Samuele R. Bacchiocchi
Samuele R. Bacchiocchi was a Seventh-day Adventist author and theologian, best known for his work on the Sabbath in Christianity, particularly in the historical work "From Sabbath to Sunday," based on his doctoral thesis from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Bacchiocchi defended the validity of the Feasts of the Lord, situated in Leviticus 23, he wrote two books on the subject. He was also known within the Seventh-day Adventist church for his opposition to rock and contemporary Christian music, jewelry, the celebration of Christmas and Easter, certain dress standards, and alcohol. Bacchiocchi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology from Newbold College in England, which was followed by a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity at Andrews University in Michigan, United States in 1964. Bacchiocchi moved with his wife Anna to Kuyera, Shashamane district, Ethiopia, where he lectured in Bible and history. Bacchiocchi taught in the religion department of Andrews University from 1974 until his retirement in 2000. He taught theology and church history. He regularly presented seminars worldwide, and wrote many self-published books and articles on biblical topics. He was married to Anna Gandin Bacchiocchi. They had three children
On the Identification of Interdependence and Contagion of Financial Crises
In this paper we propose a new framework for modeling heteroskedastic structural vector autoregressions. Although it is general enough to find potential applications in many empirical economic fields, it reveals to be well suited in the distinction between interdependence and contagion in the literature related to the transmission of financial crises. The identification of the structural parameters is obtained by exploiting the heteroskedasticity in the data, naturally arising during crisis periods. More precisely we provide identification conditions when both heteroskedasticity and traditional restrictions on the parameters are jointly considered. Finally, this methodology is used to investigate the relationships between sovereign bond yields for some highly indebted EU countries

International Knowledge Diffusion and Home-bias Effect: Do USPTO and EPO Patent Citations Tell the Same Story?*
This paper estimates the international diffusion of technical knowledge using patent citations. We control for self-citations and for procedural differences between patent offices using equivalent patents. We find that (1) there are clear biases in patent examination processes that generate citations in the two offices; (2) at the EPO there is a strong localization effect at the country level, and the size is comparable to that found at the USPTO; (3) technological fields have different properties of diffusion in the two patent offices that do not depend on a patent office bias; (4) using EPO data, the US is not the leading country in terms of citations made and received, as occurs at the USPTO. When economic theory is not enough... : identification through heteroskedasticity in a likelihood-based approach
Since the seminal contribution by Rigobon (2003, The Review of Economics and Statistics 85, 777-792) some authors have proposed identification conditions in heteroskedastic bivariate systems of equations. None of them, however, can be generalized lo larger systems and, especially for macroeconomic applications, this represents a strong limitation. This paper shows how the analysis of identification of simultaneous equations systems with different volatility regimes can be reconciled with the conventional likelihood-based setup. We propose a new specification that explicitly models the heteroskedasticity in the residuals, and study the conditions for identification when both heteroskedasticity and traditional restrictions on the parameters are jointly considered. A Full Information Maximum Likelihood (FIML) algorithm is discussed and the small sample performances of estimators and tests on the parameters are studied through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, this methodology is used to investigate the relationships between sovereign bond yields for some highly indebted EU countries
Identification through heteroskedasticity : a likelihood-based approach
In this paper we show how the analysis of identification of simultaneous systems of equations with different volatility regimes can be addressed in a conventional likelihood-based setup, generalizing previous works in different directions. We discuss general conditions for identification and one of the results shows that an adequate number of different levels of heteroskedasticity is sufficient to identify the parameters of the structural form without the inclusion of any kind of restriction. Modelling Italian inflation : 1970-2006
In this paper a model for the dynamics of inflation in Italy is proposed. It is shown
that both in the short and long run the inflation patterns can not be explained by a single
cause and that many theories contribute to determine the mechanism of price formation in
Italy. Changes in monetary and credit markets, along with substantial changes in many sectors of the Italian economy suggest to split the sample period into two sub-samples and modelling the dynamics of inflation differently for each of the periods. Moreover,
