimostra il superamento delle posizioni politiche di Giovanni XXII, il cui atteggiamento di costante ostilità produsse quindi prevalentemente l’effetto di acuire la ribellione al potere pontificio nella Marca anziché il corroborarsi delle strutture di governo dello Stato
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textIn this paper, I intend to focus on aspects of the Greek presence in the northern
Adriatic, in the light of both fragments of ancient tradition and more recent insights
into Mediterranean mobility, the notion of the periphery, and the ancient landscape.
The rigid image of a clear-cut partition between the city center, cultivated land,
and unproductive margins have now been replaced by a more articulated landscape
with forests, marshes, and lagoons contributing to the economic and cultural life
of the ancient communities. The following review of ancient sources highlights the
geographic and human network connecting the lagoon (of actual Venice) and the
wide area of the Delta. The more important greek community in this region lived in
Adria, a crucial center for greek commerce, particularly between the 6th and the first
half of the 5th century. The Greeks didn’t abandon the North Adriatic region even
when their presence in Adria seems to have become rarefied. Ancient traditions
on the Adriatic colonies of Dionysius of Syracuse, on the so-called fossa Philistina,
and the Spartan Cleimonus are fragmentary and difficult to explain, but they allow
us to retrace ancient trade routes and political interests. In sum, the Lagoon and
