A low energy ion beamline for TwinEBIS
A low energy beamline has been designed for the TwinEBIS setup. The beamline will be used to transport ions extracted from the electron beam ion source into an accelerating radio frequency quadrupole or into secondary devices, like a time of flight-mass spectrometer, attached to the beamline via a fast three way

Charge breeding of CO beams at REX-ISOLDE
The β+ emitter 11C is a possible treatment ion for hadron therapy owing to its excellent properties in PET imaging, which could be used for range verification during the treatment. A charge breeder is required to transform the molecular CO+ beam, coming from an ISOL-production stage (Isotope Separation OnLine), to Cn+ and to match it with the acceptance of the medical accelerator. At REX-ISOLDE we have tested charge breeding of stable, molecular 13CO+ beams. Efficiencies for the normal REX operation scheme including a Penning trap and an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) as well as for continuous injection into the EBIS without prior cooling and bunching in the trap are presented. We have in more detail explored molecular break-up in the buffer gas of the Penning trap and loss-mechanisms in the EBIS. Several 107 C6+ ions per pulse could be extracted, however, based on the present measurements, we also discuss possibilities for the future to increase the output and efficiency of the charge breeder

The TwinEBIS setup: Machine description
International audienceTwinEBIS is an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) recently made operational at CERN. The device is similar in construction to the REXEBIS charge breeder operating at the ISOLDE facility. After relocation of the solenoid from the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory (MSL) Stockholm, TwinEBIS was commissioned at CERN and serves as a test bench dedicated to manipulation of low-energy highly charged ions. In this paper we give an overview of the setup and present advanced numerical simulations of the electron optics. In addition, the alignment procedure of the solenoid magnetic field is described and measurement results are presented. Results from cathode investigations, electron beam tests and ion extraction modulation are presented in a follow-up paper
Challenges in C charge breeding
In this paper we discuss the possibilities of using a charge breeding scheme based on an Electron Beam Ion Source for beam preparation of a radioactive C beam for hadron therapy. Test measurements under extreme operating conditions were conducted at the REX-ISOLDE facility to explore the limitations of the charge breeder for high-intensity, low-repetition-rate, molecular CO beams. Based on our findings, we discuss different possible scenarios of coupling a charge breeder with either a medical synchrotron or linear accelerator. MEDeGUN commissioning results
MEDeGUN [1] is an electron gun to be used in an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) designed to serve as C6+ source for LINAC-based 2nd generation hadron therapy facilities [2]. The latter require short pulses of at least 1*108 particles at a repetition rate of 400 Hz, which exceeds the possibilities of currently used electron cyclotron resonance ion sources (ECRIS) and EBISes. The design of MEDeGUN is based on a combination of electrostatic and magnetic compression, which is commonly referred to as Brillouin gun. As previous devices have shown, it is difficult to achieve the design goals in this configuration due to the high sensitivity of the electron beam to any field imperfection. Therefore, the number of interfaces between the cathode, Wehnelt and anode electrodes have been reduced to only two in our design. In spring 2017, the MEDeGUN assembly was installed at the TwinEBIS test bench at CERN [3]. We have since then propagated an electron beam of more than 1 A at 10 keV electron energy through the 2T solenoid with losses of less than 1 mA. H and tH associated production, using 138 fb−1 of data collected in proton-proton collisions at

= 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The study targets events where the H boson decays via H → WW or H → ττ and the top quarks decay via t → Wb: the W bosons decay either leptonically or hadronically, and final states characterized by the presence of at least two leptons are studied. Machine learning techniques are applied to these final states to enhance the separation of CP -even from CP -odd scenarios. Two-dimensional confidence regions are set on κt and
κ
~
t, which are respectively defined as the CP -even and CP -odd top-Higgs Yukawa coupling modifiers. No significant fractional CP -odd contributions, parameterized by the quantity |

Time resolution studies of Timepix3 assemblies with thin silicon pixel sensors
Timepix3 is a multi-purpose readout ASIC for hybrid pixel detectors. It can measure time and amplitude simultaneously by employing time-of-arrival (ToA) and time-over-threshold (ToT) techniques. Both methods are systematically affected by timewalk. In this paper, a method for pixel-by-pixel calibration of the time response is presented. Assemblies of Timepix3 ASICs bump-bonded to thin planar silicon pixel sensors with thicknesses of 50 μ m, 100 μ m and 150 μ m are calibrated and characterised in particle beams. For minimum ionising particles, time resolutions down to 0.72 ± 0.04 ns are achieved
Measurement of the dependence of the hadron production fraction ratios <i>f<sub>s</sub></i>/<i>f<sub>u</sub></i> and <i>f<sub>d</sub></i>/<i>f<sub>u</sub></i> on <i>B</i> meson kinematic variables in proton-proton collisions at 1a<i>s</i>=13 TeV
Abstract: The dependence of the ratio between the B-s(0) and B+ hadron production fractions, f(s)/f(u), on the transverse momentum (p(T)) and rapidity of the B mesons is studied using the decay channels B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B+ -> J/psi K+. The analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 61.6 fb(-1). The f(s)/f(u) ratio is observed to depend on the B p(T) and to be consistent with becoming asymptotically constant at large p(T). No rapidity dependence is observed. The ratio of the B-0 to B+ meson production fractions, f(d)/f(u), is also measured, for the first time in proton-proton collisions, using the B-0 -> J/psi K*(0) decay channel. The result is found to be within 1 standard deviation of unity and independent of p(T) and rapidity, as expected from isospin invariance
