Spectrophotometer and its utilization for the resolution of professional issues encountered by metallurgical ingineers
Discuss the utilization of the same at various fields of science and the technique, in particular his job to resolve a metallurgic engineer's professional problems of one's own. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT USING LIFE-CYCLE ANALYSIS
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a methodology used in evaluating the impact of environmental factors associated with all stages of a commercial product, process, or service life cycle. This paper sheds light on different techniques and processes and how they are applied during each phase of a product or process, right from the acquisition of raw materials to the end-of-life phase where assets are decommissioned. This project also uses a case study to explore economic and ecological life cycle outcomes as it relates to cost and financial bearin
STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY MONITORING OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES USING LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING
The offshore inspection is an integral part of the Oil and Gas industry, due to the structural failures, a huge sum of money and resources have been invested into ensuring that offshore structures are built according to procedures and specifications that will guaranty the integrity and overall reliability for the complete life of the structure which is usually between 25 – 30 years. The complex failure pattern of offshore structure’s means they will be prone to hazards; hence consistent inservice inspection techniques are required to monitor the structural integrity of these structures, and as a result, offshore inspections have developed over the past years with the introduction of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) inspection techniques such as “LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING”
STRESS-STRENGTH INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS OF AISI 4140 STEEL UNDER CONSTRAINED THERMAL EXPANSION USING MONTE-CARLO SIMULATION
Material properties and stresses acting on machine parts are not point values but are statistically distributed. Consequently, it is possible for stress and strength distributions to overlap, exposing weaker materials to stresses greater than their strengths, leading to failure. A Monte Carlo simulation was conducted on AISI 4140 steel subjected to constrained thermal expansion using practical statistical distributions of material properties and environmental variables. The probability of failure of constrained and unstrained AISI 4140 steels were compared and the results showed a lower probability of failure for the latter. The results also showed that at low to moderate stress levels, mechanical load and thermal stress had relatively similar impact on the probability of failure. However, at high stress levels, the effect of mechanical load was predominant
