From Albania to Brazil: Ismail Kadaré's Broken april and its filmic adaptation, Walter Salles' Abril despedaçado
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente, Florianópolis, 2007The aim of the present study is to analyse how issues of Albanian national identity are portrayed in Ismail Kadaré's novel Broken April (Prilli i Thyer), and how such features have been appropriated and translated onto the screen into a Northeastern Brazilian context. I depart from the premise that, even though Brazilian elements are indeed shown in the film, the non existence of the Kanun in Brazil, and the use of narrative techniques different from the ones employed in the novel render the story of the blood feuds in the film more universal than the genuinely Albanian reality depicted in the novel. In sum, the appropriation transcends the Albanian reality into a universal context, showing, at the same time, elements which are typical of the Brazilian culture.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como questões sobre a identidade nacional Albanesa são retratadas no romance Abril Despedaçado (Prilli i Thyer), de Ismail Kadaré, e como tais questões foram apropriadas e traduzidas para a tela num contexto Nordestino-Brasileiro.

Geometrical optimisation of vehicle shock dampers with magnetorheological fluid
Magnetorheological (MR) dampers have attracted interest from suspension designers and researchers because of their variable damping feature, mechanical simplicity, robustness, low power consumption and fast response. Therefore, optimisation of such devices is of particular interest to achieve optimal vibration control. This study deals with the geometrical optimisation of an MR shock damper using Taguchi experimental design approach. The optimal solutions of the MR damper were evaluated using analytical equations, which give the dynamic range of the damper under consideration. Optimal geometrical values obtained provided most performance in consideration of other nine alternatives of Taguchi experimental design specified for the study
Optimal design of MR damper via finite element analyses of fluid dynamic and magnetic field
In the last decade many researchers have been carried out on semi-active control systems, a large number of academic publications have been presented. Semi-active control systems which are used the magnetic field controlled fluid have been shown significant improvements by the researchers. In the study, a design optimization method that has been carried out for the objectives of target damper force and maximum magnetic flux density of an MR damper has been presented. Finite element methods, electromagnetic analysis of magnetic field and CFD analysis of MR flow, have been used to obtain optimal value of design parameters. The new approach that is use of magnetic field and MR flow together and simultaneously has specified optimal design values. Two optimal design of MR damper obtained have been verified with experimental study by manufacturing and testing of the dampers. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Optimal Magnetorheological Damper Configuration Using the Taguchi Experimental Design Method
Magnetorheological (MR) dampers have attracted the interest of suspension designers and researchers because of their variable damping feature, mechanical simplicity, robustness, low power consumption and fast response. This study deals with the optimal configuration of an MR damper using the Taguchi experimental design approach. The optimal solutions of the MR damper are evaluated for the maximum dynamic range and the maximum damper force separately. The MR dampers are constrained in a cylindrical container defined by radius and height. The optimal damper configurations obtained from this study are fabricated and tested for verification. The verification tests show that the dampers provide the specified damper force and dynamic range
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Known as the oldest type of risk that is faced specifically by banks, in the measurement of operational risks, the different and complicated methods other than that are used in financial risks measurement, should be used. This thesis basically has two objectives. The first objective; to explain the counterpart relation between the fields of activities in banking that experience operational loss events, in the frame of clustering logic. Here, Clustering Analyse is used to show the common specifications between the fields of activities, with the consideration in mind to assist the risk manager in taking decisions. In order to meet this purpose, the hierarchical cluster analysis technique, which is efficiently used in analysing small sample groups, is utilized. And the secondary objective of this study is to provide an application to banking sector by taking the Loss Distribution Approach in hand, which is an operational risk measurement method. Primarily, theoretical information regarding the Loss Distribution Approach is given in order to determine the method and scope of this study. Then, operational loss events are taken in hand within two stochastics processes based on “frequency” and “quantity”, and as a result “Total Operational Loss Model” is presented and in that way, it was intended to determine the expected losses. Comparison of some existing parametric models for magnetorheological fluid dampers
Magnetorheological dampers have received a great deal of attention in the last two decades due to their being a potential technology to conduct semi-active control. It is therefore vitally important to understand the dynamic behavior of such devices whose nonlinear hysteresis is a rather complicated phenomenon. Hence, this paper aims at conducting a comparative evaluation of the currently available parametric models that have been widely used to develop control algorithms that take maximum advantage of the unique features of MR dampers. The comparisons showed that the simple algebraic parametric models exhibited considerably better predictions than the much more complicated ordinary differential parametric models
