Addendum to Eleftheriou and Michelacakis (2016)
Following the publication of Eleftheriou and Michelacakis (2016a), it was brought to our attention that the problem identified and corrected in Eleftheriou and Michelacakis (2016a) affects more papers than just the Beladi et al. (2008). Two such instances of published papers that we know of are the Beladi et al. (2010a) and Beladi et al. (2010b). The aim of this short addendum is to warn the reader against the validity of the results in these two papers and perhaps others using the same basic duopoly model as in Beladi et al. (2008). We look into the origins of the fallacy and make an announcement of corrected versions of some of the affected conclusions referring elsewhere for precise details
The universal covering map in o-minimal expansions of groups
In this paper we study locally definable manifolds and we prove: (i) the existence of universal locally definable covering maps; (ii) invariance results for locally definable covering maps, o-minimal fundamental groups and fundamental groupoids; (iii) monodromy equivalence for locally constant o-minimal sheaves; (iv) classification results for locally definable covering maps; (v) o-minimal Hurewicz and Seifert-van Kampen theorems.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Financiamento Base 2008 - ISFL/1/209. Uso di farmaci Antidepressivi Inbitori del Reuptake della Serotonina, di farmaci Antiepilettici e di Retinoidi in Gravidanza
After the catastrophic event of thalidome in Europe, early in the sixties, the FDA planed experimental protocols for the study of the reproduction toxicity of drugs and other substances.
In this work, we begun our route from the fecundation to the normal fetal development and the principles of developmental toxicology. We reported an outline of the pathogenesis of developmental toxicity and we mentioned the sources of the teratogenic evaluation: animal experiments and epidemiologic data.
Finally, we refer the follow-up interview; this interview consisted of a comprehensive list of questions with regard to maternal health during pregnancy, pregnancy outcome, delivery, and neonatal health
H αγορά της Κω: Το έργο της αποκατάστασης του νότιου τμήματος / Restoration and Enhancement of the south part of the ancient Agora of Kos
The unusually large number of architectural members brought to light during the excavation of the
property Κμ1293D was themain reason for implementing the programme of restoring and enhancing
the south part of the ancient agora of Kos. in accordance with the approved study, this programme
included on the one hand the restoration of part of the east colonnade of the monument,
and on the other indicating the outlines of the shops and the tholos, which were uncovered in the
excavated plot.
Specifically, thirty-six ancient stones, of the total of sixty-five, were used to restore two columns
to full height, with the corresponding parts of the crepis and of the cornice. one other column
stands to the height of the lowest drum. in the north shop, of which the foundations survive, conservation
work is in progress and the construction will be left as it is. in the south shop, of which even
the foundations have been destroyed, the walls are being restored to a height of one course, so as to
denote its outline. Corresponding completions are being made to the podium of the tholos
Investigating the use of simulation as a sex education intervention: the influence of perceived attractiveness on condom use intentions
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are ongoing concerns. The best method for preventing the transmission of these infections is the correct and consistent use of condoms. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the use of serious games and computer simulations for sexual health issues and, in particular, to explore the use of simulations to access and influence attitudes to sexual behaviour and risk. Judgements of attractiveness have previously been shown to influence the character of social interactions. This thesis sought to better understand the relationship between perceived attractiveness, perceived sexual health status and condom use intentions in both heterosexual male and heterosexual female populations. Both samples’ perceptions of attractiveness influenced their condom use intentions. In particular, the more attractive a partner was judged to be on average, the more likely participants would be willing to have sex with them and the less likely they were to intend to use a condom during sex. Therefore, this work suggests that such risk biases should be incorporated into sexual health education programmes and condom use interventions. Few studies have explored the use of computer games in interventions for increasing condom use by challenging the false sense of security associated with judging the presence of an STI based on attractiveness. The studies reported in this thesis extend the literature by investigating the potential of computer simulations in serious games for sex education. Engaging in the simulations and games developed for this research had an impact on participants’ confidence in evaluating sexual risks. The interventions’ efficacy was associated with individual propensity for sexual sensation seeking and sexual excitation seeking. Moreover, the findings of this research work indicate that computer simulations could be an effective sex education intervention, in reducing the barriers to condom use
Locally definable subgroups of semialgebraic groups
We prove the following instance of a conjecture stated in [P. E. Eleftheriou and Y. Peterzil, Definable quotients of locally definable groups, Selecta Math. (N.S.) 18(4) (2012) 885–903]. Let GG be an abelian semialgebraic group over a real closed field RR and let XX be a semialgebraic subset of GG. Then the group generated by XX contains a generic set and, if connected, it is divisible. More generally, the same result holds when XX is definable in any o-minimal expansion of RR which is elementarily equivalent to Ran,expℝan,exp. We observe that the above statement is equivalent to saying: there exists an mm such that Σmi=1(X−X)Σi=1m(X−X) is an approximate subgroup of GG.MTM2014-59178-P, MTM2017-82105-P and Grupos UCM 910444.Depto. de Álgebra, Geometría y TopologíaFac. de InformáticaTRUEpu
