No full textDate:1897Eleni came to Darwin, Northern Territory in 1917 and married Eustratios George in September that year. The couple opened a salt industry at Racecourse Creek in Ludmilla and provided salt to the Vesteys meatworks which opened in 1920. When the meatworks closed down they lost money, but they battled on with their small industry selling to the cattle stations buffalo shooters and butchers. They had a herd of goats and kept fowls Eleni had a contract to supply eggs to the hospital. She worked hard to bring up her family of eight and to help her husband in his work. By 1938 they saved enough to open E. G. Haritos shop. During the World War II they spent some time in New South Wales growing bananas and returned to Darwin again after the war. Eleni was always giving to the community, she spent almost 50 years in Darwin working in the shop raising her children and helping her husband.Gree
