‘Everyone in School’: The Effects of Compulsory Schooling Age on Drop-out and Completion Rates
Everyone in school: The effects of compulsory schooling age on drop‐out and completion rates
This article analyses the effect of the Berlinguer reform that was introduced in Italy in 1999 and increased compulsory schooling from eight to nine years. Hence, students had to attend school until the age of 15 instead of 14 that was required at the time and therefore to attend at least one year of upper secondary school (for pupils with a regular career). Using data from the Labour Force Surveys (1993–2010) and applying counterfactual time series and segmented regressions, we evaluate the effect of the reform on attendance and graduation rates. The results show that prolonging compulsory education encouraged a larger share of 16‐year‐olds to stay in school, especially those who were judged more at risk with less educated parents and with parents with a low occupational status. However, at age 17, part of the effect had already vanished and no effect was found on graduation rates. The compulsory schooling policy may have been more effective in adjusting the legislation to already existing student behaviour than in producing relevant changes in educational decisions
Marcantonio Raimondi e i nordici
In this article the author proposes an overall reconsideration of the relationships of Marcantonio Raimondi with the Nordic engravers, paying constant attention to the surviving sources. Furthermore, a new analysis of some passages from the Vita di Marcantonio Bolognese, e d’altri intagliatori di stampe by Giorgio Vasari has allowed a different interpretation of the Italian reception of some prints by Lucas van Leyden as well as of the Portrait of Pietro Aretino executed by Marcantonio: one of the masterpieces of European Renaissance engraving, which, for the first time, is being read here in the light of knowledge of a genre of portraiture emerged in Norhtern Europe in the early 1500s, that combines bust portraits with elegant Latin (and Greek) epigraphs - very significative for Marcantonio has been some famous engravings by Albrecht Dürer
Eric Weil: Morale e Politica
With this contribution I propose to rediscover the value of Weilian political and moral the thought. To this end, I will divide my essay in two parts: the first, in which I will refer to the re-interpretation of Aristotelian thought developed by the author; a second in which I will try to highlight those characteristics of modern society that Weil always kept in mind, through original reconciliation of Kantian and Hegelian thought. The issue is that the author did not cease to make dialogue with those of the ancient world: the Weilian thought, then, cannot no open itself to an essentially meta-philosophical perspective
Un profilo di Giuseppe Raimondi (1898-1985)
This paper provides some information about Giuseppe Raimondi (1898-1985) and his literary work. The social and cultural context in which he lived and worked is analyse in order to carry out a short critical biography, based on chronology. His activity as collaborator of many literary and artistic journals gave Raimondi the opportunity to meet some famous poets and painters. Actually, his letters are considered as important documents about the Italian culture during the first part of 20th century. However, his books are also interesting, even though they are less read and studied. Raimondi’s works often talk about memories, but they deal with art and literature too. The article particularly focuses on the novel Giuseppe in Italia, but it also adds a comment to other texts. Finally, a synthetic overview on the latest research about the author is provided for further reading
The Author investigates, within the more general system of the Italian industrial relations, the tendency, which has been recorded for a decade, for trade union associations to negotiate with local authorities
on the content of administrative measures to meet the new social needs of the population on a territorial basis. Through this type of bargaining, known as social bargaining, trade unions play a representative role that differs from the traditional category-based one, aimed at influencing local authorities in the definition of welfare policies, as well as budget and administrative transparency and innovation
THE STRUCTURE OF SOIL CADASTRE. A MODEL OF SOIL INVENTORY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND TAXATION PURPOSES IN A GLOBALISED MARKET
The author shows the development of a structure, derived from the processing and integration of Ground Cadastre, where all soil characteristics are described. The soil is considered as divided according to the updated concept of cadastral parcel (soil and topographic uniformity of ownership and municipality). The land use is also assessed with reference to sustainability, taxation and environmental risk prevention. The structure of Soil Cadastre can contribute to the bureaucratic simplification of agricultural policies and environmental emergencies, as well as product presentation and traceability.
After a preliminary description of the activity carried out by the digital platforms, now increasingly able to “photograph” and satisfy the choices of the consumers, the Author reconstructs the open debate animating both the tenet and the law. The Author believes that the problem of what legal protections are appointed to the digital provider has to be took on by means of the analysis of the relationship instituting between the worker and the user of the platforms. In other words, it depends on the role assumed by the digital platform, because the article 2094 of the Civil Code can be interpreted in elastic way, but it is not possible to attribute the quality of the employer to who, in the facts, does not practice any power with respect to the work provider. In practice, the objective condition of economic dependence by a platform cannot automatically translate in technical-functional subordination to an employer. Therefore, in light of the intervention of the legislator who has extended to the autonomous workers the typical institutions of the dependent work, it is possible to suggest a different interpretation. It emerges that the very maintenance of the notion of subordination as an efficient factor in the selection of protections is failing; therefore, in all likelihood, overcoming the dichotomy dependent/autonomous work, without resorting to intermediate categories, can represent the more advisable and coherent way to the planning of our Constitutional Chart. Considering the continue evolution of the work organization systems, starting from the identification of a focal point of the fundamental legal protections common to all workers, it could be useful to think over a labor law without adjectives and to grade the legal protections by considering both the economic dependence degree and the different subjugation to the entrepreneur’s power
Thanks to a new analysis of some passages from the Life of Marcantonio Raimondi, both in the printed version of Felsina pittrice and in the manuscript submitted by Carlo Cesare Malvasia in 1677 to the approval of the Inquisition, the author proposes a more complete evaluation of the role that Malvasia recognizes to Albrecht Dürer, with new considerations on the autography of his prints, on their importance in the artistic training of Marcantonio Raimondi, on their widespread collecting in Bologna shortly after the mid-seventeenth century
The intent of my article is to show how Hegel’s Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts sets the concept of identity as not separable from that of relationship. The key terms connected to these two concepts will be those of recognition and dialectic. All this will be made clear through an analysis of the condition of civil society and of that struggle for self-recognition, which the author has constantly referred to within the fourth chapter of the Phänomenologie des Geistes. Only with the dimension of concrete struggle, and that of real and objective contradiction within modern society, can the concept of identity be discovered in its unambiguous and non-abstract form. The dialectic of the world history will remain a decisive factor: the ethical identity embodied by the State (which preserves and promotes the moment of difference) must be reaffirmed outside and beyond of Itself
