    Commented translation of the short-story L'irruzione, by Julio Cesar Monteiro Martins

    In this work, we present the translation into Portuguese of the short story L'irruzione, by Brazilian writer Julio Cesar Monteiro Martins. Established in Italy from the 1970s, the writer belongs to the generation of writers who participated in the boom of the Brazilian tale in the decades of 1960-70. Originally written in Italian, the text refers to the invasion of the Diaz School, followed by brutal repression by the Italian police during the G8 meeting in the city of Genoa in 2001, and reaffirms some of the writer's main literary characteristics: the political commitment to denounce injustice, the critical approach to violence, the bond with the so-called brutalism (BOSI, 1978) or fierce realism (CANDIDO, 1989), the emphasis on colloquial language.     A dissertação presente procura compreender o modo como se dá a construção das imagens da cidade de Buenos Aires em dois romances do escritor argentino Julio Cortázar. Partindo da hipótese de que tal imagem sofre modificações importantes com o autoexílio do autor em Paris, realizado no ano de 1951, ele busca realizar uma análise comparativa entre o romance El examen, escrito em 1950, quando ainda residia na Argentina, e Rayuela, publicado em 1963, ou seja, depois de mais de dez anos vivendo longe de seu país. A fim de empreender uma interpretação detalhada dos textos escolhidos, o trabalho se divide em dois grandes capítulos, um para cada romance em questão. O primeiro tem El examen como objeto e procura identificar como ele constrói sua representação da capital argentina ao mesmo tempo em que instaura uma alegoria do regime peronista, contemporâneo à sua escrita. O segundo elege Rayuela enquanto texto escrito no exílio e tem como objetivo central determinar a maneira nostálgica e memorialista mediante a qual ele representa a Buenos Aires deixada pelo autor. Finalmente, o trabalho coteja ambos os textos a fim de definir em quais momentos eles se aproximam e em quais se afastam ao erigirem, cada um a seu modo, suas particulares imagens da capital argentina.This dissertation aims to comprehend how the representations of Buenos Aires are constructed in two novels by the Argentinian writer Julio Cortázar. Assuming that there are important changes in such representation with the author\'s self-exile in Paris in the year of 1951, it attempts to conduct a comparative analysis between the novel El examen, written in 1950, when he was still living in Argentina, and Rayuela, published in 1963, that is, more than ten years after his definite departure from his country. In order to accomplish a detailed interpretation of the chosen texts, the dissertation is divided into two main chapters, one for each novel. The first has El examen as its object and it seeks to identify how the novel creates its representation of Buenos Aires while establishing an allegory of the Peronist government, contemporary to its writing. The second chapter elects Rayuela as a text written in exile and intends to determine how its representation of a left-behind Buenos Aires is characterized by a nostalgic and memorialistic approach. Lastly, it compares both novels in order to define the similarities and differences between their specific images of the Argentinian capital city

    Apresentar três lotes de correspondência inédita de João Guimarães Rosa, para responder ao problema de como os seus livros se recriaram em novos ambientes culturais, é trabalho que exige estabelecer o texto das cartas, redigir notas descritivas/ analíticas e notas explicativas. A recriação resulta da ação concertada de autor, editor e tradutor. A edição dos livros se mostra um negócio ou empreendimento de tipo especial, seja em razão da rede de relações pessoais e profissionais que envolve, ou do movimento de idéias, que simultaneamente capta e produz. Editar é operação que se dá no terreno das mediações entre dois planos, um que é do simbólico, outro da fabricação ou reprodução técnica. No trio de agentes, cada um de seu lugar e a seu modo busca o objeto livro que propicie a permanência da obra literária. Os lotes de correspondência, do arquivo que pertenceu ao escritor, agora ditos sub-séries, são: 1. com o editor francês Pierre Seghers (26/06/1957 a 10/10/1962), CE 1 a 15 (cx. 01), 17 documentos; 2. com o editor português António de Souza-Pinto (01/11/1960 a 27/01/1967), CE 16 a 64 (cx. 01), 56 documentos; 3. com o tradutor francês Jean-Jacques Villard (07/07/1961 a 25/04/1967), CT 1 a 47 (cx. 9), 48 documentos. Na cena das cartas aos três destinatários vê-se um autor que, além de cuidar da forma de publicação de seus textos literários no exterior, estende sua atenção ao paratexto, interno e externo ao volume. Entre essas atenções dispensadas por via epistolar despontam diferentes personas de João Guimarães Rosa.Presenting three batches of unpublished correspondence of João Guimarães Rosa in order to answer how his books were recreated in new cultural environments, is a task that demmands establishing the text of the letters and composing descriptive/analytical notes and explanatory notes. The recreation of the books results from the orchestrated action of author, publisher and translator. Publishing books reveals itself as a special kind of business or enterprise, either because of the personal and professional network involved or because of the movement of ideas simultaneously captured and generated. Publishing takes place in the grounds of mediation between two spaces, one symbolic and the other of manufacturing or technical reproduction. In the triad of agents -- author, publisher and translator -- each one of them in its way and from its place seeks the book that will engender permanence of the literary work. The batches of correspondence, from the file which belonged to the writer , now designated sub-series, are: 1. letters to the French publisher Pierre Seghers (06/26/1957 - 10/10/1962), CE 1 - 15 (box 01), 17 documents; 2. letters to the Portuguese publisher António de Souza-Pinto (11/01/1960 - 01/271967), CE 16 - 64 (box 01), 56 documents; 3. letters to the French translator Jean-Jacques Villard (07/07/1961 - 04/25/1967), CT 1 - 47 (box 9), 48 documents. In the letters sent to the three addressees, we see an author who, in addition to taking care of the form of publishing his literary texts abroad, extends his attention to the paratext located inside and outside the volume.     O universo das touradas espanholas representa um ponto essencial para compreensão do fascínio que a cultura hispânica despertou em grandes personalidades literárias do século passado. Com a intenção de refletir sobre condicionantes do processo tradutório, este trabalho analisa algumas mudanças textuais observadas entre original e tradução de trecho da obra Death in the Afternoon do escritor norte-americano Ernest Hemingway. A partir do conceito de shift (Popovic) e skopos (Vermeer) e influenciado pelo modelo de Polisistemas proposto por teóricos israelenses da área de tradução, buscou-se classificar as mudanças tradutórias observadas a posteriori como indicativas dos aspectos jornalísticos e literários da obra traduzida e das preferências estilísticas individuais do tradutor. Por fim, comparou-se os resultados obtidos com a tradução espanhola da mesma obra de modo a investigar a influência de procedimentos domesticadores sobre o estilo do autor original. _________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe world of Spanish bullfighting is an essential point to understand the fascination that the Hispanic culture awoke in great literary figures of the last century. With the purpose of reflecting on the constraints in the translation process, the present paper analyses some textual shifts observed between the source and the translated text of an excerpt from the book Death in the afternoon of the American author Ernest Hemingway. Based on the concept of shift (Popovic) and skopos (Vermeer) and influenced by the Polysystem model proposed by Israeli theoreticians, this study tried to classify the translation shifts observed a posteriori as indicative of journalistic and literary aspects of the translated book and stylistic preferences of the individual translator. Finally, this paper also compared the results with the Spanish translation of the same book in order to investigate the influence of domesticating procedures on the style of the original author

    Comúnmente, analizar la definición de autor es una tarea que en investigación jurídica se aborda desde la propiedad intelectual. En aquella, el autor se asemeja a un propietario de derechos exclusivos y excluyentes, con lo cual se fundamenta una noción cerrada. Pero otra forma –quizás más propicia– de análisis se encuentra en la crítica literaria, situada aquí en la disyunción derecho-literatura. Desde esta última se pretenden hacer evidentes algunos elementos interpretativos que den apertura a la noción unívoca que se halla en la propiedad intelectual. Por lo anterior el presente texto analizará la noción de autor que existe en el derecho de autor y en un sector de la crítica literaria con dos propósitos fundamentales: primero cuestionar el paradigma de autonomía del individuo creador/propietario, y, segundo, aportar criterios adicionales que permitan superar el significado unívoco de la definición de autor.Comumente, analisar a definição de autor, é uma tarefa que na pesquisa jurídica aborda-se desde a propriedade intelectual. But another and perhaps more appropriate approach is the one found in literary criticism, located here at the crossroads of law and literature. Based on this latter approach, the intention is to shed light on certain interpretative elements that broaden the one-track definition of author based on intellectual property. Consequently, this paper discusses the notion of authorship that exists in copyright law and in the area of literary criticism with two purposes: first, to criticize the paradigm of autonomy of the individual creator / owner and second, to provide additional criteria to overcome the univocal meaning of the definition of author

    Control for an active magnetic bearing machine with two hybrid electromagnet actuators

    This thesis work begins with the revision of state of the art about active magnetic bearings (AMB), the mathematical methods used to obtain geometric and physical parameters that will influence in the mechanical, electrical design and control system proposed by this prototype. The control system will activate the magnetic bearing to center its shaft, for which it is joined a variable load in order to study the best control performance under different load over the rotor proposed by requirements. When the rotor is not controlled in its own axis even though variable load, a position error will occur that will be corrected by the program of a control system that will center the shaft (rotor). For this design was evaluated generalized AMB models [2], [3], [4] to validate the best identification for this design, furthermore as a consequence to get the best performance for the control system as it was achieved by generalized models and it was evaluated the advantage of this AMB machine through “Two hybrid electromagnet actuators” and variable load fixed to its shaft. For this reason, it was necessary to test a simple AMB with only one electromagnet actuator [4], due to compare enhancement of hybrid characteristics for the electromagnet actuators, for which, also it was evaluated how many actuators could be necessary to join to an AMB system with the target to get the control. It means, in this work there are comparisons between a simple AMB, generalized AMB models and this design, owing to show the achievements of this design. In order to show experimental results in state of the art, it is known that Siemens presented Simotics Active Magnetic Bearings technology for wear free operation in large – machine applications, regulated magnetic fields hold the rotor in suspension precisely without oil or contact, to make this task, sensors capture the position of the shaft 16000 times per second and a regulator adjusts the magnetic field to keep the rotor hovering precisely in the bearing center [1]. By other side the author [4] describes the experimental results in which is proposed that at low speed the bearing parameters are mainly determined by the controller characteristics. While at high speed, the bearing parameters are not only related to the control rule but also related to the speed. This may be due to the influence of eddying effect. [4] Furthermore, by author [3], the algorithm to get fast responses in front of disturbances, the disadvantages of these algorithms are given by not enough memory space to execute them, due to computing time is short compared with rotor displacement response time, and it is defined that it could be possible to execute the control algorithm through a real-time operating system to obtain the desired response [3]. Finally, in reference [6] it is described about filtering every noise as additive white Gaussian noise, by a predictive filter, which is obtained by analyzing Least Mean Square (LMS) and feedback/feedforward algorithm
