Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textPopulärvetenskaplig sammanfattning Klimatet har sedan den industriella revolutionen förändrats globalt och kommer att förändras ytterligare i framtiden, på grund av människans utsläpp av växthusgaser. Enligt vetenskapliga beräkningar kommer klimatet att bli varmare, vilket i sin tur leder till att den globala havsnivån kommer att stiga. Hela världen kommer drabbas, även Sverige. Därför krävs det att samhället anpassas efter de uppskattade klimatförändringarna så att så få negativa effekter som möjligt inträffar. I maj 2011 gjordes en lagändring i Plan- och bygglagen så att krav ställs på att klimataspekter alltid ska tas hänsyn till i den kommunala fysiska planeringen. Detta för att underlätta klimatanpassningsarbetet i samhället. Länsstyrelserna har fått en samordnande roll över det regionala klimatanpassningsarbetet. Till följd av den samordnande rollen har Länsstyrelsen i Kalmar län behov av att undersöka hur kustkommunerna i länet har hanterat lagändringen, samt hur långt kommunerna kommit med sitt klimatanpassningsarbete kring en framtida höjd havsnivå. En del av uppsatsens syfte är att sammanställa detta. En webbaserad enkätundersökning skickades ut till länets kustkommuner med frågor framtagna tillsammans med Länsstyrelsen. Resultatet visar att kommunerna kommit olika långt i sitt övergripande klimatanpassningsarbete, och därmed hanterat lagändringen i PBL olika. Fem av de sju berörda kommunerna har en lägsta gräns över havet antagen i ett kommunalt beslut för nybyggnation eller annan anläggning. Den gränsen ligger på +2,5 meter för alla kommunerna. För att underlätta det kommunala klimatanpassningsarbetet är det viktigt att det finns bra planeringsunderlag att tillgå. Sedan 2009 arbetar Lantmäteriet med att ta fram en ny höjdmodell över Sverige med hög upplösning. Den tidigare höjdmodellen, GSD (Geografiska SverigeData), har en upplösning på 50 meter och den nya höjdmodellen, NNH (Ny Nationell Höjdmodell), har en upplösning på 2 meter. När det gäller havsnivåhöjningen krävs att översvämningsanalyser görs så noggranna som möjligt för att man lättare ska kunna urskilja de områden som riskerar att svämmas över i framtiden. I arbetet genomförs fem översvämningsanalyser längs med Torsås kommuns kust med de båda höjdmodellupplösningarna. Översvämningsanalyserna genomförs med en medelhavsnivåhöjning på en meter, ett extremvattenstånd på två och en halv meter och ett extremvattenstånd på tre meter. Dessa värden är framtagna genom litteraturstudie av vad havsnivån beräknas höjas med fram till slutet av detta sekel, samt Torsås kommuns antagna lägsta gräns över havet för nybyggnation. Översvämningsanalysernas resultat syftar till att jämföra hur stor landareal och vilken typ av markanvändning som översvämmas i de olika analyserna, beroende på vilken höjddata som används. Resultatet visar att den totala landarealen som översvämmas är mindre när NNH-höjddatan används. Dock minskar skillnaden på total översvämmad areal när gränsen tre meter används i analyserna. Delvis är det inte samma markanvändningsområden som översvämmas. Vid genomförd NNH-analys med tre meters vattenståndshöjning läggs 192,9 ha åker under vatten, medan motsvarande resultat av GSD-analysen är 386,7 ha åker.Since the industrial revolution the global climate has changed and will change further in the future. According to scientific estimations the climate will get warmer, which will rise the global sea level. The whole world will be affected, also Sweden. It is therefore necessary to adapt society for the estimated climate change to reduce negative effects. In May 2012 a change in the Swedish law of physical planning was implemented, which says that climate aspects always have to be considered when physical planning in the municipalities is implemented. The County Agencies in Sweden have got a coordinative role regionally for adapting the society to climate change. Due to the coordinative role the County Agency in Kalmar region needs to investigate how the coastal municipalities in the region have managed the changed law, and how far the municipalities have come in their work to adapt for a future sea level rise. A web based survey was sent to the coastal municipalities with questions compiled with the County Agency. The result shows that the municipalities have reached different levels in their general work with climate adaptation, and therefore handled the change in the law of physical planning differently. Five out of seven municipalities have set a lowest limit over sea level for new exploitation in coastal areas. All the municipalities have set the limit +2,5 meters. It is important that data of sufficient accuracy is available for the municipalities to make their local climate adaptation work easier and more precise. Since 2009, the Swedish authority Land Survey, is working on developing a new Swedish high resolution elevation model. The previous elevation model, GSD (Geographical Sweden Data), has a resolution of 50 meters and the new elevation model, NNH (New National Elevation Model), has a resolution of 2 meters. Concerning sea level rise, it is required to make as accurate flood analyses as possible in order to identify the areas vulnerable to flooding in the future. Five flood analyses have been carried out in this study. The study area is the coast of Torsås municipality. In the analyses an average sea level rise of one meter, one extreme water level of two and a half meters and one extreme water level of three meters have been used. These limits are based on literature studies of the latest research estimates of sea level rise until the end of this century, and Torsås municipality´s lowest limit over sea level for new exploitation. The aim is to compare the flood analyses results depending on the elevation data used. Furthermore the study investigates how much land area and what type of land use that will be affected in the different analyses. The result shows that less land areas are flooded when the NNH elevation models are used compared to the GSD elevation models results. However, the difference is decreasing between totally affected land areas when the limit of three meters is used in the analyses. Partly, it is not the same land use types that are flooded when different resolutions in the elevation models are used. In the result of the NNH-analysis for a three meter sea level rise, 192,9 ha of cropland are flooded, while 386,7 ha of cropland are flooded when the GSD elevation model is used
