    Replication Data for: Superoxide intermediate in the oxygen reduction on a zinc hydroxide model corrosion product

    This dataset contains data from a study of the electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on zinc hydroxide based model corrosion products electrodeposited on germanium(100). The core of the study is an in situ and operando study of the ORR by attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy, which is complemented by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Interpretation relies also on the characterisation of the electrodeposited model corrosion products, which is included here. The following data is included: (i) cyclic voltammograms and ATR-IR spectra recorded during chronoamperometric measurements, (ii) optimised structures and vibrational spectra obtained from DFT calculations of cluster models, (iii) scanning electron micrographs (SEM) of the deposited films before and after electrochemical experiments, including energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy characterisation of selected samples, (iv) x-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), and (v) x-ray diffraction data (XRD) of model corrosion products. An absorption at ~1180 cm-1 only in oxygen purged solution indicates the presence of superoxide (hyperoxide) as ORR intermediate.     The uniform corrosion rate of oxide-covered iron increases under illumination. This dataset contains measurements associated with an investigation of the mechanism of this increase. The samples were polished iron samples. Polished iron was either investigated directly, or anodised to create oxide films with thicknesses of 50-350 nm. The dataset contains the following experimental results: (i) potentiodynamic polarisation curves of polished iron in different electrolytes (acid, neutral, chloride-containing, alkaline) with and without white light illumination; (ii) potentiodynamic polarisation curves of anodised iron with different oxide thicknesses in NaOH with and without white light illumination; (iii) potentiodynamic polarisation curves of anodised iron in NaOH with monochromatic illumination (450-800 nm wavelength); (iv) photocurrent and photovoltage transients of polished and anodised iron in NaOH under different illumination and polarisation conditions; and (v) ex situ UV-VIS spectra of anodised iron with different oxide thickness vs. an aluminium reference. All polarisation curves were measured under controlled convection, which enabled a quantification of different contributions to the overall uniform photocorrosion rate of iron. The dataset contains ASCII files with descriptive filenames and is structured in subfolders indicating the respective methods.     Bird dropping (bird faeces) in contact with metals may affect the corrosion of these metals when exposed to a certain environment. This dataset contains the experimental characterisation of the effect chicken excrements have on a carbon steel, AISI316 stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, super duplex stainless steel, a carbon steel coated with thermally sprayed aluminium (TSA) and aluminium EN AW6082. The following experimental results are included in this dataset: (i) results of electrochemical experiments (open circuit potential measurements, polarisation resistance measurements, cathodic and anodic polarisation curves in the presence and absence of bird droppings) in an electrolyte close to synthetic seawater but without some minor components, at pH 8.9; (ii) photos of samples before and after different exposures in a salt spray chamber; (iii) images of samples after exposure to a salt spray test for given times up to 692 h (29 days); (iv) Raman spectra recorded in a confocal microscope after exposure to a salt spray test; and (v) infrared (IR) spectra recorded after exposure to a salt spray test. In addition, (vi) the study also contains mass loss (weight loss) data, which is in full included in the supporting information of the accompanying article, because of its simplicity, and is not included here. The dataset contains ASCII files and images in JPEG and PNG formats with descriptive filenames and is structured in subfolders indicating the respective methods.     Replication Data for: Photocorrosion of n- and p-Type Semiconducting Oxide Covered Metals: Case Studies of Anodized Titanium and Copper

    Titanium with 10s of nm thick n-type anatase oxide films and copper with p-type cuprite oxide films have been prepared, and the photoelectrochemical contributions to the corrosion currents analysed and compared. Titanium samples were analysed in 0.5 M sulfuric acid, and copper samples in borate buffer (pH 9). This dataset contains different measurements supporting mechanisms of photodissolution of oxide-covered metals. Most experiments were performed with white light illumination for copper and 320 nm illumination for titanium, but for reference, other wavelengths were also used, and reference measurements in the dark were conducted. The dataset contains the following experimental results: (i) Photovoltage and photocurrent measurements; (ii) potentiodynamic polarisation curves, including measurements with illumination at selected wavelengths throughout the UV-VIS spectrum, measurements with different oxygen or nitrogen purging, and experiments with different illumination intensities; (iii) full electrochemical impedance spectra, including potential dependent measurements; (iv) capacitance measurements at selected frequencies for Mott-Schottky analysis; (v) in situ UV-VIS reflectance spectra of copper after different exposure times to electrolyte with and without illumination; and (vi) downstream ICP-MS analysis of dissolved titanium with and without illumination. All electrochemical experiments were performed under controlled convection, which enabled a quantification of different contributions to the overall uniform photocorrosion rate of copper and titanium.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
