The presented study has been financed via the Latvian Science Council Grant No. 2018/2-0083. The author is grateful to Professors M. R. Philpott, G. Ceder and G. Borstel for many stimulating discussions during his work at Singapore. We performed all our ab initio calculations at North German Parallel Computer Center located at Hannover (HLRN).Current commercially available rechargeable Li-ion batteries, for example LiCoO2, are working mostly in the 4 V regime. One often suggested possibility to improve the effectivity of Li-ion batteries are the creation of the 5 V cathode materials. We performed quantum mechanical calculations on the average battery voltage for the Li2CoxMn4−xO8 (x = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4) cathode materials by means of the WIEN2k computer program package. The calculated average battery voltages for x = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are equal to 3.95, 5, 4.47, 4.19 and 3.99 V. Our ab initio calculation results are compared with the available experimental data for x = 0, 1, 2 and 4 which are equal to 4, 5, 5 and 4 V. Thereby, for the Li2Co1Mn3O8 battery cathode material, our calculated average battery voltage around 5 V is in perfect agreement with the experimentally available battery voltage value of 5 Volt. Nevertheless, our calculated average battery voltage is underestimated (4.47 V) for the Li2Co2Mn2O8 cathode material, which also experimentally exhibits the 5 V voltage.Latvian Council of Science 2018/2-0083; Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia as the Center of Excellence has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme H2020-WIDESPREAD-01-2016-2017-TeamingPhase2 under grant agreement No. 739508, project CAMART

Darbā tiek pētīta ilūziju atklāsme Anšlava Eglīša prozā, kura tapusi laikposmā līdz autora emigrācijai no Latvijas Otrajā pasaules karā. A. Eglīša prozas laiktelpa iezīmē Rīgu starpkaru periodā. This Masters Thesis is about illusion in prose of Anslavs Eglitis, that has been written before emigration in World War Two. His literary works take place in Riga between first and second World War. Author has dedicated a lot of his attention to description of society. Affected by the rapid development of cinema and popular culture, as well as by tendencies of europeization and amerikanization, creation of illusory characters emerge in the society. Anslavs Eglitis encorporates these tendencies in his litterary works. Illusions are connected with voluntary formation of self image or living in imaginary world

    No full text
AbstractThe paper analyses industrial city's economic development during the 19th century and its policy, which still today has influence on the city's processes in politics, economics, social and urban development. Like with other industrial cities, Liepaja's success started in the beginning of the 19th century with the abolition of serfdom in Russian Empire. It allowed free people movement and increased the population of the city. Next wave for the city's rapid development was the railway installation. The railway, the harbour and free access to the human resources provided industrial city's advancement during the second half of the 19th century and it provided a basis for the development of nowadays Liepaja. Liepaja's harbour and industry are still playing an important role in its economic development. However, currently the number of the population is decreasing and Liepaja city has one of the highest unemployment rates in Latvia. The Paper is studying: “Liepaja's economic development policy changes, challenges and issues converting from industrial city to the city whose economic development relies on different aspects not only traditional industry”, “Liepaja's creative economy, societal changes from worker class to creative class to rebuild economy”, “Liepaja's creative policy, actions and place making process to develop creative economy, creative industries, creative professions and creative places. The result of the study will be recommendations for creative city economics policy implementation and creative place making process in local municipality.

Interplanetary magnetic field rotations followed from L1 to the ground : the response of the Earth's magnetosphere as seen by multi-spacecraft and ground-based observations

A study of the interaction of solar wind magnetic field rotations with the Earth's magnetosphere is performed. For this event there is, for the first time, a full coverage over the dayside magnetosphere with multiple (multi)spacecraft missions from dawn to dusk, combined with ground magnetometers, radar and an auroral camera, this gives a unique coverage of the response of the Earth's magnetosphere. After a long period of southward IMF Bz and high dynamic pressure of the solar wind, the Earth's magnetosphere is eroded and compressed and reacts quickly to the turning of the magnetic field. We use data from the solar wind monitors ACE and Wind and from magnetospheric missions Cluster, THEMIS, DoubleStar and Geotail to investigate the behaviour of the magnetic rotations as they move through the bow shock and magnetosheath. The response of the magnetosphere is investigated through ground magnetometers and auroral keograms. It is found that the solar wind magnetic field drapes over the magnetopause, while still co-moving with the plasma flow at the flanks. The magnetopause reacts quickly to IMF Bz changes, setting up field aligned currents, poleward moving aurorae and strong ionospheric convection. Timing of the structures between the solar wind, magnetosheath and the ground shows that the advection time of the structures, using the solar wind velocity, correlates well with the timing differences between the spacecraft. The reaction time of the magnetopause and the ionospheric current systems to changes in the magnetosheath Bz seem to be almost immediate, allowing for the advection of the structure measured by the spacecraft closest to the magnetopause
