Próbáltam áttekinteni Eichmann életét és történelmi szerepét, ezáltal történelmi felelősségét a második világháborúban.BKPolitikatudományBSc/B

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Cellular and molecular mechanisms of embryonic haemangiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis

    No full text
Vascular diseases are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in developed nations. Therapeutic haemangiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis may present a chance for curative intervention. Recently we have learned that physiologic and pathologic angiogenesis in the human adult are controlled by molecules that are already functioning during embryogenesis, and the lessons we can learn from studying embryos may be useful for future clinical studies. Here we review cellular and molecular mechanisms of embryonic haemangiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. The focus lies on the endothelial cell and the surrounding peri-endothelial cells, the growth factors and receptors that control their development, proliferation, maintenance, regression and differentiation. Our rapidly expanding knowledge of the molecules expressed in endothelial cells justifies expanded functional studies in future

Pragmatic Case Studies as a Source of Unity in Applied Psychology

    No full text
To unify or not to unify applied psychology: that is the question. In this article we review pendulum swings in the historical efforts to answer this question—from a comprehensive, positivist, “top-down,” deductive yes between the 1930s and the early 60s, to a postmodern no since then. A rationale and proposal for a limited, “bottom-up,” inductive yes in applied psychology is then presented, employing a case-based paradigm that integrates both positivist and postmodern themes and components. This paradigm is labeled “pragmatic psychology” and, its specific use of case studies, the “Pragmatic Case Study Method” (“PCS Method”). We call for the creation of peer-reviewed journal-databases of pragmatic case studies as a foundational source of unifying applied knowledge in our discipline. As one example, the potential of the PCS Method for unifying different angles of theoretical regard is illustrated in an area of applied psychology, psychotherapy, via the case of Mrs. B. The article then turns to the broader historical and epistemological arguments for the unifying nature of the PCS Method in both applied and basic psychology.Peer reviewe

Letter about the Transport of 765 Slovenian Jews to Auschwitz, Signed by Adolf Eichmann

Letter: Green Geheim! stamp at top. Two grid stamps and several markings and hand stamps. Signature at bottom right Information Provided by Michael D. Bulmash: A very rare document about the transport of 765 Jews to Auschwitz-Birkenau, sent by the commander of the SD in the Steiermark (August Becker) to Adolf Eichmann in the RSHA IV B in Berlin. Eichmann confirmed the receipt of the letter with an Eingangsstempel (Notice of Arrival) and signed it. The letter was addressed directly to him. At the bottom left of the letter it says that the letter is to be presented to Heinrich Himmler too. The blue box next to Eichmann\u27s confirmation of receipt is one from Himmler\u27s office and contains a signature in blue pencil which probably is the signature of one of his secretaries.https://digital.kenyon.edu/bulmash/1580/thumbnail.jp

Hannah Arendt, "Eichmann in Jerusalem" Collection 1963-1966

Clippings, book reviews and published commentaries concerning Hannah Arendt's book "Eichmann in Jerusalem" and the controversy that it caused, in particular regarding the question of collaboration by Jewish communal organizations, notably the Reichsvertretung der deutschen Juden, and the role of such leaders as Leo Baeck.Born in Hanover on October 14, 1906, Hannah Arendt studied philosophy at the Universities of Marburg, Freiburg and Heidelberg. She emigrated to France in 1933 and to the United States in 1941, where she taught at several universities and achieved a reputation as a leading political philosopher. In "Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" (New York, 1963), a reflection on the trial of Adolf Eichmann, she refuses to place the sole responsibility for the Holocaust on the Nazis, and assigns blame also to the Allied nations and to the Jewish communal leaders, who passively cooperated with the Nazis. She died in New York on December 4, 1975.30 catalogue cards.Murmelstein, B. Steiner-Prag, Hugo.Finding aid available onlinedigitize

The Perpetrator in Focus: Turn of the Century Holocaust Remembrance in "The Specialist"

    No full text
In his controversial 1998 film, The Specialist, Israeli director Eyal Sivan casts the Holocaust in a new light when he represents it through the eyes of the Nazi perpetrator. Sivan and his scriptwriter, human rights activist Rony Brauman, re-assemble and manipulate footage originally filmed by Leo Hurwitz for Capital Cities Broadcasting of Adolf Eichmann’s trial by an Israeli court in Jerusalem in 1961. Specifically, Sivan recycles the video footage of the trial into a 16mm film that critiques, not the heinous nature of Eichmann’s crimes, nor the depravity of the man who committed them, but the system of regulation that constructed and judged Eichmann. While the video footage was originally filmed as a document of the trial, Sivan radically redeploys the same images in a narrative that exposes the manipulations of the court, its representations and the continued injustice of such institutions and representations today, 45 years later. According to The Specialist, Eichmann’s actions are not on trial; they are a foregone conclusion. To prove Eichmann’s guilt or innocence was not the point of the trial in the first place, and it is certainly not the goal of The Specialist. Through its careful weaving of fragments of the proceedings, over the course of its narrative, The Specialist reveals the relationship of otherness — the differences and identicalities — between Adolf Eichmann, the ‘deportation specialist’ and Attorney General Gideon Hausner for the prosecution. Simultaneously, the film considers the relationship between Eichmann and the crimes of the National Socialist Party as they were forged by the Israeli court

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
