Deriving human-readable labels from SPARQL queries
No full textOver 80% of entities on the Semantic Web lack a human-readable label. This hampers the ability of any tool that uses linked data to offer a meaningful interface to human users. We argue that methods for deriving human-readable labels are essential in order to allow the usage of the Web of Data. In this paper we explore, implement, and evaluate a method for deriving human-readable labels based on the variable names used in a large corpus of SPARQL queries that we built from a set of log files. We analyze the structure of the SPARQL graph patterns and offer a classification scheme for graph patterns. Based on this classification, we identify graph patterns that allow us to derive useful labels. We also provide an overview over the current usage of SPARQL in the newly built corpus
Probing new physics in B → D ℓ + ℓ - decays by using angular asymmetries
No full textAbstract We present a fully general, model-independent study of a few rare semileptonic B decays that get dominant contributions from W-annihilation and W-exchange diagrams, in particular B 0 → D ¯ 0 ℓ + ℓ - , where ℓ = e , μ . We consider the most general Lagrangian for the decay, and define three angular asymmetries in the Gottfried–Jackson frame, which are sensitive to new physics. We show how these angular asymmetries can easily be extracted from the distribution of events in the Dalitz plot for B → D ℓ + ℓ - decays. Especially a non-zero forward–backward asymmetry within the frame would give the very first hint of possible new physics. These observations are also true for related decay modes, such as B + → D + ℓ + ℓ - and B 0 → D 0 ℓ + ℓ - . Moreover, these asymmetry signatures are not affected by either B 0 – B ¯ 0 or D 0 – D ¯ 0 mixings. Then this implies that both B 0 → D ¯ 0 ℓ + ℓ - and B 0 → D 0 ℓ + ℓ - as well as their CP conjugate modes can all be considered together in our search for signature of new physics. Hence, it would be of great importance to look for and study these decays in the laboratory, LHCb and Belle II in particular
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Labels in the web of data
Full text linkEntities on the Web of Data need to have labels in order to be exposable to humans in a meaningful way. These labels can then be used for exploring the data, i.e., for displaying the entities in a linked data browser or other front-end applications, but also to support keyword-based or natural-language based search over the Web of Data. Far too many applications fall back to exposing the URIs of the entities to the user in the absence of more easily understandable representations such as human-readable labels. In this work we introduce a number of label-related metrics: completeness of the labeling, the efficient accessibility of the labels, unambiguity of labeling, and the multilinguality of the labeling. We report our findings from measuring the Web of Data using these metrics. We also investigate which properties are used for labeling purposes, since many vocabularies define further labeling properties beyond the standard property from RDFS

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
