Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Library collection management practices, problems and needs of Chin Christian University Library: A basis for a proposed collection development policy
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis research study was conducted to determine the library collection management practices, problems and needs of Chin Christian University library. Specifically the study aimed to: 1) determine the collection management practices of faculty, administrators, librarians and students in Chin Christian University Library in terms of: selection and acquisition, funding sources, deselection, maintenance networking and resource sharing, and intellectual freedom and censorship; 2) examine the problems encountered in the implementation of the collection management process by the faculty, administrators, librarians and students; 3) identify the collection needs of faculty, administrators, librarians and students ; and 4) formulate a Collection Management Policy based on the findings of the study.
The research involved 3 librarians, 15 faculty/ administrators and 200 students. Data were collected through administration of questionnaires conduct of interview with library staff and examination of library reports and procedural manual.
The finding of the study were as the following: the collection management practices of CCU library were not clearly drawn and the faculty, librarians and students were not able to carry out well. The finding involvement of the faculty/administrators were more on the selection of library materials and less on censorship for the faculty. Thexii involvement of the librarians were more on in the deselection of materials they were least involved in budget preparation, while the students were more involved in the selection of the library materials. The collection needs of the faculty, librarians and students include electronic resources, serials, and non-print and print materials. The problems encountered by the librarians were high price of materials, lack of time for deselection, lack of conservation facilities for the maintenance of materials, librarian's limited involvement in networking and their lack of knowledge on censorship and intellectual freedom. Among the problems experienced by the faculty/administrators were lack of guidelines and lack of knowledge about resource sharing and censorship. The problems of the faculty and the students were the price of materials and scarcity of titles needed, as well as the lack of selection criteria and out of print materials.
Based on the results of this study, a newly formulated collection management policy is needed; and the faculty/administrators, librarians and students with less involvement in the collection management practices should be encouraged to participate in collection management activities.

Faculty members’ awareness, attitudes and extent of involvement on the collection development of Kothabyu Theological Seminary library
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study investigates the awareness on the collection development among faculty members of Kothabyu Theological Seminary library. This study aimed to determine and analyze the awareness, attitude and extent of involvement of faculty members on the library collection development. Furthermore, this study determined the awareness and attitude of the faculty members in the performance of their roles and functions as well as their extent of involvement on the library collection development. This is descriptive study that involved documentary analysis and survey design. The sample population of consisted thirty (30) faculty members were from Kothabyu Theological Seminary. The data were gathered using the researcher- constructed questionnaire. The SPSS for windows version 23 was used in data processing and analysis.
Frequency, distribution and Means were used to describe the respondents’ awareness, attitude and extent of involvement in library collection development.
The study found out that faculty members were aware and have positive attitude towards on library collection development of the Kothabyu Theological Seminary. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Records management and archival practices at Central Philippine University: A basis for a proposal for an archival program to establish the University Archives
Get PDFAbstract onlyRecords management seeks to efficiently and systematically control the lifecycle of records that are routinely generated as a result of activities and transactions. Records are a vital asset in ensuring that the institution is governed effectively and efficiently, and is accountable to its staff, students and the community that it serves. Records support decision-making, organize documents, provide evidence of policies, decisions, transactions and activities, and support the university in cases of litigation. There have been many instances at the Central Philippine University whereby records were reported to be misplaced or missing thus raising a question on how are records managed and what system and policies are used in terms of records management. This special paper sought to investigate the status of records management at Central Philippine University. The study used the survey research method, with the questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The study targeted both administrative and academic (staff/secretary) employees at the Central Philippine University. Purposive sampling was used to select 20 administrative offices and 3 academic department offices, resulting in a total of 23 respondents.
The findings revealed that the Central Philippine University still has a long way to go with respect to day-today records management. No formal records management system was identified at Central Philippine University. There also appeared to be no specific policy for records management. There were no qualified records management practitioners at the Central Philippine University, even though there are employees who are hired by the university as so-called 'records officers'. A proposed collaboration for United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) seminary libraries in the Visayas-Mindanao area
No full textAbstract onlyThis study aimed to propose a library resource collaboration for theological education and leadership among UCCP seminary libraries in the Visayas-Mindanao area. Specifically it answered the following questions: a) What are the available resources and services of each library? b) What are the resources and services that each library receives and shares with other libraries? c) What services that each library receives for UCCP and other institutions? and d) What facilitates and constrains in sharing and receiving library resources and services.
Findings showed that resources are mostly available except in few areas such as the newly emerged topics and disciplines in theology, resources in the national language and locally- produced materials. Sharing practices are common among libraries but constraints are reasonable to some libraries due to geographical distances, lack of technology and lack in programs for collaborative activities.
From the study, it is recommended that a library collaboration model or system for the five UCCP theological libraries in the Visayas and Mindanao area be established. A memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the proposed project be provided in support of the UCCP one-seminary system which will focus on taking advantage of the benefits of information technology in sharing the resources, in the collection of locally-produced materials in different formats, in bibliographic sharing and in seminars and trainings in theological librarianship thru linkages with other organization.Includes bibliographical refencesMaster of Library and Information Science with specialization in Theological Librarianshi
