No full textIsidoro Del Lungo (1841-1927) - intellettuale poliedrico e storico della letteratura italiana - dedicò un curioso contributo alla figura di Raffaello Salari (1816-1895), carradore fiorentino che, innamoratosi dei libri antichi, si diede alla calligrafia per imitarne le vecchie scritture e i caratteri. Il ricordo, pubblicato per la prima volta nell'agosto 1906 e poi in una rara edizione a parte, uscita nello stesso anno, offre un ritratto di un mestiere del libro oggi dimenticato

No full textIl Selvaggio is an undoubtedly minor chivalresque poem composed by one Giovambattista Cortese from Bagnacavallo in Romagna. In 1535, probably some years after the author had died, the work was published in Venice by the Nicolini da Sabbio printing firm. The privilege for the edition was requested by a certain Andrea Trevisan. The edition is interesting for a curious woodcut placed at the end of the volume, depicting a reversed view of St Mark’s Square together with the inscription “Nemo hoc signo imprimere audeat”. At the top of the woodcut the atmospheric phenomenon known as parhelia or ‘sundogs’ is shown. The upper part of the woodcut, cut away from the original woodblock, appears again in an edition published in 1536 (on the subject of an occurrence of this phenomenon) which until now has always been thought to have been printed in Rome

No full textThe known documentation about the brothers John and Windelin from Spira is reread here. This is above all informations obtained from the editions themselves, in addition to the famous privilege for the exclusive exercise of the printing in Venice. The occasion is gluttonous to highlight some respectable female figures in the family entourage of the from Spira, as well as the rich plot of German merchants underlying the landing of the typography in the lagoon (John from Köln, the Dinslakens, Peter Ugelheimer). In addition, it is thus possible to identify the proprium that characterized the production of Vindelino, whose slightly elusive figure usually seems to disappear in the face of his brother’s pre-eminence.Il testo offre una rilettura della documentazione esistente sui fratelli Giovanni e Vindelino da Spira. Si tratta di informazioni desunte dalle edizioni stesse, in aggiunta al famoso privilegio per l’esercizio esclusivo della stampa a Venezia. Un’occasione ghiotta per portare alla luce alcune notevoli figure femminili nell’entourage familiare dei da Spira, così’ come la ricca trama di mercanti tedeschi che sottende l’approdo della tipografia nella laguna (Giovanni da Colonia, i Dinslaken, Peter Ugelheimer). É possibile dunque identificare, in aggiunta, le caratteristiche tipiche della produzione di Vindelino, la cui figura un po’ elusiva è solitamente oscurata dalla preminenza del fratello

No full textThe present article deals with the cataloguing project of about 12,000 incunabula owned by Lombard libraries, started ten years ago and financed by Regione Lombardia. The project was carried out by CRELEB (European Research Center Book Library Publishing) of the Catholic University in Milan, which managed the data entry in the international database MEI of over 8,500 incunabula owned by Lombard libraries. The intellectual contribution offered by the Catholic University is very important, thanks to the experience and reflection on the annotated books and on the recording of copy specifics started many years before with the contribution of the Italian philologist Giuseppe Frasso
