    Magnetic resonance imaging of pelvic floor dysfunction - joint recommendations of the ESUR and ESGAR Pelvic Floor Working Group

    Objective: To develop recommendations that can be used as guidance for standardized approach regarding indications, patient preparation, sequences acquisition, interpretation and reporting of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for diagnosis and grading of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD). Methods: The technique included critical literature between 1993 and 2013 and expert consensus about MRI protocols by the pelvic floor-imaging working group of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) and the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) from one Egyptian and seven European institutions. Data collection and analysis were achieved in 5 consecutive steps. Eighty-two items were scored to be eligible for further analysis and scaling. Agreement of at least 80 % was defined as consensus finding. Results: Consensus was reached for 88 % of 82 items. Recommended reporting template should include two main sections for measurements and grading. The pubococcygeal line (PCL) is recommended as the reference line to measure pelvic organ prolapse. The recommended grading scheme is the “Rule of three” for Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), while a rectocele and ARJ descent each has its specific grading system. Conclusion: This literature review and expert consensus recommendations can be used as guidance for MR imaging and reporting of PFD. Key points: • These recommendations highlight the most important prerequisites to obtain a diagnostic PFD-MRI.• Static, dynamic and evacuation sequences should be generally performed for PFD evaluation.• The recommendations were constructed through consensus among 13 radiologists from 8 institutions. © 2016 The Author(s

    Dissemination of endometrial cancer MRI staging guidelines among young radiologists: an ESUR Junior Network survey

    Abstract Objectives Imaging guidelines could play an important role in the training of radiologists, but the extent of their adoption in residency programs is unclear. With this survey, the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) Junior Network aimed to assess the dissemination of the ESUR guidelines on endometrial cancer MRI staging (EC-ESUR guidelines) among young radiologists. Methods An online questionnaire targeted to last year radiology residents and radiologists in the first year of their career was designed. It included 24 questions, structured in 4 sections (i.e., background, general, acquisition protocol, interpretation, and reporting). The survey was active between April and May 2022, accepting answers worldwide. Answers were solicited with a social media campaign and with the support of national scientific societies. Subgroup analysis was performed based on variables such as subspecialty of interest and number of EC-ESUR guidelines consultations using the Wilcoxon rank sum test. Results In total, 118 participants completed the questionnaire, of which 94 (80%) were from Europe and 46 (39%) with a special interest in urogenital radiology. Overall, 68 (58%) stated that the guidelines were not part of their residency teaching programs while 32 (27%) had never even consulted the guidelines. Interest in urogenital radiology as a subspecialty and EC-ESUR guidelines consultations were associated with greater confidence in supervising scan acquisition, interpreting, and reporting EC MRI staging exams. Conclusion Four years after publication, the adoption of EC-ESUR guidelines in residency programs is heterogeneously low. Despite a possible selection bias, our findings indicate that active promotion of EC-ESUR guidelines is required. Key points • The adoption of ESUR guidelines on endometrial cancer in radiology residency programs is heterogeneous. • Almost one third of respondents stated they had never even consulted the guidelines. • Confidence toward guidelines was higher in those who were exposed to more endometrial cancer MRI staging scans. • Reading the guidelines was associated with a greater confidence in protocol acquisition, interpretation, and reporting. • Active efforts to promote their dissemination are required

    ESUR: A SYSTEM FOR EVENTS DETECTION IN SURVEILLANCE VIDEO

    In this paper, we present our eSur (Event detection system on SURveillance video) system, which is derived from TRECVID'09 surveillance tasks. Currently, eSur attempts to detect two categories of events: 1) single-actor events (i.e., PersonRuns and ElevatorNoEntry) irrespective of any interaction between individuals, and 2) pair-activity events (i. e., PeopleMeet, PeopleSplitUp, and Embrace) involves more than one individual. eSur consists of three major stages, i. e., preprocessing, event classification, and post-processing. The preprocessing involves view classification, background subtraction, head-shoulder detection, human body detection and object tracking. Event classification fuses One-vs.-All SVM and rule-based classifiers to identify single-actor and pair-activity events in an ensemble way. To reduce false alarms, we introduce prior knowledge into the post-processing, and in particular, we apply a so-called event merging process over TRECVID dataset. Extensive experiments have been performed over TRECVid'08 and '09 ED data corpus involving in total 144 hours surveillance video of London Gatwick airport. According to the TRECVid-ED formal evaluation, our prototype has yielded fairly promising results over TRECVid'09 dataset, with top Act.     Ultrasound evaluation of varicoceles: systematic literature review and rationale of the ESUR-SPIWG Guidelines and Recommendations

    Although often asymptomatic and detected incidentally, varicocele is a relatively common problem in patients who seek medical attention for infertility problems. Ultrasound (US) is the imaging modality of choice for evaluation, but there is no consensus on the diagnostic criteria, classification, and examination technique. In view of this uncertainty, the Scrotal and Penile Imaging Working Group of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR-SPIWG) undertook a systematic review of the available literature on this topic, to use as the basis for evidence-based guidelines and recommendations. This paper provides the results of the systematic review on which guidelines were constructed
