The study was planned to evaluate cross-cultural adaptation, validation and reliability of Children's Hand-use Experience Questionnaire (CHEQ). Ninety-five children between 6 and 18 years of age with hemiparesis were included in this study. Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) was used to determine their motor levels, Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) was used to determine their manual ability, Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) was used to determine their disability level and Children's Hand-use Experience Questionnaire (CHEQ) was used to determine their hand use ability. Investigating reliability of CHEQ, 35 subjects were evaluated 1 week interval. The test-retest reliability was described by using intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Convergent and divergent construct validities were assessed by examining the Spearman's correlation coefficients of the CHEQ compared to MACS and GMFCS and PEDI. Reliability were tested by using ICC and found to be 1.00. The 'activities performed independently' section of the CHEQ had statistically significant and good correlations (p=0,001) with the MACS and the self-care section of the PEDI. It had statistically significant but weak correlation (p=0,001) with the GMFCS. As a result, The Turkish version of the CHEQ is found to be valid and reliable questionnaire and the cultural adaptation of it is appropriate for Turkish population.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of acupressure in combination with mauel therapy in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) and to compare the effects of these treatments alone and combined use. Sixty patients diagnosed with CLBP participated in the study. The subjects were randomly divided into 4 groups: 1 control and 3 applications. All patients (including the control group) underwent a standard physiotherapy program consisting of low back training and spine strengthening and stabilization exercises. The control group received no treatment other than this standard physiotherapy program. In addition to this program, acupressure was applied to the first group, manual treatment was applied to the second group, and manual treatment and acupressure were combined to the third group. The patients were treated for a total of 6 weeks, 2 sessions per week. The level of pain severity of the participants was determined by Visual Pain Scale (VAS) and Algometer. The level of muscle strength was measured by muscle dynamometer. Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used for functional evaluation; Beck Depression Inventory was used for anxiety level; Quality of Life Questionnaire (SF-36) was used for quality of life, and Tampa Kinesophobia Scale (TKS) was used for fear of movement. These assessments were administered to the patients at the beginning and end of the 6-week treatment program and the data obtained were recorded. In the control group, the difference between the pre- and post-treatment measurements was statistically significant (p <0.05) in terms of all variables except for the TKS variable. In the acupressure group, the difference between pre- and post-treatment measurements was statistically significant (p <0.05) in terms of all variables except TKS, Energy-Vitality-Vitality and Mental Health variables. In the Manual Therapy group, the difference between the pre-and post-treatment measurements was statistically significant (p <0.05) in terms of all variables except for the TKS variable. In the Acupressure + Manual Therapy group, the difference between pre and post-treatment measurements in terms of pain, muscle strength, kinesiophobia, depression and quality of life was found statistically significant (p <0.05). When the groups after treatment were compared with each other, it was seen that the best group in terms of VAS activity was the acupressure + manual treatment group, the two best groups in terms of pain threshold were the manual treatment and acupressure + manual treatment group, and the best group in terms of quality of life was the manual treatment group.Çalışmamız kronik bel ağrısı (KBA) olan hastalarda manuel tedavi ile kombine olarak uygulanacak akupressure yönteminin etkilerini incelemek ve bu uygulamaların tek başına ortaya çıkardıkları etkiler ile kombine kullanımının etkilerini birbirleri ile karşılaştırmak amacıyla planlandı. Çalışmaya KBA teşhisi konulan 60 birey katıldı. Bireyler randomizasyon yoluyla 1’i kontrol, 3’ü uygulama olmak üzere 4 farklı gruba ayrıldı.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of manual threatment in physiotherapy and rehabilitation of patients with chronic low back pain. Material and methods: 30 patients, aged between 18-65, who accepted to be included in this study and diagnosed as chronic low back pain, were randomly divided into 2 groups: 1 control and 1 application. All patients (including the control group) underwent a standard physiotherapy program consisting of low back training and spine strengthening and stabilization exercises. The control group received no treatment other than this standard physiotherapy program. In addition to this program, manual treatment was applied to the application grup. The patients were treated for a total of 6 weeks, 2 sessions per week. The level of pain severity of the participants was determined by Visual Pain Scale (VAS) and Algometry; The level of muscle strength was measured by muscle dynamometer. Oswestry Disability Index for functional evaluation; Beck Depression Inventory for anxiety level; Quality of Life Questionnaire (SF-36) was used for quality of life and Tampa Kinesophobia Scale was used for fear of movement. These assessments were performed at the beginning and end of the 6- week treatment program. Results: We found statistically significant differences in both groups between the before-treatment and after-treatment results in terms of all evaluation parameters except Tampa kinesiophobia. Manual treatment method has reduced the severity of pain, increased muscle strenght, contributed positively to functional statues, decreased the level of anxiety and depression and improved the quality of life but no improvement in kinesiophobia in patients with chronic low back pain. Conclusion: In line with our study results, we anticipate that the planned physiotherapy and rehabilitation program and manuel therapy will reduce the health expenditures by finding a solution option for chronic low back pain commonly seen in societies

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
