Why did modern trade fairs appear?

According to our interpretation, modern trade fairs started in Europe during the First World War and in its immediate aftermath. With the closing of trade movements during the war, many cities had to resort to the old medieval tradition of providing especial permits to traders to guarantee them personal protection during their trade meetings. During the tough post war crisis many more cities –typically industrial districts- discovered in the creation of trade fairs a powerful competitive tool to attract market transactions. We compare these developments with the remote origins of fairs, as, in both cases, trade fair development is a reaction to the closing of free markets under the pressure of political violence.Trade fairs, modern trade fairs, markets, industrial districts, international trade, First World War

Privacy Preserving and Data Mining in an On-Line Statistical Database of Additive Type

    No full text
In an on-line statistical database, the query-answering system should prevent answers to statistical queries from leading to disclosure of confidential data. On the other hand, a statistical user is inclined to data mining, that is, to disclose pieces of information that are implicit in the (explicit) answers to his queries. A key task for both is to find data that is derivable from given summary statistics. We show that this task is easy if data is additive and the set of given summary statistics can be modelled by a graph

Generalized F-spaces through the lens of fuzzy measures

    No full text
Probabilistic metric spaces are natural extensions of metric spaces, where the function that computes the distance outputs a distribution on the real numbers rather than a single value. Such a function is called a distribution function. F-spaces are constructions for probabilistic metric spaces, where the distribution functions are built for functions that map from a measurable space to a metric space. In this paper, we propose an extension of F-spaces, called Generalized F-space. This construction replaces the metric space with a probabilistic metric space and uses fuzzy measures to evaluate sets of elements whose distances are probability distributions. We present several results that establish connections between the properties of the constructed space and specific fuzzy measures under particular triangular norms. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the space can be applied in machine learning to compute distances between different classifier models. Experimental results based on Sugeno λ-measures are consistent with our theoretical findings

Contextual algorithm for decision of fuzzy estimation problems with network-like structure of criteria on the basis of fuzzy measures Sugeno

In this article the algorithm for the decision of alternatives' estimation problems for following conditions is considered. Values of alternative's characteristics (properties) are fuzzy. They are formalized as fuzzy sets. The estimation criteria structure is network-like and is formalized as the oriented graph with one source and many drains. The alternative's estimation result is calculated in criterion-source. Connections between criteria are formalized by fuzzy measures Sugeno. Upper-level criteria are considered as contexts for lower-level criteria. Fuzzy integrals Sugeno or Choquet are used as aggregation operator. In article also the properties of fuzzy measure and fuzzy integrals (Sugeno and Choquet) are analyzed. Properties of fuzzy measure and integrals are comparing with properties of other mathematical tools. As example the car's estimation problem is presented.fuzzy measure (Sugeno); fuzzy integral (Sugeno and Choquet); alternatives estimation; criteria structure
