No full textIn an aging society, maintaining longevity, mobility, and cognitive and physical health is of utmost importance. The Marymount University Center for Optimal Aging (MCOA), located in the heart of Arlington, VA, which was named by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as one of ‘America’s Fittest Cities’ on seven following consecutive years, provides a unique opportunity to deliver timely, proactive, and interdisciplinary community-based health programs that are accessible to all community-dwelling older adults. In addition, the MCOA has the potential to contribute to the field of precision medicine by studying key health risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease as well as unmet health needs of our older adults in key community areas. In an innovative interdisciplinary collaboration between the Center for Optimal Aging and many academic programs within Marymount University (MU) such as Physical Therapy, Health and Human Performance, Health Economics, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, and Biomechanical Engineering, our team is launching the “Arlington Longitudinal Optimal Healthy Aging Study (ALOHA): A Passport to Wellness.” This research program has an interdisciplinary health risk factor management-to-wellness framework to address multiple dimensions of health and manage health risk factors to best support older adults in the DMV area aging well and in place.
The study team will also work closely with MU students, following the academic professional preparation model, Interprofessional Education and Development (IPED), which has been widely used to train health sciences students to value and learn how to work as a team to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. MU students from multiple health profession disciplines will learn hands-on research skills and gain experience working with older adults, supporting their careers, and contributing to a national need for an expanded gerontological workforce

Junior Shaylen Crook led this group after recording a time of 17:21.17 to claim 59th. Senior Kate Stringfellow finished second for the Utes and 64th overall with a time of 17:25.34. Jocelyn Todd also competed for the Utes, placing 67th overall with a time of 17:29.19. Sarah Feeny led the Utah track and field team at the Husky Classic on Saturday, as she broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run. Feeny\u27s time of 9:13.87 in the 3,000 broke a 33-year-old school record, previously held by Jill Molen (9:15.81 aa). She finished 21st overall. Senior Nikki Rietz crossed the finish line in 69th with a time of 9:49.19. Becky Sarmiento placed 74th (10:00.56). Jessica Sams competed unattached, recording a time of 9:38.79 for 60th. The 800-meter run featured two Utes competing. Leading the charge for the Utes was senior Ali Eisenbeiss, capturing 20th overall with a time of 2:08.63. Allison Aafedt placed 42nd with a personal-best time of 2:12.91. Senior Andrea Chavez competed unattached and placed 14th overall. Chavez\u27s time of 2:05.19 was fast enough to qualify her for the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships later this year. Grace Engund also competed unattached, where she recorded a personal-best time of 2:11.70 for 33rd. In the mile, Hannah McInturff claimed 29th with a time of 4:50.53. Sadie Wassum recorded another Utah personal best with a time of 4:57.23 for 53rd.
