Characterisation of PZT thin film micro-actuators using a silicon micro-force sensor
This paper reports on the measurements of displacement and blocking force of piezoelectric micro-cantilevers. The free displacement was studied using a surface profiler and a laser vibrometer. The experimental data were compared with an analytical model which showed that the PZT thin film has a Young's modulus of 110 GPa and a piezoelectric coefficient d31,f of 30 pC/N. The blocking force was investigated by means of a micro-machined silicon force sensor based on the silicon piezoresistive effect. The generated force was detected by measuring a change in voltage within a piezoresistors bridge. The sensor was calibrated using a commercial nano-indenter as a force and displacement standard. Application of the method showed that a 700 μm long micro-cantilever showed a maximum displacement of 800 nm and a blocking force of 0.1 mN at an actuation voltage of 5 V, within experimental error of the theoretical predictions based on the known piezoelectric and elastic properties of the PZT film

An investigation of the oncogenic potential and function of the dual specificity phosphatase 12
Doctor of PhilosophyDepartment of BiologyAlexander E. BeeserLarge-scale genomic approaches have demonstrated many atypical dual specificity
phosphatases (DUSPs) are differentially expressed or mutated in cancer. DUSPs are proteins
predicted to have the ability to dephosphorylate Ser/Thr and Tyr residues, and the atypical DUSP
subgroup contains at least 16 members with diverse substrates that include proteins, nucleic
acids, and sugars, and some of the atypical DUSPs function in the cell not as phosphatases but as
scaffolds in signal transduction pathways. Of the atypical DUSPs, DUSP12 is one of the most
evolutionarily conserved with homologs found in organisms ranging from yeast to humans.
DUSP12 is of particular interest as it has been identified to be one of only two candidate genes
for the target of a genetic amplification found in liposarcomas. Furthermore, DUSP12 may be an
oncogene in that over-expression of dusp12 in cell culture promotes apoptosis resistance, cell
motility, and the up-regulation of two established oncogenes, the hepatocyte growth factor
receptor (c-met) and integrin alpha 1 (itga1). Additionally, DUSP12 may protect from apoptosis
by functioning as a regulator of stress-induced translation repression and stress granule formation
that may be due to its interaction with the DEAD Box RNA Helicase, DDX3
Maintaining and Monitoring AIOps Models Against Concept Drift
AIOps solutions enable faster discovery of failures in operational large-scale systems through machine learning models trained on operation data. These models become outdated during the occurrence of concept drift, a term used to describe shifts in data distributions. In operation data concept drift is inevitable and it impacts the performance of AIOps solutions over time. Therefore, concept drift should be closely monitored and immediate maintenance to prevent erroneous predictions is required. In this work, we propose an automated maintenance pipeline for AIOps models that monitors the occurrence of concept drift and chooses the most appropriate model retraining technique according to the drift type.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Software EngineeringData-Intensive SystemsSoftware Technolog
Investigating the causes of reading comprehension failure: the comprehension-age match design.
The reading-level (or reading-age) match design has become a widely-used tool for investigating the possible direction of the relation between particular skills and word reading ability: Cause or consequence. This paper outlines an analogous method for identifying candidate causes of reading comprehension failure, the ‘comprehension-age match design’ and discusses the strengths and limitations of this design
C. Howard Tripp and brewery management: the emergence of service sector management 1850–1914
1892 saw the publication of Brewery Management by C. Howard Tripp, the first book in the sector to address problems of management, as opposed to the technical problems of brewing. This article explores the growth of management knowledge in this sector, correcting the tendency to focus on manufacturing when exploring the roots of management. An examination of Tripp's account also indicates some of the barriers to the spread of management practices. The analysis, informed by institutionalist perspectives, suggests that we pay careful attention to the structural and cultural influences on management practices

High diagnostic yield of tuberculosis from screening urine samples from HIV-infected patients with advanced immunodeficiency using the Xpert MTB/RIF assay.
: ABSTRACT:: We determined the diagnostic yield of the Xpert MTB/RIF assay for tuberculosis (TB) when testing small volumes of urine from ambulatory HIV-infected patients prior to starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) in South Africa. Compared to a gold standard of sputum culture, the sensitivity of urine Xpert among those with CD4 cell counts of <50, 50-100 and >100 cells/?L were 44.4%, 25.0% and 2.7% (P=0.001), respectively. Urine Xpert testing provides a means of rapid TB diagnosis in patients with advanced immunodeficiency and poor prognosis. These data are indicative of high rates of TB dissemination and renal involvement in this clinical population
