Common Method Variance & Bias dalam Penelitian Psikologis

    No full text
The issue of common method variance and bias in Indonesia still has not gained much attention; even the terminology is less popular, except among psychometric enthusiasts and experts. In fact, the potential for common method variance and bias infiltrating in research results is very high, especially in studies that use a single method, a single source, and concurrent design, which are highly favored by psychological lecturers and researchers in Indonesia. This paper is a critical review, exposing the debate and serious impact regarding common method variance and bias, as well as procedures for detecting, addressing and correcting its effects. The author hoped this paper contributes in filling the gap in the literature, especially in Psychology Research Methodology text books in the Indonesian language, so that psychological researches in Indonesia continue to increase their quality and to have their better place in international publications

‘There are No Such Great Philosophies’: Contested Meanings of Toasebio Parish in Jakarta

    No full text
This present study aims at exploring the meaning of the building of Santa Maria de Fatima Catholic Church (abbreviated as: SMFCC) or Toasebio Parish located in District Glodok, Jakarta, Indonesia. The author exposes in advance the meaning of the physical elements of the building SMFCC as understood by history writers and building experts. These meanings are not inseparable from the elements of human activities in the building. Through qualitative methods and literature review, the author describes in the Results section, how those meanings can be further interpreted through the existing studies and expressions of the SMFCC Parish Head. It is found that these meanings are contested − from the direction of religious faith and of culture − but complete our understandings of the church which is well-known as an Indonesian cultural heritage and dominated by Chinese and pastors from Europe

Description: Psychology contributes to criminal profiling process. Unfortunately, after intensive review on latest research findings, it is detected that most criminal profiling process is not based on strong scientific assumptions. This article explains the reasons why criminal profiling is quite a problem for psychology as a science. The author proposes several ideas to overcome this problem. The first idea is about the accurate understanding of criminal profiling scientific status. The science-pseudoscience-non science dichotomy and protoscience-science spectrum will support this understanding. The second idea is that there are some things to be considered for criminal profiling in order to be a prestigious discipline and be used scientifically appropriate by scientists and practitioners of forensic psychology and criminology
