    No full text
This essay will consist of a critical reading of Per diverse ragioni, the latest collection by the poet Domenico Brancale published in 2017 for Passigli. Through a transversal reading of the poetic text, the main thematic and poetic issues of the author will be analyzed. A second point of interest will be the deepening of the ontological framework and of the conceptual meanings of the collection, and it will be connected to an investigation relating to its formal and philosophical-speculative derivations

«Sola nel letto di me stessa» Osservazioni sulla poetica di Biancamaria Frabotta ne "La materia prima"

    No full text
This essay focuses on the poetic conception of Biancamaria Frabotta in the collection La materia prima. The literature dedicated to Frabotta’s poetry is to date very wide. However, no studies on the collection have been produced to date. In order to offer an unprecedented insight into Frabotta’s poetic work, the purpose of this study is to perform a study of the textual corpus, approached through a philosophical critical methodology of analysis. Such analysis will be divided into three paragraphs and will focus on the issues raised by the ontological and aesthetical centrality of the figure of the animal, the metaphysical conception of the poet and the theoretical compositional component. The study will provide a new epistemological reading of the second-last poetry collection of Frabotta, which will also allow for a deeper understanding of her work. A new contribution will thus enrich the critical literature on the author both in the sense of the methodology and of the research focus

Integrated Evaluation for the Management of Contemporary Cities

    No full text
This book highlights a selection of the best papers presented at the 2016 SIEV conference “The Laudato sì Encyclical Letter and Valuation. Cities between Conflict and Solidarity, Decay and Regeneration, Exclusion and Participation”, which was held in Rome, Italy, in April 2016, and brought together experts from a diverse range of fields – economics, appraisal, architecture, energy, urban planning, sociology, and the decision sciences – and government representatives. The book is divided into four parts: Human Ecology: Values and Paradigms; Integral Ecology and Natural Resource Management; Intergenerational Equity; and How to Enhance Dialogue and Transparency in Decision-making Processes. Cities are where 72% of all Europeans live, and this percentage is expected to rise to 80% by 2050. Given this trend towards urbanization, cities are continuously growing, which also entails a growing risk of social segregation, lack of security and mounting environmental problems. All too often, today’s cities have to cope with social and environmental crises, shifting the European urban agenda towards regeneration processes. Urban regeneration is more complex than merely renovating existing buildings, as it also involves social and environmental problems, inhabitants’ quality of life, protecting tangible and intangible cultural resources, innovation and business

There is some evidence that acquired or hereditary prothrombotic disorders are risk factors for LST. The aim of this work was to evaluate the role of thrombotic screening, anticoagulant therapy or prophylaxis in patients with either acute or chronic otitis media and LST. The medical records of five children hospitalized at Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesu of Rome because of acute or chronic otitis media complicated by mastoiditis and LST were reviewed. All children underwent laboratory workup for hypercoagulability. All the five children were found to be heterozygote for the C677T MTHFR mutation and a child presented also heterozygosity for factor V Leiden mutation. They have been successfully treated with anticoagulant therapy without sequels. Children with acute or chronic otitis media may have a prothrombotic tendency that becomes clinically evident because of the inflammatory state. Patients with a family and/or personal history of thrombosis and/or thrombophilic conditions need anticoagulant prophylaxis also in the absence of clear signs of LST. Treatment with low molecular weight is successful in patients with LST. Blood Coagul Fibrinolysis 23:158-163 (C) 2012 Wolters Kluwer Health vertical bar Lippincott Williams & Wilkins

Fantasy literature, heiress of many literary and cinematographic forms, has developed rapidly at the turn of the XXth and XXIst centuries. In this recent corpus, several works concur to the renewal of the conventional parameters of fantasy. Pierre Bottero takes part in this joint action through a singular feminine figure, Ellana, who belongs to the marchombre guild, and whose freedom quest refers to the author’s goal to dispel the commonplaces of fantasy genre. Indeed, after the writing of La Quête d’Ewilan (2003) and Les Mondes d’Ewilan (2005), Bottero moves away from tolkienian tradition and arthurian legend in order to create Le Pacte des marchombres, a trilogy relating the emancipation of Ellana’s figure by the way of a “poetical” writing practice. This thesis searches for fantasy writing’s potentialities that are observable in the book Ellana (2006), first volume of Bottero’s final trilogy. Ellana comes under a particular transfictional writing practice – the prequel – that is done back to front. While the first trilogies of Bottero are based on Merlin’s myth, the author changes the focus to Ellana’s figure who plays a pivotal role in the alavirian cycle. We highlight the main features of the fantasy genre with the aim to identify the topoï that Ellana renews or infringes. At the same time, we set about studying the botterian imaginary that Ellana’s figure is dependent on. By turning the protagonist into a mythical figure, the author builds the image of a wild yet graceful feminine that nothing prevents from living apart from men

The influence of biofilm development on the effective gas permeability in hydraulic fractures

    No full text
Shale gas is natural gas captured in low permeable shale formations, to be able to produce this gas the permeability of the reservoir needs to be enhanced. Hydraulic fracturing is used in low permeable reservoirs to increase the permeability and make gas production possible. Fracking fluid is pumped in the reservoir at high pressure to create high permeable fractures through which gas is produced. Fracking fluid used for hydraulic fracturing contains a lot of bacteria, attached to a surface these bacteria can create biofilms. A biofilm is a 3D structure of micro-organisms in a matrix of EPS consisting for more than 90 % of water. Previous studies have proven that biofilm development can decrease the water permeability (Gerlach & Cunningham, 2009). Less is known about the influence of biofilm development on the effective gas permeability. In this research the influence of biofilms on the effective gas permeability is investigated using a steady state gas flow through a porous sample containing methanotroph bacteria. A similar experiment with ethanol as the carbon source was done by Bottero et al (2010). A decrease in the effective gas permeability was noticed, however it could not be excluded that the permeability decrease was caused by ethanol condensation inside the sample. For this thesis the set-up as used by Bottero et al (2010) is improved to minimize the chance of condensation. A temperature control system is implemented and the carbon source is changed from ethanol to methane gas. The differential pressure and flow rate are logged to determine the permeability of the sample. The water content of the sample is based on the permittivity which is measured with a TDR cable tester. The multi section scatter function model for TDR analysis was adapted to make it applicable for this research (Heimovaara, Huisman, Vrugt, & Bouten, 2004). The parameters are selected with the DREAM algorithm created by Vrugt et al (2011). During the 32 days of the experiment the water content decreased due to desaturation resulting in a permeability increase. The bacteria produced only a minor amount of water, known because of the carbon dioxide production. In this experiment the gas permeability is not noticeably influenced by biofilm development, the water production by bacteria was lower than the desaturation rate. The sample was placed inside a low conductive plastic tube, unfortunately this made it impossible to separate biofilms from water based on measurements with the TDR cable tester.Reservoir GeologyGeoscience & EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience
