From Albania to Brazil: Ismail Kadaré's Broken april and its filmic adaptation, Walter Salles' Abril despedaçado
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente, Florianópolis, 2007The aim of the present study is to analyse how issues of Albanian national identity are portrayed in Ismail Kadaré's novel Broken April (Prilli i Thyer), and how such features have been appropriated and translated onto the screen into a Northeastern Brazilian context. I depart from the premise that, even though Brazilian elements are indeed shown in the film, the non existence of the Kanun in Brazil, and the use of narrative techniques different from the ones employed in the novel render the story of the blood feuds in the film more universal than the genuinely Albanian reality depicted in the novel. In sum, the appropriation transcends the Albanian reality into a universal context, showing, at the same time, elements which are typical of the Brazilian culture.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como questões sobre a identidade nacional Albanesa são retratadas no romance Abril Despedaçado (Prilli i Thyer), de Ismail Kadaré, e como tais questões foram apropriadas e traduzidas para a tela num contexto Nordestino-Brasileiro.
Structure and thermal decomposition of mu-1,1-azido bridged dinuclear Fe(III) complexes
Ercan, ismail/0000-0001-6490-3792; Ercan, filiz/0000-0002-3533-0726;WOS: 000249792800009Fe(III) complexes were prepared by the reaction of two different ONNO type Schiff bases N,N'-bis (salicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine (LH2) and N,N'-bis (salicylidene)-2,2'-dimethyl-1,3-propane diamine (LDMH2) in N-3(-) containing medium. The X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the complexes are of dinuclear type connected with mu-1,1-azido bridges. It was observed from the thermogravimetric analyses of the complexes that the azide group decomposed around 200 degrees C with exothermic reaction. This exothermic decomposition did not affect the rest of the molecule. Following the decomposition of the azide group the remainder of the molecule decomposed with carbonization process. It was seen that the molecule decomposed into Fe2O3 above 650 degrees C in oxygen containing medium. [FeLDMN3](2) complex was found to have N4O2 distorted octahedral sphere with Fe...Fe distance of 3.414 angstrom

Erratum to action of a Frobenius-like group with fixed-point free kernel [J. Group Theory 17 (2014), 863–873]
Güloğlu, İsmail Şuayip (Dogus Author) -- #correction#After the article “Action of a Frobenius-like group with fixed-point free kernel” (https://dx.doi.org/10.1515/jgt-2014-0016) went to online publication, the authors noticed that they had included the incorrect abstract. The correct abstract follows
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Frobenius action on Carter subgroups
GULOGLU, ISMAIL SUAYIP/0000-0003-2909-9254; ERCAN, GULIN/0000-0003-1476-5314Let G he a finite solvable group and H be a subgroup of Aut(G). Suppose that there exists an H-invariant Carter subgroup F of G such that the semidirect product FH is a Frobenius group with kernel F and complement H. We prove that the terms of the Fitting series of C-G (H) are obtained as the intersection of C-G (H) with the corresponding terms of the Fitting series of G, and the Fitting height of G may exceed the Fitting height of C-G (H) by at most one. As a corollary it is shown that for any set of primes pi, the terms of the pi-series of C-G (H) are obtained as the intersection of C-G (H) with the corresponding terms of the pi-series of G, and the pi-length of C may exceed the pi-length of C-G (H) by at most one. These theorems generalize the main results in [E. I. Khukhro, Fitting height of a finite group with a Frobenius group of automorphisms, J. Algebra 366 (2012) 1-11] obtained by Khukhro
Finite groups admitting a dihedral group of automorphisms
Güloğlu, İsmail Şuayip (Dogus Author)Let D = alpha, beta be a dihedral group generated by the involutions alpha and beta and let F = alpha beta). Suppose that D acts on a finite group G by automorphisms in such a way that C-G(F)= 1. In the present paper we prove that the nilpotent, length of the group Cr' is equal to the maximum of the nilpotent lengths of the subgroups C-G (alpha) and C-G(beta)
Photoconductivity kinetics in AgIn5S8 thin films
Kayed, Tarek S/0000-0003-3482-4166; Ercan, ismail/0000-0001-6490-3792; Qasrawi, Atef/0000-0001-8193-6975WOS: 000283954000034The temperature (T) and illumination intensity (F) effects on the photoconductivity of as grown and heat-treated AgIn5S8 thin films has been investigated. At fixed illumination intensity, in the temperature region of 40-300K, the photocurrent (I-ph) of the films was observed to decrease with decreasing temperature. The I-ph of the as grown sample behaved abnormally in the temperature region of 170-180K. At fixed temperature and variable illumination intensity, the photocurrent of the as grown sample exhibited linear, sublinear and supralinear recombination mechanisms at 300 K and in the regions of 160-260K and 25-130 K. respectively. This behavior is attributed to the exchange of role between the linear recombination at the surface near room temperature and trapping centers in the film which become dominant as temperature decreases. Annealing the sample at 350 K for 1 h improved the characteristic curves of I-ph. The abnormality disappeared and the I-ph - T dependence is systematic. The data analysis of which revealed two recombination centers located at 66 and 16 meV. In addition, the sublinear recombination mechanism disappeared and the heat-treated films exhibited supralinear recombination in most of the studied temperature range. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Action of a frobenius-like group with kernel having central derived subgroup
Güloğlu, İsmail Şuayip (Dogus Author)A finite group FH is said to be Frobenius-like if it has a nontrivial nilpotent normal subgroup F with a nontrivial complement H such that [F, h] = F for all nonidentity elements h is an element of H. Suppose that a finite group G admits a Frobenius-like group of auto-morphisms FH of coprime order with [F', H] = 1. In case where C-G( F) = 1 we prove that the groups G and C-G( H) have the same nilpotent length under certain additional assumptions
