    No full text

    No full text
This chapter analyzes data collected in 2023 by the Listening Centers of the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Lucca. Following a methodological and territorial framework, the chapter offers a qualitative and quantitative interpretation of the hardship situations that emerged, with particular attention to the needs expressed by the people received. It reconstructs the socio-demographic profile of the users and examines the nature of the vulnerabilities detected, highlighting the main risk factors. One section is dedicated to the evolution of poverty conditions in recent years, while the conclusion reflects on the social implications of the data and possible intervention perspectives

    Povertà e disuguaglianze in Italia

    No full text
This contribution offers an in-depth analysis of poverty and social inequalities in Italy, with a particular focus on the worsening economic and social conditions affecting the most vulnerable segments of the population. Drawing on key national statistical sources, it highlights how absolute poverty affects millions of individuals—especially large families, minors, foreign nationals, and those with low educational attainment. The paper also underscores the vital role played by the Caritas support network, which, through its Listening Centers, provides both material and relational assistance to those in need. Special attention is given to the Tuscan context, where housing and employment insecurity are increasingly evident. The text presents a complex picture of multidimensional poverty, which is becoming ever more chronic and intergenerational

    No full text
The essay analyzes the phenomenon of working poverty in Italy, starting from the increase in absolute poverty recorded in recent years, especially following the economic crisis that began in 2008. It highlights how, despite a recovery in employment, a growing number of families – particularly foreign ones – are living in poverty despite having an income from work. Data show a significant incidence of the phenomenon in the central and northern regions, with Tuscany among the most affected. The analysis also focuses on the socio-demographic characteristics of the so-called working poor, particularly single mothers and foreign men with dependent families. The study is enriched by data collected from Caritas listening centers and by qualitative interviews that give voice to poor workers, revealing their personal experiences and the daily hardships they face. Working poverty thus emerges as a structural and widespread phenomenon, affecting even well-integrated individuals with stable employment, especially in low-wage sectors and in the presence of significant family burdens

Cambiare o traccheggiare?

The value of social worker-trainee relations in pandemic time from Covid-19

The health emergency posed a real challenge for field training for social work students. Social workers supervisors and interns have been called upon to develop together, even more so than in the past, their ability to critically reflect on the role, characteristics, functions, theories, principles and methods of social work in light of the important and sudden transformations of the environment in which the processes of helping individuals, groups and communities are developed. The study came about from the need to understand the strengths, limits and potential inherent in projects of field training in which the trainee carries out their activities in person, but in a scenario characterised by profound transformations and alterations of the traditional work context. The contribution proposes the results of a survey carried out within the framework of the degree course in Social Sciences and Social Service at the Ca’ Foscari University. The research was conducted through the use of qualitative tools and involved university traineeship tutors, supervisors and students engaged in in-person practical training during the second and third Covid-19 pandemic waves. It highlights some processes through which during the health emergency the relational dimension of social work was reformulated while retaining its central role

The pandemic as an opportunity for learning and improving the students' reflective learning strategies in the field of social work. Reflections based on an Italian case study

The Covid-19 pandemic has been an important challenge for the training of students of university social service courses, especially with regard to internship activities. The need to define quality training projects, even during a pandemic, has given rise to numerous forms of experimentation and innovation in universities around the world, many of which have proved useful and effective in ensuring high levels of training during the health emergency. Now that the most critical phase of the pandemic seems to be behind us, it is important to reflect on how the new, reflective attitude toward the practical training of future professionals and the activities of the last two years, can become part of the knowledge in the field of practical training of future social workers, even in a non-emergency scenario. This article offers some reflections on the critical issues, resources, and new opportunities that arose concerning practical training, in particular on how the students’ reflective learning strategies in their approach to social work during the Covid-19 pandemic could be improved, starting with the results of research carried out in Italy, during the Degree Course in Social Sciences and Social Services at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. The research, conducted through the combination of a survey and some qualitative research tools, involved university internship tutors, supervising social workers at social service institutions in the area, and students who were confronted with the need for practical training during the pandemic

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
