Ramadan fasting and type 1 diabetes: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Ramadan fasting is globally observed and a great majority of the residents of Islamic countries and elsewhere fast during Ramadan all across the world every year. Many patients with type 1 diabetes fast during Ramadan according to (or against) medical and jurisprudence advice. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of scientific evidence regarding the risks patients with diabetes who fast may be confronted with. The current scoping review protocol aims at systematic analysis and mapping of existing literature in the field and highlighting scientific gaps. Methods and analyses This scoping review will be conducted based on the Arksey and O'Malley’s methodological framework with consideration of later modifications and amendments. Three major scientific databases, namely PubMed, Scopus and Embase up to February 2022 will be systematically searched by expert researchers in collaboration with a medical librarian. Considering the fact that Ramadan Fasting is a cultural-dependent subject, which may be studied in the Middle Eastern and Islamic Countries in languages other than English, local Persian and Arabic Databases will also be included. Grey literature will be sought too, and unpublished works such as conference proceedings and academic degree dissertation will be considered. Subsequently, one author will screen and record all abstracts, and two reviewers will independently screen and retrieve eligible full texts. A third reviewer will then be designated to resolve potential discrepancies. Standardised data charts and forms will be used for information extraction and reporting of the outcomes.Ethics and dissemination No ethical considerations apply to this research. Results will be published and presented in academic journals and scientific events

PENDEKATAN MAQÂSHID AL- SYARI’AH DALAM PEMIKIRAN ALI JUM’AH
The problem of this research is how to approach and apply maqâshid al-syari'ah in thinking of Ali Jum'ah. Starting from the approach of maqâshid al-shariah in maintaining the benefit of religion (hifz al-din), maintaining the benefit of the soul (hifz an-nafs), maintaining the welfare of the mind (hifz al-'aql), maintaining the benefit of the descend / nasab (hifz an-nasl) and preserves the wealth of property (hifz al-mâl).The purpose achieved in this research is to know the application of maqâshid al-syari'ah by Ali Jum'ah in thought and view and his opinion in establishing Islamic law. The extent to which maqâshid al-shari'ah is applied in terms of maintaining the good of the religion (hifz al-din), preserving the soul's goodness (hifz an-nafs), maintaining the welfare of the mind (hifz al-'aql), maintaining the good of the descendants (hifz- nasl) and maintain the wealth of property (hifz al-mal).This research is a study character of library research (library research). The main source of this research is the book al-Kalim al- Thayyib Fatawa 'Ashriyah and Fatawa Bait al-Muslim, is a book written by Ali Jum'ah. Other supporting sources include other Ali Jum'ah books such as Aliyat al-Ijtihâd, Madkhal ila Dirasah al-Mazâhib al-Fiqhiyah, Madkhal fi al-Thurâst, al-Qiyâs' Inda Ushuliyyin, and other books by others support and refine this research. The results of this study can be concluded that some thoughts and fatwa of Ali Jum'ah when associated with maqâshid al-syari'ah (the purpose of legal pensyariatan) in the five elements that exist; keeping religion, soul, mind, descendant, and treasure, apparently has a common point in its application. One of the thoughts of Ali Jum'ah with the approach of maqâshid al-syari'ah in the element of maintaining the benefit of religion (hifz al-din) is about pilot fasting in Ramadan. Ali Jum'ah says if conditions allow for fasting, then may choose between fasting and not fasting. But if conditions are very difficult to fast that can bring harm, then obliged to break (not fasting) and forbidden fasting. In maintaining the benefit of the soul (hifz an-nafs) there are cases concerning the law of organ transplantation. According to Ali Jum'ah, both transplants from humans who live to other living human beings, as well as corpse organs to living humans are allowed by shari'ah if they meet certain conditions. In maintaining the benefit of reason (hifz al-'aql) the author finds the approach of maqâshid al- syari'ah on his fatwa and his thoughts when asked the law of narcotics. Ali Jum'ah only describes the laws and postulates of the Qur'an and Sunnah regarding the law of khamar, without harmonizing the connection of narcotics and khamar. In maintaining the benefit of offspring (hifz an-nasl) the author finds the maqashid al-shari'ah approach on the fatwa on the law of sterilization in humans. According to Ali Jum'ah, such sterilization is haram, if not in an emergency or dangerous. A person is not required to do so if it does not harm him or does not inflict damage on him. As for maintaining the wealth of property (hifz al-mâl) one example of maqâshid al-syari'ah approach to the sale and purchase of land but not face to face between the seller and the buyer. In this case, Ali Jum'ah advised against buying and selling in this condition, for fear of greater harm and wasted loss and futility.Keyword; Ali Jum'ah, Maqâshid Al-Syari’ah, Approach
Female Critics of Islamism: Liberal or Secular Islam?
The author distinguishes between two types of criticism of Islamism: ‘liberal Islam’ and ‘secular Islam’. The meaning and consequences of this difference in approach is analyzed with reference to the work of Chadortt Djavann, Irshad Manji, Mina Ahadi and Taslima Nasreen. The difference of approach is especially relevant in the way one looks at ‘interpretation’. This will be illustrated by analyzing a discussion between Tariq Ramadan and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. </jats:p
Curriculum of Quranic education in the Egyptian Quran schools (Al-Katateb) and the Sudanese Quran schools (Khalawi).
“ This research was supported by Internal Grants at Qatar university, Internal Grant No. QUCG-CSIS- - 20 / 21. The findings achieved herein are solely the responsibility of the author[s]The research aims at introducing the Kutab (Egyptian Quran school), Khelwa (Sudanese Quran school), and explaining the educational and pedagogical curriculum in them, their importance in preserving the Holy Qur’an, its Arabic language, and their role in supporting the educational goals of the first educational stage of a child's life. It also sheds the light on their role in enabling learners to acquire targeted language skills, such as listening, reading, writing, and memorization. The importance of research exists in the clarification of the educational and pedagogical curriculum of the “Al-Kuttab” and “Khelwa”, and the role of this approach in preserving the components of the Islamic nation and preserving its heritage represented in the Holy Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet, the Islamic faith, the Arabic language, and its eternal history. The research problem lies in the existence of a discrepancy between the curricula and methods of Qur’anic education in the countries of the Islamic world, and the absence of scientific and educational coordination between the institutions concerned with this matter, which results in the loss of the benefit from the exchange of experiences in this important field, and the continuity of what it is of an existing situation that is not compatible with reality and lack of ambition to develop that is compatible with the spirit of the present age, which leads to making great efforts compared to gaining little of the desired benefit. As well as the apparent absence of the pioneering role of these two institutions from the living reality, and its negative impact. The research adopted the historical approach and the descriptive and analytical method in tracing the phenomenon of the Al-Katateb and al-Khalawi historically, describing it, and analyzing its implications. Among the most important results of the research is the necessity of working to revive the role of these two institutions, and to develop their educational methodology in line with the requirements of the present era. To meet contemporary challenges to preserve the identity of Muslim youth
From the river to the sea? : honour, identity and politics in historical and contemporary Palestinian rejectionism
The present thesis seeks to understand and explain the rhetoric and
behaviour of the rejectionist 'current' within the Palestinian national
movement. It proceeds from the view that extant scholarship, primarily from
within the fields of terrorism and security studies, has profoundly
misunderstood rejectionist speech and behaviour by ignoring the
explanatory capacity of Emic - the research subject's perception - as well as
the influence of the sociocultural milieu within which rejectionism exists.
The thesis proceeds to set up a 'socioculturally sensitive' analytical
framework drawn from social identity theory, a heuristic, non-reductionist
model for understanding group interaction and conflict. Emphasizing
cultural norms and cues identified by anthropologists as salient in the
eastern Mediterranean, the thesis suggests that the social value of honour,
patron-client dynamics and a firmly entrenched group orientation must be
significant elements of a model for understanding rejectionist behaviour.
The main analytical narrative suggests that for reasons derived from
ideology, patron-client relations and group dynamics, what has distinguished
the rejectionists from the mainstream have been a qualitatively different set
of preconditions for, and objectives of diplomatic negotiations. To the main
rejectionist factions the goal of liberating Palestine has always been
inextricably intertwined with the goal of restoring national honour; one
without the other has been impossible and to claim otherwise would mean a
depletion of factional and personal honour. To the rejectionists, there has
never been any question of deviating from the fundamental goals - national
recognition, repatriation, self-determination and independent statehood, not
even for tactical reasons. This 'higher standard' likely derives from their
structurally and politically subordinate position within the national
movement, and the need to creatively enhance their own social status and
appeal
Corrosion of mild steel with composite polyaniline coatings using different formulations
The protective abilities of composite coatings based on electrochemically and chemically formed polyaniline powder against the corrosion of mild steel were investigated. A polyaniline powder has been prepared in the form of an emeraldine base and benzoate salt through chemical dedoping and doping. The composite coatings using polyaniline powders, which were obtained through different routes, and base coatings, which were not corrosion-resistant, with different formulations were prepared and applied on mild steelsamples. The corrosion was investigated using an electrochemical impedance technique in 3% NaCl, andthe atmospheric corrosion was assessed in a humidity chamber. Emeraldine-benzoate salts, which area chemically synthesized polyaniline, offer the best protection with an optimal polyaniline concentration of approximately 5 wt%. The different corrosion behaviors were assessed relative to the presence of aniline oligomers in the samples after characterization using UV-vis spectrophotometry. Upon comparison between the corrosion behavior in 3% NaCl with commercial primer paint for iron and that with apaint containing 5 wt% PANI, the composite coating has superior anticorrosion characteristics. The mech-anism for the protection of mild steel from corrosion through composite polyaniline coatings was also considered. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
