Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Jual beli adalah salah satu bentuk interaksi sosial dalam kegiatan
ekonomi yang lazim dilakukan di masyarakat, termasuk dalam sektor
pertanian. Di Dusun Banyuwangi II, Desa Bumidaya, Kecamatan
Palas, Kabupaten Lampung Selatan, terdapat praktik jual beli sayuran
antara petani dengan pengepul yang menarik untuk diteliti. Dalam
praktik ini, pengepul terkadang menyampaikan harga secara lisan di
awal sebagai estimasi, namun harga tersebut berubah setelah sayuran
dijual dipasar. Bahkan tidak jarang, pengepul langsung mengambil
hasil panen tanpa menyebutkan harga terlebih dahulu, dan baru
memberikan pembayaran kepada petani setelah hasil penjualan di
pasar diketahui. Hal ini menimbulkan spekulasi adanya unsur
ketidakjelasan (gharar) dan dapat menimbulkan keraguan terhadap
adanya kerelaan (tarāḍīn) dari pihak petani.
Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan (field research)
dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data
dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam kepada lima
petani dan dua pengepul, serta dokumentasi. Data dianalisis secara
kualitatif melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan
kesimpulan.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan. Pertama, praktik
jual beli sayuran antara petani dengan pengepul di Dusun Banyuwangi
II dilakukan tanpa kesepakatan harga yang jelas saat akad. Harga baru
disampaikan kepada petani setelah hasil panen dijual ke pasar oleh
pengepul. Kondisi ini terjadi karena pengepul menetapkan harga
setelah memperhitungkan biaya operasional penjualan. Di sisi lain,
petani terpaksa menerima sistem tersebut akibat desakan kebutuhan
ekonomi, sifat sayuran yang mudah rusak, serta adanya kebiasaan di
wilayah tersebut yang sudah berlangsung lama. Kedua, dalam tinjauan
Hukum Ekonomi Syariah, praktik jual beli tersebut belum sepenuhnya
sesuai dengan prinsip jual beli dalam Hukum Ekonomi Syariah karena
mengandung unsur gharar akibat ketidakjelasan harga saat akad, dan
kerelaan petani yang bersifat semu. Meski demikian, praktik ini masih
dapat ditoleransi sebagai gharar yasīr (gharar ringan) karena
berlangsung dalam kondisi ḥājah (kebutuhan mendesak), seperti tidak
adanya alternatif pasar dan desakan kebutuhan ekonomi. ABSTRACT
Buying and selling is one form of social interaction in economic
activities that is commonly practiced in society, including in the
agricultural sector. In Dusun Banyuwangi II, Palas District, South
Lampung Regency, there is a practice of buying and selling vegetables
between farmers and middlemen that is interesting to study. In this
practice, middlemen sometimes convey an estimated price orally at
the beginning, but the price changes after the vegetables are sold in
the market. In some cases, the middlemen directly take the harvested
crops without mentioning the price beforehand, and only pay the
farmers after knowing the selling price in the market. This situation
raises speculation about the presence of uncertainty elements (gharar)
and causes doubts regarding the mutual consent (tarāḍīn) from the
farmers.
This research is a field research with a descriptive qualitative
approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through
observation, in-depth interviews with five farmers and two middlemen,
as well as documentation. The data were analyzed qualitatively
through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded as
follows. First, the practice of buying and selling vegetables between
farmers and middlemen in Dusun Banyuwangi II is carried out
without a clear price agreement at the time of contract (akad). The
price is only conveyed to the farmers after the harvested crops are
sold in the market by the middlemen. This practice occurs because
middlemen determine the price after calculating the operational costs
of the sale. On the other hand, farmers are forced to accept this
system due to urgent economic needs, the perishable nature of
vegetables, and customary practices that have long existed in the
area. Second, from the perspective of Islamic Economic Law, this
buying and selling practice is not fully in accordance with the
principles of sale and purchase in Islamic Economic Law because it
contains gharar due to the uncertainty of the price at the time of
contract and the farmers’ consent, which is considered insincere.
Nevertheless, this practice can still be tolerated as gharar yasir
(minor uncertainty) because it takes place in a ḥājah (urgent
necessity) condition, such as the absence of alternative markets
