Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Doctoral Thesis in Marketing and StrategyOver the last decades scholars and professionals from a variety of academic backgrounds, have
revealed an increasing interest in analysing and explaining ethical decision making. Indeed, ethical
decisions are not only some of the most serious, complex and difficult decisions that individuals
make, but also an imperative economic and social issue all around the globe. When applied to the
consumer context, understanding why individuals think, decide and act ethically – or unethically –
remains one of the most relevant and fascinating topics in the current marketing research agenda,
in a bid to deepen our understanding of how ethical decisions are formed and why individuals
sometimes behave ethically and other times do not. Despite the significant conceptual and
empirical advances in consumer ethics attempting to find answers to these questions, relatively
little is known about the intuitive, automatic and often unconscious side of consumer ethical
decisions. This research aims to fill this gap by examining the integrated role of emotions on
consumer ethical decision making. This refers to both positive and negative emotions; individual
and valence-based ones; anticipated emotions and those being experienced “right now”; as
antecedents and outcomes; and as sufficient and necessary to consumer ethical decisions. Five
different studies involving over 1.100 individuals in total were carried out – two using qualitative
methods and three using quantitative approaches – and the findings assign a central role to
emotions in explaining and predicting consumer ethics. The main results show that, more than
sufficient, emotions are necessary to consumer ethical decisions and behaviours. Furthermore,
when anticipated, negative emotions exert a higher influence on consumer ethical judgments and
actions than positive ones, such that ethically favourable decisions emerge to prevent the
experience of negative emotions in the future. On the other hand, when evaluated at the time of
decision making, it is positive emotions that are the most significant predictor of consumer ethical
decisions, which, in turn, favour positive post-decision emotions – thus creating a “virtuous ethical
cycle”. These contributions are relevant for academics, managers and policy makers looking to
develop more effective marketing efforts – whole campaigns and/or communication messages –
to promote ethical consumer behaviours and prevent unethical choices. Rather than getting
individuals to “think now and ahead”, the effort of marketing professionals should be to get them
to “feel now and ahead”. This can be very useful, for instance, when promoting consumer ethical
behaviours in the social, economic and environmental domains.
The role of natural light in consumer responses: an experimental study applied to commercial environments
The unique environment of shopping malls contributes to these establishments being considered an essential stop in the daily lives of many consumers, often associated with the search for intrinsic and hedonic satisfaction. Ensuring an efficient choice and use of the atmospheric elements that make up the environment will make the consumption experience more pleasant for visitors, stimulated by the distinctive appearance of the commercial space. Certain elements present themselves with the ability to create an atmosphere capable of attracting and retaining customers, positioning the location as the preferred shopping destination. Therefore, it is essential to continuously seek ways to enhance customer experience. Despite the growing recognition of experiential elements in the retail environment, there is a lack of research that captures the impact of natural light on the consumer experience. When used as the predominant light source, it offers potential benefits for creating a welcoming and pleasant environment, promoting a differentiated and interactive shopping experience, and is expected to lead to more positive marketing results. This study aims to address this gap by investigating the role of natural light as the predominant atmospheric stimulus in shopping malls. The underlying premise is that the effects of natural light influence the perception of the environment, triggering internal and behavioral responses in visitors. In this sense, the objective is to evaluate the existence and intensity of these effects on the internal states of consumers and, consequently, to analyze their impact on behavioral responses in the context of shopping malls. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the cognitive, experiential, and emotional dimensions that integrate the Organism, within the S-O-R model. This paradigm allows for exploring the relationship between natural light and consumer behavioral responses, based on two experimental scenarios: images with no natural light vs. images with natural light. Through self-administered questionnaires, information was gathered regarding the perspective of X consumers, whose responses were analyzed using the SPSS software, incorporating reliability measures to ensure rigor in the quantitative approach. The results confirm that the perception of the shopping center's atmosphere, influenced by the presence of natural light, impacts the shopping experience and the consumer's internal states, subsequently influencing behavioral intentions. The study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of natural light in creating attractive and stimulating retail environments
FROM IN-PERSON TO TELEMEDICINE: FACTORS INFLUENCING PATIENTS’ TELEMEDICINE USAGE INTENTION AT VIGO MEIXOEIRO HOSPITAL.
Desta
saúde, incluindo o diagnóstico, a implementação e a manutenção do tratamento.
A análise
reumatologia do Hospital Vigo Meixoeiro
