O que buscam os fora-da-estrada?: um estudo sociológico sobre o consumo de carros off-road
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia Política, Florianópolis, 2010O presente trabalho busca compreender, em termos sociológicos, o que motiva os brasileiros a optarem por carros fora-da-estrada. Esse nicho de mercado vem crescendo consideravelmente nos últimos dez anos, tanto em números de venda, quanto na quantidade de modelos que se enquadram nessa classificação. Buscou-se aqui, a partir de entrevistas com os próprios consumidores desses veículos, identificar as relações sociais que se dão a partir dessas escolhas de consumo. O embasamento teórico se constitui a partir de conceitos e críticas oriundas da Nova Sociologia Econômica, com destaque para a obra de Viviana Zelizer. Paralelamente, as contribuições de Alan Warde, que aproximam a teoria das práticas da Sociologia do Consumo, também foram importantes como referencial da pesquisa. Por fim, foi possível constatar que esses consumidores se importam mais com fatores como conforto, segurança e poder, do que com as potencialidades fora-da-estrada propriamente ditas. Logo, a escolha por esses carros te mais a ver com a forma de se relacionar com os outros indivíduos do que com um uso autêntico fora-da-estrada

Heuristic Schelling: economy of organized crime
No full textThis article proposes a reading of the armed conflict from an evolutionary design that takes into account the concept of private protection agencies in the works of Schelling. Their aim is to assess the dynamics of conflict and changes from its author's scientific output. A context of conflicts that includes new expressions of violence and the relative failure of the paramilitary reintegration involves using new analytical models (argumentation, game theory and inconsistent information). The recent evolution of emerging gangs and their expansion into areas that were paramilitary camps requires monitoring not only of the government and the authorities, but those investigating the conflict in the present tense. The author provides heuristic research support from Schelling’s theory of strategy, recent contributions to the relationship between organized crime and drug cartels.Colombia, Government, Civil War, Latin America, Security, Protection Agencies.

No full textOn the American reception of the European tradition: Ezequiel Martínez Estrada and Jorge Luis BorgesThe aim of this paper is to confront the opinions of Ezequiel Martínez Estrada and Jorge Luis Borges, the two most significant Argentinian essayists of the 20th century, concerning American reception of the European cultural tradition. Both the convergences and the divergences between them are underlined. Although Martínez Estrada and Borges converge in criticism of their writings, fictional and non-fictional, a narrow nationalistic view of culture and literature — defending a more cosmopolitan stance — at the same time they diverge strongly about the more specific role that literature should play in modern Argentina and Latin-American societies.
