"L'Emilia-Romagna non è un'isola rossa. E non vuole esserlo". L'immagine documentaria dell'Emilia-Romagna.
Coco Rebecca Edogamhe: A Very Ordinary Girl
The work of Coco Rebecca Edogamhe (born 2001) is unique and relevant case study due to three interdependent factors: her young age and short acting experience, which allow us to observe the construction of professional narratives and practices from scratch; her debut in a leading role without prior acting training, which led her to interpret the set as a school; her identity as an Italian of Afro-descent, which places her at the centre of the debate on diversity and representation. While acknowledging her exceptional profile, she also makes a constant shift towards the notion of 'ordinary', proposing a nuanced and everyday model of celebrity, suitable for both television and digital media. Crucial to all this was the casting process, the debut during the Covid-19 pandemic, and her mirroring in the part of summer in 'Summertime' (Netflix 2020-2022). In this essay, press interviews and an in-depth dialogue between the author and the actress will interact diachronically to capture the main trajectories through which Edogamhe negotiated her public identity and began to build her professional culture
Beppe Caschetto: How a Talent Agent Can Build a Film and Television Performer
Beppe Caschetto is one of the most important and influential figures in the Italian film, television and media sector. With his talent agency, he has created, sustained, and shaped many successful Italian performing careers, taking a systemic approach to actors’ personal and professional development. He has helped them to transcend the boundaries between film and television and between fiction and entertainment, and to build enduring profiles on the national media and entertainment scene, often managing “packages” of talents that leverage his star names’ strengths to develop or support other professionals. With his production company, he builds media products around his portfolio of performers and enjoys an increasingly significant share of Italy’s audiovisual production pie. Through Caschetto’s rare interviews (he is not a public figure and eschews the limelight), this chapter fleshes out his profile as a key intermediary and investigates the roles and skills he has mastered in managing his acting talent in Italy’s contemporary media landscape
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Caterina Murino: Global Ambitions, Italian Roots
Native Italian actress Caterina Murino boasts an experience of more than 20 years in the field of television and film production, as well as theater and special events hosting. Beginning with her participation in the Miss Italia beauty pageant in 1997, her career reveals a constant tension between locally based works and the engagement in multilingual projects—occasionally global hits—across all continents. Such an (ostentatious) versatility has led Murino to a unique positioning within the national star system, even at the expense of minor exposure to the Italian small screen, which somehow became her personal way to success. Thanks also to an original interview, this chapter profiles and reconstructs the actorial background of Murino, her polyhedric professional trajectories, and her multiple relationships with media, focusing on the various geographic levels implied
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
