    No full text
The article deals with a group of poems that Corrado Govoni published on various literary magazines («La Riviera Ligure», «La Voce», «Lacerba», «Myricae») between 1914 and 1915, under the collective title of Kleksografie; the poems were then included in the book L’inaugurazione della primavera (1915), where the title Kleksografie doesn’t appear. The essay tries to determine the meaning of the analogy drawn by the author between poetic writing and klecksography (the art of making images from inkblots, that has also been used by psychiatrists and psychoanalysts like Hermann Rorschach as a tool to study the subconscious); it also illustrates the connections between these poems and Govoni’s contemporary production, influenced both by Futurism and Crepuscularism

First direct evidence of reproductive behaviour of the white grouper, Epinephelus aeneus (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817)

This study describes the first ever reported direct observation of a pair spawning event and the reproductive liveries of the white grouper, Epinephelus aeneus. Spawning took place on a rocky bank located in the Marine Protected Area (MPA) of Tavolara- Punta Coda Cavallo (NE Sardinia, Italy), in the Western Mediterranean Sea. In the evening of August 4th, 2018, the spawning of two large-sized individuals (~90 cm total length), displaying distinct colour patterns, was observed using SCUBA diving. This direct observation is the first record of E. aeneus male reproductive livery, characterized by a darker coloration on the head, the dorsal part of the body and the caudal fin. In addition, information on the environmental conditions in which reproduction occurred was collected. At the study site, relatively high seawater temperatures were recorded at the time of the E. aeneus spawning (24 °C at 24.7 m), as well as over the 2018 summer months (July-September), even in deep waters (>35 m), compared to previous summers. The spawning event occurred in a coralligenous-dominated seascape where fishing is prohibited, while diving activities are allowed. The site hosts abundant populations of ecologically and commercially valuable fish species (e.g., groupers, sparid fishes), with significant proportions of large-sized individuals (i.e. reproducers). Further studies are needed to advance our knowledge of the white grouper, with a particular emphasis on reproduction and the importance of implementing effective protection measures. Prioritizing management actions at key reproductive sites, such as rocky banks, is essential for ensuring the protection and/or recovery of over-exploited species

Focusing on the period of Tasso’s imprisonment in the hospital of Sant’Anna in Ferrara (1579-1586), this poem differs from other dedicated by 20th-century Italian poets to the author of "Gerusalemme liberata" due to the massive re-use of passages from Tasso’s epistolary, specifically from the letters written during his imprisonment, which Risi may have read in a 1960 edition edited by F. Costabile. The analysis of the text aims first of all to identify the passages reused by Risi, also questioning the value that the Milanese poet wished to assign to the figure of Tasso and to the dramatic experience of his internment: an interpretation to which the memory of Montaigne and the account of his meeting with Tasso, contained in the second book of the "Essais", is not extraneous

Vittorio Alfieri is one of the foremost writers of epigrams in 18th-century Italy: his production, composed over a twenty-year period, includes more than 210 epigrams, collected by the author both in the first and second part of the “Rime” and in the “Misogallo”. This essay retraces chronologically the stages of this production, examining its evolution from a thematic and metrical point of view and examining the theoretical reflections on epigrams that can be found in the ‘Vita’ and in other works by Alfieri

The volume reconstructs the social and epistolary networks that Metastasio developed from Vienna in dialogue with Europe between 1730, the year of his arrival at the court of Charles VI, and his death in 1782. The essays examine the most significant moments of Metastasio’s literary, musical, theatrical and artistic endeavours, highlighting his relations with performers and figures in Viennese society and with interlocutors who, from other European capitals, conversed with him through letters. From the dual perspective of the great dramatist immersed in court ceremonial and the intellectual who reads the ancient lesson in the light of modern sensibility, observing the many shifts in aesthetics and poetics of the century, emerges the profile of an acute interpreter of his era and at the same time of an author to whom the timeless category of the classic is suited

    No full text
Metastasio’s libretti (both those written in Italy and those created in Vienna) were reused many times in the Habsburg capital during the 18th century. The presence of the author did not save them from alterations, including some German translations. After offering a provisional list of the operatic productions based on Metastasian creations, the essay focuses on three versions of “L’olimpiade” by Antonio Caldara (1733), Georg Christoph Wagenseil (1749) and Florian Leopold Gassmann (1764) respectively. The viennese tradition of the text appears rather conservative, as the original dramaturgical conception is never questioned. The morphological solutions adopted by the three authors are compared through the analysis of two significant examples, Aristea’s aria “Tu di saper procura” and the famous duet “Ne’ giorni tuoi felici”

3, in cui si afferma al primo comma l’uguaglianza di fronte alla legge senza distinzione di razzaThe essay aims to answer the question about how Calamandrei, who took side against fascism from the beginning, reacted to the racial laws, since he was a great jurist. In order to answer the question on the position taken by Calamandrei regarding the approval and especially the implementation of the racial laws, the Author lingers on four points: a) some brief considerations on the racial laws and the jurists’ class; b) a thorough analysis of the conference held by Calamandrei on 21st January 1940 at the Italian catholic university federation (FUCI); c) a research on the most intimate works (the diary and the letters), where his refusal for the racial laws appears; d) lastly, some reflections on the Calamandrei journey to constitutional legality and his contribution to the “humanity laws” codification inside the Constitution, among which is article 3, where the paragraph 1 thereof affirms equality before the law without any sort of racial discriminatio

Favorable incremental cost-effectiveness ratio for lung cancer screening in Italy

    No full text
Lung cancer detection by low-dose computed tomographic screening reduces mortality. However, it is essential to assess cost-effectiveness. We present a cost-effectiveness analysis of screening in Italians at high risk of lung cancer, from the point of view of the Italian tax-payer. Materials and methods We used a decision model to estimate the cost-effectiveness of annual screening for 5 years in smokers (≥30 pack-years) of 55–79 years. Patients diagnosed in the COSMOS study were the screening arm; patients diagnosed and treated for lung cancer in the Lombardy Region, Italy, constituted the usual care arm. Treatment costs were extracted from our hospital database. Lung cancer survival in screened patients was adjusted for 2-year lead-time bias. Life-years and quality-adjusted life-years were estimated by stage at diagnosis, from which incremental cost-effectiveness ratios per life-year and quality-adjusted life-year gained were estimated. Results Base-case incremental cost-effectiveness ratios were 3297 and 2944 euro per quality-adjusted life-year and life-year gained, respectively. Deterministic sensitivity analysis indicated that these values were particularly sensitive to lung cancer prevalence, screening sensitivity and specificity, screening cost, and treatment costs for stage I and IV disease. From the probabilistic sensitivity analysis incremental cost-effectiveness ratios had a 98 % probability of being <25,000 euro (widely-accepted threshold) and a 55 % probability of being <5000 euro. Conclusions Low-dose computed tomographic screening is associated with an incremental cost of 2944 euro per life-year gained in high risk population, implying that screening can be introduced in Italy at contained cost, saving the lives of many lung cancer patients
